I have fantastic memories of my mom and dad taking me to see that movie and I remember reading the comic adaptation until the cover fell off. While I was expecting to revisit that world and thoroughly enjoy it, which I did, but on a totally different level. The only problem -- I haven't seen The Dark Crystal film since 1982 [...] |

Comic Review: Lord of the Jungle #1 Posted: 17 Jan 2012 02:00 PM PST Lord of the Jungle #1 Written by Arvid Nelson Illustrated by Roberto Castro Lettered by Simon Bowland Colored by Alex Guimaraes Covers by Alex Ross, Ryan Sook, Paul Renaud, and Lucio Parrillo Dynamite Entertainment Release Date: January 18, 2012 Cover Price: $1.00 Just about everyone knows the basic premise behind the story of Tarzan. For some reason, that's NOT the loincloth, he's always been one of my favorite characters since I was a kid. That's why, when I got the chance to review Lord of the Jungle #1, I jumped at it. Writer Arvid Nelson had a pretty humongous task ahead of him. Since the 1940s pretty much any incarnation in any entertainment medium of the Tarzan character has been a bust. Thankfully, Nelson took what everyone knew about the character, chose the best parts, and wrote a comic [...] |

Comic Review: Steed And Mrs. Peel #1 Posted: 17 Jan 2012 11:00 AM PST Steed And Mrs. Peel #1 Written by Grant Morrison Art by Ian Gibson Lettering by Ellie De Ville Covers by Ian Gibson Boom! Studios Release Date: January 18, 2012 Cover Price: $3.99 I've never seen an episode of The Avengers TV show which this comic is based on, and I've never been a huge Grant Morrison fan. So, why did I ask to review Steed And Mrs. Peel #1? For something different. Thankfully, although I was a little confused at times, I was very pleasantly surprised. Nothing really needs to be said about writer Grant Morrison, so I'm not going to. As I stated before, I'm not at all familiar with The Avengers television series, but I really don't think that it hurt my enjoyment of the book at all. Granted, there were a few things that I didn't appreciate like, somebody who had been a fan of the TV show, but all in all, it's a great mystery/spy story [...] |
