New Photos From ‘The Great Gatsby’ Hits Posted: 14 Dec 2011 08:00 PM PST Over the past few months, one of the most oddly intriguing films working its way to the big screen has been Baz Luhrmann's upcoming take on the F. Scott Fitzgerald novel, The Great Gatsby. Featuring a top notch cast, the film has been a previously unseen commodity. However, thanks to Sassisam (via The Film Stage), that's now changed. We've finally gotten some official photos from the film, and you can see them below. [...] |
Occupy Wall Street Protesters Stage Mock Occupation Of ‘Law & Order: SVU’ Set Posted: 14 Dec 2011 07:00 PM PST Late last Thursday evening protesters from New York's Occupy Wall Street took their movement to an unexpected location: the set of an episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. The protesters staged a "Mockpuation" at the city's Foley Square where a replica of the movement's former camp in Zuccotti Park had been set up, including a kitchen and library exactly like the real deal once had. The set was being used as the backdrop for an upcoming episode of SVU partially inspired by the Occupy movement. You can watch a video of the protest here below [...] |
Posted: 14 Dec 2011 06:00 PM PST Blue Estate #8 Created by Viktor Kalvachev and Kosta Yanev Script by Andrew Osborne Art by Viktor Kalvachev, Nathan Fox, Toby Cypress, Andrew Robinson, Peter Nguyen Cover by Viktor Kalvachev Image Comics Release Date: December 14, 2011 Cover Price: $2.99 As a reader of Blue Estate from the start I have seen this series develop piece after piece of an intricate puzzle, and Blue Estate #8 is no exception. As the body count grows in Blue Estate, so do the stakes. Blue Estate #8 puts a price on the head of just about everyone in it and leaves you as the reader feeling that no one is safe. This issue has significantly less action than previous installments, but provides groundwork for the inevitable crime spree that is sure to come [...] |
‘Arthur and Lancelot’ Latest To Hit The Shelf Over At Legendary Pictures Posted: 14 Dec 2011 05:00 PM PST Apparently Legendary Pictures really can't get their act together. According to Deadline, just a day after they revealed that their upcoming film Paradise Lost would be shelved until further notice, Deadline reports that Arthur and Lancelot has also fallen to the same fate. The company paid $2 million to nab the rights to the script penned by David Dobkin, and already had the pair of Kit Harington and Joel Kinnaman attached to play. The film will follow the story of the iconic duo, and their relationship, but has now officially fallen off the radar. [...] |
Duo Lined Up For ‘Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2′ Posted: 14 Dec 2011 04:00 PM PST Apparently you can't do a film based in the universe of Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs without a directing duo behind the camera. Variety is reporting that the pair of Cody Cameron and Kris Pearn will be helming the upcoming Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2 for Sony Animation. The first film was directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who themselves were relatively new to the animation game. Cameron and Pearn both worked on the first film as head of story and a story artist, respectively, so they definitely have a knowledge of the universe they want to build here. [...] |
Comic Review: Samurai’s Blood #6 Posted: 14 Dec 2011 03:30 PM PST Samurai's Blood #6 Story by Owen Wiseman Art by Nam Kim, Matthew Dalton, Sakti Yuwono Cover by Jo Chen Image Comics Release Date: December 14, 2011 Cover Price: $2.99 Samurai's Blood comes to end this week as issue 6 hits stands and wraps up a series that has continually impressed me with each blood-soaked page. Creative team Owen Wiseman and Nam Kim have once again out done themselves with issue 6 of Samurai's Blood. The most disappointing aspect of Samurai's Blood is simply that it is ending. AKurosawa-style justice is dished out I can only marvel at the style and tone of this issue while mourning the end of an amazing 6 issue comic series [...] |
Blu-ray Deal: Buy ‘Jurassic Park Ultimate Trilogy’, Get $10 Credit Posted: 14 Dec 2011 03:00 PM PST Right now, Amazon is offering a $10 credit with the purchase of Jurassic Park Ultimate Trilogy on Blu-Ray. Jurassic Park Ultimate Trilogy contains all three Jurassic Park movies -- Jurassic Park, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, Jurassic Park III -- along with tons of bonus features including those new to this release like the six-part documentary Return to Jurassic Park. |
Watch Now: Sandstorm Chase Scene from ‘Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol’ Posted: 14 Dec 2011 02:05 PM PST A new clip from the upcoming Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol has been released. You can watch it here below. It's basically a chase scene, and those are a dime a dozen these days, but this one has an interesting hook. The scene involves Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) pursuing an unknown person on foot and in a car while a sandstorm rages. With his vision obscured by the storm Hunt has to rely on a tracking device to find his quarry, which adds a measure of suspense to the chase. I also like that Michael Giacchino, who scored the previous MI flick, is back on composer duty [...] |
