eBook Deal: Runaways Singer Cherie Currie’s ‘Neon Angel: A Memoir Of A Runaway’ Posted: 23 Dec 2011 12:25 AM PST Right now, you can get the Kindle version of Neon Angel: A Memoir of a Runaway, The Runaways singer Cherie Currie's autobiography, for only $2.99. I've read this book MANY times and have several copies of it (and multiple editions as well). If you're a fan of The Runaways, this is a must-read. Also, Neon Angel is what The Runaways movie starting Kirsten Stewart (as Joan Jett) and Dakota Fanning (as Currie) was based on. In the book, Currie talks about her upbringing and then goes into detail about her time with The Runaways, which was an all-girl teenage rock band in the 1970s and if you saw the movie, you see just how hard these young girls had it and what they did for rock and roll. Currie's original version of the autobiography had been out of print since the 1990s, but thanks to It Books, the book is not only back in print, but has also been improved upon. More than worth 3 bucks, so grab this right away, the sale ends at the end of the day, Friday, December 23, 2011. If you'd like a physical copy of the book, the Hardcover is $16.49, while the paperback is $10.87 [...] |

Book Review: One Buck Horror Anthology: Volume 4 Posted: 22 Dec 2011 07:00 PM PST One Buck Horror Anthology: Vol. 4 Kindle Edited by Christopher Hawkins, Kris M. Hawkins Written By Erath Juarez, Mark Onspaugh, Nick A. Zaino III, M.R. Jordan, Kristine Ong Muslim Coronis Publishing Release date: December 2, 2011 Price: $0.99 The latest volume from One Buck Horror brings us another treasure trove of quick and dark treats from authors around the globe. The One Buck Anthologies are new to me, so I was kind of shocked that it was such a tiny tome (where the hell have I been?). While I enjoyed all five stories, I'd be willing to pay a whole five bucks to read longer, better developed short stories. Then again, I am the Book Slave and I live to read; you, dear readers, may appreciate the fact that you can finish a whole One Buck story before your laptop can finish booting, and the whole eBook in between ordering and receiving your tall mocha-latte-chino-thingy. My descriptions for the stories in One Buck Horror Anthology: Volume 4 are intentionally brief and worth about two cents. Buy the book; it's worth the meager investment of both time and money -- only 99 cents -- to discover promising new authors [...] |
David Tennant Reads Vampire Stories For BBC 4′s ‘A Night With A Vampire 2′ Posted: 22 Dec 2011 06:00 PM PST We all know David Tennant from his time as the tenth Doctor on the long-running television series Doctor Who, but recently the actor took on a much different role - that of vampire hunter Peter Vincent in the 2011 remake of Fright Night (recently released on DVD and Blu-ray). But his turn in Fright Night wasn't his only foray into the world of vampires. Last year Tennant hosted "A Night with a Vampire" audio series for BBC Radio 4's Book at Bedtime. Recently, the actor returned for "A Night with a Vampire 2," where he read five vampire-themed stories, like Edith Wharton's Bewitched and Richard Matheson's Drink My Blood [...] |

Spoiler Talk: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011) Posted: 22 Dec 2011 04:00 PM PST You'd think that after getting prison-fisted out of a much-deserved Best Director Oscar and with The Social Network losing Best Picture to that stuffy British Costume drama where Colin Firth went F-f-f-full retard, Fight Club and Seven director David Fincher would respond by making some banal and transparent piece of Oscar bait involving...the Holocaust...illiteracy...Southern black maids in the 50s...getting raped in a bar and having Kelly McGillis defend you...the Holocaust...slavery, and INSERT YOUR OWN AWARD-MAGNET TOPIC ________ and just call it For Your Consideration. But Fincher's remake of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is as far away from December Oscarbation (poor kitty!) as you can get, unless there's an award for Best Sodomy. Tattoo is one of the best thrillers of the year and more than holds its own with (and in some ways trumps) the acclaimed Swedish original. I can't say how faithful they are to the Steig Larsson books as I've never read them [...] |
Comic Review: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #5 Posted: 22 Dec 2011 03:00 PM PST Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #5 Written by Kevin Eastman & Tom Waltz Script by Tom Waltz Art by Dan Duncan (New York City), Mateus Santoouco (Feudal Japan) Colors by Ronda Pattinson Letters by Shawn Lee Covers by Mateus Santoouco, Dan Duncan, Kevin Eastman IDW Publishing Release Date: December 21, 2011 Cover Price: $3.99 Man, it's a great time to be a Turtle fan! Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #5 is probably my favorite issue of the series so far. It's got everything! Tom Waltz lays out a killer script based on a story by himself and Turtles co-creator, Kevin Eastman. Just when we think we know where the story is going, they both pull the rug out from under us, and the payoff is one that fans have been waiting for and wondering about since the first issue [...] |
Marvel To Adapt Popular Graphic Novels Like ‘Civil War’ Into Prose Books Posted: 22 Dec 2011 02:00 PM PST Starting June 2012 Marvel Comics will be adapting some of its most "popular" stories into prose novels. That's right, no pretty pictures. The first book adapted by author Stuart Moore (Wolverine) will be based on the epic story Civil War. In case you don't remember that story or you're trying to block it from your memory, Marvel graciously provided a brief synopsis: "In the wake of a tragedy, Capitol Hill proposes the Superhuman Registration Act, requiring all costumed heroes to unmask themselves before the government. Divided, the nation's greatest champions must each decide how to react…" [...] |

Music Review: Motley Crue – Greatest Hits Posted: 22 Dec 2011 12:00 PM PST Motley Crue Greatest Hits U.S.: CD | MP3 UK: CD | MP3 Eleven Seven Music Release date: December 5, 2011 (UK) This year marked 30 years since the release of Motley Crue's debut album Too Fast For Love. After that record hit in 1981 the years have been packed with tragedy and infamy (with a sex tape or two thrown in) for the Crue. But in that time they, somehow, continued to make great music, most of which is compiled on this Motley Crue: Greatest Hits package. The tracks are in chronological order beginning with the untamed "Too Fast For Love" to the more production heavy efforts of the fabulous "Dr. Feelgood" and "Home Sweet Home." [...] |
Watch This Far Superior Fan Edit Of ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’ Trailer Posted: 22 Dec 2011 10:42 AM PST Earlier this week, the first trailer for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, the first of director Peter Jackson's Hobbit films, was released. To say that fans were excited is an understatement. But filmmaker Samuel Smith was disappointed with the editing and the style of the trailer, so he reworked it, and in my opinion, his creation is far superior to the official version. Watch the video here below [...] |
Watch Now: Trailer For Ridley Scott’s ‘Prometheus’ Posted: 22 Dec 2011 09:53 AM PST As far as movie trailers go, this week has been about as good as it gets and quite fitting for the Christmas holiday that is fast approaching. It began with The Dark Knight Rises (then Wrath of the Titans, for some), followed by The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, and now, to cap it all off, the first trailer for Ridley Scott's highly anticipated Alien prequel, Prometheus. You can check out the trailer for Prometheus by clicking on over to the other side now! [...] |
