Posted: 16 Jan 2012 08:58 PM PST Monocyte #2 Created by Menton3 and Kasra Ghanbari Written by Menton3 and Kasra Ghanbari Art by Menton3 IDW Publishing Release Date: December 28, 2011 Cover Price: $3.99 It's not often that a comic book demands my attention. Gorgeous art and dynamic narrative often grab my attention, but rarely demand it. Monocyte #2 forced me to examine every panel and page. If my attention wandered for even a moment the next page of Monocyte #2 was foreign to me. The creative team behind this series has built a completely immersive experience with issue #2. This is not a comic for someone looking to kill 15 minutes. This is a comic that requires your undivided attention from start to finish. Of course you could understand that base story on cursory glance. But just by glancing you would be missing the subtle injection of character development through narrative. Monocyte #2 elevates itself above being just a comic. Monocyte #2 is poetry in panels [...] |
Batman Makes The Cover Of EW, Plus 3 New Images From ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ Posted: 16 Jan 2012 07:38 PM PST The Dark Knight Rises, Christopher Nolan's fond farewell to the good people of Gotham City (that's budgeted at $250 million), is without a doubt the movie event of 2012. Therefore who else would grace the cover of Entertainment Weekly's 2012 Preview issue but the Dark Knight himself, played by franchise star Christian Bale, in all his caped-and-cowled splendor? You can check out the EW cover along with three Dark Knight Rises stills featured in the issue here below. [...] |
Tim Burton Chats ‘Beetlejuice 2′ Status Posted: 16 Jan 2012 07:00 PM PST Beetlejuice 2 hasn't yet been greenlighted by anyone, and while some may be intrigued by the prospect (I won't lie, I'm pretty curious) many folks probably don't ever want to see it happen. Nevertheless, those involved with the movie seem to be high on the idea of doing a follow-up. Back in June of 2010, it was revealed that both Geena Davis and Michael Keaton would be happy to return to the roles they played in the 1988 original, and now the man behind said original, Tim Burton, is also talking about the possibility of seeing a sequel happen. Jordi Molla Gearing Up To Play The Villain in ‘Riddick’ Posted: 16 Jan 2012 02:00 PM PST Despite some recent financial headaches that halted filming for two months, the production of the upcoming Riddick, which will bring Vin Diesel back to the star-making role he first played in the 2000 sci-fi thriller Pitch Black, is moving full-speed ahead. The David Twohy-directed sequel has just added a new player to its growing cast: according to Variety, Jordi Molla, the Spanish actor who has played outsized heavies in big-budget action movies such as Knight and Day and Bad Boys II, is currently in negotiations to play the role of "Santana, a mercenary who heads up an eight-man crew tasked with finding and killing Riddick." Watch Now: ‘Wall-E’ Meets Ridley Scott in ‘WALL-ETHEUS’ Posted: 16 Jan 2012 01:00 PM PST You may not know the name Brad Hansen, but you should. Hansen is the creator of the Lion King/Dark Knight Rises mash-up trailer The Lion King Rises that premiered last week (watch it here). The video currently has over one million hits and rising every day. By popular demand Hansen has taken the other most notable movie trailer to premiere in recent weeks, Ridley Scott's upcoming Alien spiritual prequel Prometheus, and merged it with a sweet-natured Pixar flick from several years ago. The result is WALL-ETHEUS! [...] |
‘Chronicle’ Director Josh Trank Top Pick To Reboot ‘Fantastic Four’ Posted: 16 Jan 2012 12:00 PM PST If you've not yet heard about Chronicle, it's because it's a movie that has been flying under the radar a bit and only recently have TV spots started showing up more and more often. The movie's trailer first showed up when Paranormal Activity 3 was released, and it too is presented as "found footage" of three friends who obtain superpowers and go through the ups and downs having such great new abilities. Twentieth Century Fox is very big on Chronicle, and hopes it will do great things at the box office. So much so that sources close to the studio say that the movie's director, Josh Trank, is their current top choice to take on rebooting their more tradition superhero franchise, Marvel's Fantastic Four. [...] |

‘Labyrinth’ Goblin King Jareth Getting His Own Prequel Graphic Novel Posted: 16 Jan 2012 10:00 AM PST It's been a quarter of a century since Jim Henson's ambitious fantasy film Labyrinth first premiered to a lackluster reception from audiences. In the years since its release the movie has built up a cult following and been widely hailed as one of the best children's fantasy films of the 1980s, thanks in no small part to the exceptional puppet work and the performances of a young Jennifer Connelly and British glam rock superstar David Bowie as the Labyrinth's villainous Jareth, the Goblin King. Comics publisher Archaia has announced that it will be producing a graphic novel prequel to Labyrinth that will focus entirely on the story of the Goblin King. According to Archaia editor-in-chief Stephen Christy, "It's the story of how Jareth is brought into the Labyrinth for the first time. So, it doesn't deal with Sarah, it doesn't deal with Toby or anything like that." [...] |

The creative team shake up comes in the wake of DC's announcement of six ongoing series being canceled, one of which, Hawk and Dove, was Liefeld's only current presence in the new DC universe.
