Blu-ray Review: The Three Colors Trilogy (Criterion Collection) Posted: 15 Dec 2011 07:32 PM PST The Three Colors Trilogy Blue, White, Red DVD | Blu-ray Directed by Krzysztof Kieslowski Starring Julie Delpy, Juliette Binoche, Irene Jacob The Criterion Collection Release date: November 15, 2011 Star Wars. Spider-Man. X-Men. When it comes to trilogies, the mind starts off thinking of the biggest of big summer tentpole blockbusters. However, when one must consider what is truly the greatest collection of interconnected narratives that cinema has to offer, this writer thinks the conversation starts and stops with something, a bit more minute. From the thinking man's auteur Krzysztof Kieslowski, Blue, White, and Red, better known as the Three Colors Trilogy, is simply the greatest threesome of films ever put to cellouloid. And the newly released Criterion Collection Blu-ray box set of this epic masterpiece is just the type of release a classic like this sucker needs, and deserves [...] |
2012 Golden Globe Awards Nominations Announced Posted: 15 Dec 2011 06:41 PM PST Nominations for the 69th annual Golden Globe Awards have been officially announced. Overall it's a pretty boring list---some good things, some bad things, and your typical awards season fare. The only real exciting nominations (for me, anyway) are for HBO shows Boardwalk Empire and Game of Thrones. You can check out the full list of nominees below and share your thoughts in the comments! Watch Now: President William Howard Taft Is Running For Reelection In ‘Taft 2012′ Posted: 15 Dec 2011 05:00 PM PST On January 17, 2012 Quirk Books and debut author Jason Heller of The A.V. Club will be giving readers a brand new look at one of America's 27th president, William Howard Taft, with Taft 2012. The novel is a "what if" kind of book that looks at the possibility of Taft falling asleep for 100 years and waking to a whole new world. The distinguished gentleman is transported into a brand new world that is rich with technology and rapid social changes. In Taft 2012, we see what happens when William Howard Taft continues his presidential campaign to become the next President of The United States of America in the face of a vastly different society [...] |
First Real Look At Daniel Day-Lewis In ‘Lincoln’ Posted: 15 Dec 2011 04:00 PM PST Coming a little while after the release of a seemingly candid shot of star Daniel Day-Lewis caught in the throes of eating a meal whilst wearing what appears to be a rather epic beard in preparation of his turn in Steven Spielberg's Lincoln, we finally have our first official look at what to expect from this hotly anticipated film. The Richmond Times-Dispatch has snagged a photo from the film's set, and I must say, he plays a rather convincing Honest Abe. [...] |
Poster For Ridley Scott’s ‘Prometheus’ Hits Posted: 15 Dec 2011 02:46 PM PST While we haven't seen much from this project, the promotional machine behind the upcoming Ridley Scott film, Prometheus, is about to start running. ComingSoon has the first poster for the upcoming film, slated to star Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender and Charlize Theron, and it's quite a beauty. Seemingly inspired by the posters for Scott's Alien and its subsequent sequels, of which this is considered a part of, the poster has a distinct sense of dread, telling the viewer that this won't be a fun sci-fi adventure. [...] |
New Trailer For ‘Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance’ Hits Posted: 15 Dec 2011 01:00 PM PST Talk about some busted buzz building. For all intents and purposes, the premiere of Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance at this year's Butt-Numb-A-Thon was supposed to get the geek oriented film in front of those who would almost blindly love it. However, it did anything but that. But now, in the face of all that, we get a new trailer for the film, which doesn't look as awful as those reviews would have one think. Watch the trailer here below [...] |
Watch Now: First Teaser Trailer for ‘The Expendables 2′ Posted: 15 Dec 2011 12:06 PM PST The first teaser trailer for Lionsgate's summer 2012 testosterone-fiesta The Expendables 2 has been released. You can watch the trailer and read the official plot synopsis here below. The trailer is little more than Bruce Willis' menacing Mr. Church (the character he played in the single scene he shared with Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger in the original) confronting Stallone's Barney Ross about a deal they made and how it's time to pay up, followed by a roll call of the movie's cast. Eleven actors, and not one neck between them [...] |
Listen Now: ‘The Best of Social Blend 2011′ Posted: 15 Dec 2011 09:59 AM PST The Social Blend podcast has released its regular year-end special, The Best of 2011. The episode is a collection of some of the memorable and funniest moments from shows through the year. 2011 was a bit of a challenging year for Social Blend. We'd traditionally followed content at Mixx.com for our show nucleus; but the beginning of the year saw the announcement they were closing down their classic site as they'd been acquired by UberMedia. From there, we created our own social news site, MixxingBowl.com; while the Mixx guys moved on to establish Chime.in. |
Could Netflix Be The Savior ‘Firefly’ Fans Have Been Waiting For? Posted: 15 Dec 2011 07:55 AM PST Before you get too excited, no, Netflix is not thinking about bringing Firefly back from the dead...not yet, at least. This is strictly speculative, but it also makes a hell of a lot of sense when you think about it. And fans will indeed think about it. Comic book (Push, The Highwaymen) and TV (Alphas) writer Marc Bernardin made the case on his Tumblr page, Phenomenaut Aerospace, that none other than Netflix should step up and become the savior that Firefly fans have been desperately waiting for. The reasoning is not without base, either. [...] |
