Child Thief Book Cover

The Child Thief
By Brom
Paperback | Kindle
HarperCollins Voyager
Release date: August 27, 2010

The prologue to artist Brom's novel The Child Thief begins with a girl who is afraid of an abusive stepfather, which leads into the appearance of Peter Pan, who has come to "save" this child from the certain doom she faced at the hands of the malevolent step-parent. But in Brom's world, things are not as clear cut as they seem. When people grow up, they often start to see the odd perversity in the idea that a teenage boy who is perpetually young can bring little boys to an island with no grown-ups (and seemingly no problems), which ties into the whole Michael Jackson and Neverland Ranch issues. But in this version of the tale, Peter Pan is about as similar to his Disney incarnation as Robin Williams is to Justin Bieber [...]

RIP: Barry Clayton, Voice Of Iron Maiden’s ‘The Number Of The Beast’ Intro

Posted: 02 Jan 2012 04:50 PM PST

Iron Maiden

Woe to You Oh Earth and Sea...

Every metalhead in the world is familiar with that first line from the spoken-word introduction to the Iron Maiden song "The Number Of The Beast." The man who lent his voice to that iconic intro, Barry Clayton, has died, according to the Islington Tribute. He was 80.

For the title track off their 1982 album, Number of the Beast, Iron Maiden had wanted horror icon Vincent Price to recite the intro for the song, but his fee turned out to be too high. That's when the band turned to Clayton, a deep-voiced actor who read ghost stories at Capital Radio, to do the 25-second recitation taken from the Bible's Book of Revelation [...]

Shaun of the Dead

Ah, Lego. Is there anything these colorful plastic blocks of wonderment can't do?

Apparently not. Someone who goes by the name of Yatkuu enjoys making Lego sets based on numerous inspirations, including the great films of our time. So of course they got the bright idea to create a Lego set based on Shaun of the Dead, the classic British horror-comedy that launched the careers of its stars Simon Pegg and Nick Frost and director Edgar Wright, who also co-wrote the film with Pegg.

You can check out pictures of Yaktuu's Shaun-inspired Lego set here below [...]

In Mark Waid's Irredeemable, the worlds greatest superhero, a man of unflappable courage and strength, undergoes such a change after reaching his breaking point.

For those who have not yet had the chance to dive into Waid's fantastic series, consider this: What would you do if the most powerful being on Earth was hunting you down? Where would you run to when he can hear your heart's specific beat all around the globe? [...]

Henry Rollins’ Awesome Response To ‘Henry and Glenn Forever’ Comic

Posted: 02 Jan 2012 09:05 AM PST

Henry and Glenn Forever

If Henry and Glenn Forever isn't on your radar, it really should be. It's an indie comic that imagines Misfits/Danzig frontman Glenn Danzig and Black Flag's Henry Rollins in a committed, loving relationship. And if you know anything about these two muscle-bulging macho metal icons, you'll how humorous this scenario is.

The creators of Henry and Glenn Forever -- Tom Neely, Scot Nobles, and Gin Stevens of the art collective Igloo Tornado, posted a comic strip of what they say is the "mostly true" reaction by Danzig to the comic.

But what does Henry Rollins think of it? [...]

Bob Anderson, one of the world's top sword masters and fencing choreographer for such movies as Lord of the Rings, Highlander, Star Wars, Pirates of the Caribbean, and The Princess Bride, has died, according to TheOneRing. He was 89.

Anderson, who was born on September 15, 1922 in Hampshire, England, taught many actors fencing techniques and was a stunt double for David Prowse's Darth Vader in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.