The Fire Rises: A Review of ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ Prologue Posted: 14 Dec 2011 01:00 PM PST The last time I set foot in the Science Museum of Virginia's IMAX Dome theater was sixteen years ago. It was a laser light show set to the music of Pink Floyd. That was also the first time I can recall seeing anything on an IMAX screen outside of school field trips, but those were also memorable experiences to be sure. Last night I went with my friend Mark to see the much-talked-about prologue from next summer's The Dark Knight Rises, the final film in Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy. I managed to snag a pair of free passes to see it last Friday from the Operation Early Bird site that had been set up as part of the film's viral marketing campaign. Before that happened the news was that despite the presence of several impressive IMAX screens in my hometown, the prologue would not be screened anywhere in Richmond. The IMAX Dome at the Science Theater is said to be the largest movie screen in the state. Imagine my surprise when this amazing opportunity arose and I had the foresight to not pass it up [...] |
‘Borat’ Star Sacha Baron Cohen Channels Saddam Hussein In ‘The Dictator’ Trailer Posted: 14 Dec 2011 11:59 AM PST When we first heard about Borat and Bruno star Sacha Baron Cohen's upcoming project, The Dictator, it sounded like he would actually be playing infamous tyrant Saddam Hussein. We now know that Cohen is actually just parodying Middle Eastern dictators in general---perhaps even more Muammar Gaddafi than Saddam---but you can see the inspirations shining through. The movie is said to be based on a book written by Hussein titled Zabibah and the King, and promises to tell the "heroic story of a dictator who risked his life to ensure that democracy would never come to the country he so lovingly oppressed." The GoD List: Comics For December 13, 2011 Posted: 14 Dec 2011 10:12 AM PST Each and every week "Henchman24" MK2Fac3 and "Dr. McDavid" Henchman21 read a lot of comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. I mean, it is possible… theoretically. They look forward to some more than others, I mean, who doesn't? So, let's take a look into the depths of their pull lists, grab some comics, and we'll let YOU know what the top books to look forward to are for the week of December 14, 2011. Single issues and trades, they're all here. The collective "HenchFac3" attempts to bring you the knowledge of the latest and greatest comic books that are being released each and every week. Now, unfortunately, the situation does not always play out in the manner in which we have anticipated. Sometimes, we pick absolute flops. Sometimes we pick books that don't even ship that week. And sometimes, we pick the same comic every month. We're not theoretical physicists, and as much as MK2Fac3 wants you to believe that he's Batman, he's totally not. He cannot prepare for any and all eventualities. But more often than not, we pick some really good books. And while our track record does not garner us a perfect score, I think that if you pick up this week's books, you'll be more than impressed with our choices. For we are "The HenchFac3," and this, well this is The GoD List [...] |
‘The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’ To Open A Day Early Posted: 14 Dec 2011 08:01 AM PST Following the lifting of the embargo regarding early reviews, the buzz surrounding the upcoming David Fincher film, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, has been so good that apparently Sony wants to get it out to the public earlier than planned. Deadline reports that the studio will now release The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo on Tuesday, December 20, 2011, a day earlier than had been scheduled. Bowing at 7pm on the 20th, the film is set to make its public debut following some rather superb buzz [...] |
Comic Review: Rust: Visitor in the Field Posted: 14 Dec 2011 07:00 AM PST Rust: Visitor in the Field TPB Written by Royden Lepp Illustrated by Royden Lepp Archaia Entertainment Release Date: December 13, 2011 Cover Price: $24.95 Perhaps it speaks to the level of all ages comics on shelves currently, but I do not go out of my way to check out new kid friendly books that often. When it comes to all ages comic I have hit my limit, it seems like every time I pick up a new comic it somehow finds its way into my rotation. I do not have the time or the money to read every amazing all ages comic out there, so by reviewing Royden Lepp's Rust: Visitor in the Field I have taken a risk. It's a risk that I do not regret taking even though I will now be adding any Rust comic to my pull list. Royden Lepp's latest title was everything that I love about kid friendly comics wrapped into one beautifully illustrated trade paperback [...] |
