‘Hugo’ Scribe John Logan Penning ‘Jersey Boys’ Adaptation Posted: 11 Jan 2012 08:00 PM PST As an Oscar nomination likely looms for this scribe of Martin Scorsese's Hugo, John Logan has seen demand for his work sky rocket. Variety reveals that the writer (who is behind the upcoming Bond film, Skyfall) has been tapped by GK Films to pen their take on the beloved Broadway hit, Jersey Boys [...] |
Alexander Payne Close To Signing His Lead For ‘Nebraska,’ Actor Just Waiting To See The Script Posted: 11 Jan 2012 07:00 PM PST As his latest film, The Descendants, continues down its much deserved, award-laden path to likely Oscar gold, Alexander Payne isn't resting on his laurels, as he already has an actor in tow for his next film, Nebraska. Earlier, it was revealed that the director was looking at a variety of leads for the film, ranging from Gene Hackman to Robert Forster. However, in an interview with ComingSoon, the director revealed that he can't tell us who will star in Nebraska at this moment "because I don't even think the actor has received the script yet, but it's in the process right now." ‘Bruce Almighty’ Sequel Gets Writing Duo Posted: 11 Jan 2012 06:00 PM PST Yup, apparently the world has truly done away with anything remotely resembling an original idea. Variety is reporting that the pair of Jarrad Paul and Andrew Mogel (the same pair behind films like Hot Tub Time Machine) have been tapped by Universal to pen the script for a new sequel in the Bruce Almighty franchise. With the hopes of star Jim Carrey being rather high, it appears as though this will indeed be a direct sequel to Bruce and not the awful Evan Almighty, so while it doesn't sound too interesting, there is definitely that [...] |
Frank Darabont Heads To TNT For ‘L.A. Noir’ Posted: 11 Jan 2012 05:00 PM PST Having left The Walking Dead, it appears as though Frank Darabont has some free time on his hands. Deadline is reporting that Darabont has earned a pilot order at TNT for his crime series, L.A. Noir. Not based on the popular video game, the show will be based on the novel of the same name, that follows the story of LA Police Chief William Parker, and his long battle with crime lord and iconic mobster Mickey Cohen. Darabont will helm the pilot and will produce as well [...] |
Posted: 11 Jan 2012 04:00 PM PST The Strain #2 Story by Guillermo Del Toro and Chuck Hogan Script by David Lapham Art by Mike Huddleston Colors by Dan Jackson Letters by Clem Robins Cover by Mike Huddleston Dark Horse Comics Release Date: January 11, 2012 Cover Price: $3.50 "They have always been here. Vampires. In secret and in darkness. Waiting." The Strain #2 keeps the story rolling and manages to hold your attention for the duration of the read. While it does seem to drop a lot of the depth the book had, it doesn't sacrifice any of the major parts. The story picks up right after the last issue with the three survivors in the hospital receiving treatment while the authorities are baffled by the seemingly unknown cause of death of the rest of the flight [...] |
Rob Marshall Heading ‘Into The Woods’ Posted: 11 Jan 2012 03:00 PM PST As the movie musical continues to make its triumphant return, the genre has yet to truly find an instant classic to officially make it a viable and critically acclaimed genre, once again. Films like Hairspray and Nine are definitely fine/mediocre pieces, but not since Moulin Rouge! and Dreamgirls has a musical, on the big screen, been fraught with huge critical acclaim. But that's not without the continual pushing of one Rob Marshall [...] |
Comic Review: Star Wars: Legacy, Vol. 11: War Posted: 11 Jan 2012 12:30 PM PST Star Wars: Legacy, Vol. 11: War Written by John Ostrander and Jan Duursema Pencils by Jan Duursema Inks by Dan Parsons Colors by Brad Anderson Cover Art by Jan Duursema Dark Horse Comics Release Date: January 11, 2012 Cover Price: $19.99 When I found out that the Star Wars Legacy series was coming to an ending, I was not amused. I had fallen in love with the series, and wished it would continue, but all good things – actually, in fact, all the best things, must come to an end; or in this case, a conclusion. The Legacy series had everything against it in the beginning – a Skywalker tale set over a century after Return of the Jedi seemed (to many, including myself) a tacky, desperate move by Dark Horse. But something very odd happened: It worked [...] |
Scorsese’s ‘Goodfellas’ Heading To The Small Screen At AMC Posted: 11 Jan 2012 11:00 AM PST When it comes to the gangster film, very few pieces are as brilliant or influential as Martin Scorsese's Goodfellas. And now, it's coming to the current king of television, AMC. Deadline is reporting that the film will now be turned into a TV series on AMC, with writer Nicholas Pileggi and producer Irwin Winkler back aboard the project. Based on a novel entitled Wiseguy, the show will, like the movie, follow the "rise and fall of the Lucchese crime family associate Henry Hill, and his friends from 1955 to 1980." [...] |
Comic Review: Cobra Annual 2012: Origin Of Cobra Commander Posted: 11 Jan 2012 10:00 AM PST Cobra Annual 2012: Origin Of Cobra Commander Written by Chuck Dixon Art by S L Gallant Inks by Gary Erskine Colors by J Brown Letters by Neil Uyetake Covers by menton3 and Robert Atkins IDW Publishing Release Date: January 11, 2012 Cover Price: $7.99 I was very nervous about reading Cobra Annual 2012. Wasn't looking forward to it at all. I'm a big fan of non-origin origins. I liked that in the Marvel Comics' G.I. Joe series, all you knew about Cobra Commander was that at some point in his life, he was a used car salesman who went off the deep end. Another great non-origin was that of He-Man. All we needed to know about him, he told us in the cartoon's opening. In the back of my mind, I was really worried that the new Cobra Commander would be a tortured soul who's mother never loved him, his father beat him, and on and on [...] |
The GoD List: Comics For January 11, 2012 Posted: 11 Jan 2012 09:09 AM PST Each and every week "I'm on a Boat" MK2Fac3 and "Like a Boss" Henchman21 read a lot of comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. I mean, it is possible… theoretically. They look forward to some more than others, I mean, who doesn't? So, let's take a look into the depths of their pull lists, grab some comics, and we'll let YOU know what the top books to look forward to are for the week of January 11, 2012. Single issues and trades, they're all here. Ahoy, there mateys. Are you ready, kids? I can't hear you. Okay, now I can here you. This week, Captain MK2Fac3 is too busy skippering the USS Rough Service, but he sent me a message in a bottle with his picks for the week. Meanwhile, I'm stuck on a deserted island, and I have figured out why the Professor had such a problem fixing the boat when the only materials at hand were coconuts, palm fronds, and a collection of hicks, bimbos, non-functional alcoholics, and a crew that got their license from the Nebraska School of Oceanography. I was going to send this week's list in by Aldis lamp, but it turns out blinking lights do not translate well to the internet and my lawyers told me there was a risk of seizures, so I strapped myself to a couple of sea turtles and found my way back to the mainland. Anyway, enough talk of that cruel mistress of the sea; let's get to the books [...] |
