Spock Wishes Us All A Logical New Year

Watch Now: A Special Christmas Greeting From Terry Gilliam

Terry Gilliam Christmas Card

Christmas is upon us and we here at Geeks at Doom are celebrating the occasion as only we know how: by digging up holiday-themed oddities for your employment.

Today we have an extra special treat for you. Back in 1968 Terry Gilliam was working as an animator for the British children's series Do Not Adjust Your Set, which starred several of his fellow future members of Monty Python, when he produced this 3-minute-long ode to the classic imagery and rituals we commonly associate, and that some of us deep down really want to rip to shreds and defile the remains. You can watch "Christmas Card" here below [...]

Video: The Walt Disney World Resort’s Gingerbread Holiday Displays

Posted: 25 Dec 2011 03:00 PM PST

Gingerbread

One of my places to see the holiday sights is at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. Not only are the decorations through the theme parks spectacular, but so are the displays through the entire Resort (meaning, the many hotels located on Disney propriety inside the "World").

Each resort really does it up nicely, and typically has a giant gingerbread and chocolate display. And if there's one way to get my attention, it's to create something cool out of gingerbread and/or chocolate.

JeffLangeDVD has posted a bunch of videos to YouTube of the edible holiday displays at the Disney World Resort, like the Gingerbread Carousel at Disney's Beach Club that actually spins! [...]

R2

May you find the droids you're looking for...

Etsy shop LovesickRobotStudios created this holiday greeting card featuring Star Wars droid R2-D2. And while the sentiment is that you find the droids you're looking for, I think we can all be thankful that the Empire didn't find the droids they were looking for! [...]

Christmas 2011 Sponsorship: The Adoptable Animals At Best Friends Animal Society

Posted: 25 Dec 2011 10:00 AM PST

BFAS

For the holidays, we here at Geeks of Doom like to sponsor an animal in need, like Mr. Kitty the Bat for Halloween and Elizabeth the Turkey the Turkey for Thanksgiving.

This year for the Christmas season, in lieu of sponsoring one animal, we decided to make a general donation to the Best Friends Animal Society, which runs an animal-adoption shelter and also has a wonderful animal sanctuary for those animals who are not eligible for adoption. With so many homeless pets out there in need of loving families, we thought we'd help shine a light on some of the animals who can be adopted, like Buddy, who most likely used to be a big-time stuntman in Los Angeles, and Georgia, one of the pit bulls found living on the property of Michael Vick.

Watch the adorable video here below of some of the animals at BFAS dressed up in their holiday best [...]

Doctor Who Christmas Special

Whovians and Sci-Fi Geeks, don't forget, December 25 is not only the day Santa jams his chubby butt down the chimney: it's also the day when Doctor Who returns for the annual Christmas Special. This year's episode is entitled The Doctor, The Widow, And The Wardrobe, a seasonal tale inspired by the Narnia series.

Matt Smith returns in his role as the Eleventh Doctor, and is joined by an excellent cast, including Claire Skinner and Bill Bailey, in a story written by showrunner Steven Moffat. A prequel for the episode has been released by the BBC, which you can see along with the trailer at the end of this post [...]
