DVD Review: Belle De Jour [The Criterion Collection]

Belle De Jour

Belle De Jour
DVD | Blu-ray
Directed by Luis Bunuel
Starring Catherine Deneuve, Michel Piccoli, Genevieve Page
The Criterion Collection
Release date: January 17, 2012

When digging through the history of film, very few filmmakers had quite the career of one Luis Bunuel. The surrealist icon first started in the short film medium (giving the world classics like Un Chien Andalou) only to get behind some of the most intriguing pictures of his generation, none of the cult auteur's canon may be quite as beloved as his fantastical Belle De Jour.

Featuring Bunuel's patented themes of human desire and pleasure, Belle feels like the physical manifestation of each and every single aspect of the surrealist belief structure, all in the guise of one of the most beautiful and complex pieces of narrative from one of film's most interesting directors [...]

Uncanny X-Men #11 Banner

We recently posted an article here covering the major tie-ins to Marvel's upcoming summer event simply titled Marvel vs. X-Men. Just when we thought Marvel had given all of the titles to expect they release cover art for yet another title: Uncanny X-Men #11!

This cover art, featuring the Avengers vs. X-Men banner, hints at a brawl between Red Hulk and Colossus, which could be pretty entertaining. Uncanny X-Men currently comes to us from the creative team of Kieron Gillen and Greg Land [...]

Chinese Year Of The Dragon

Today marks the beginning of Chinese New Year, the 15-day celebration in Asian cultures filled with gift-giving, family reunions, festivals, fireworks, and wishes of good luck and prosperity in the coming year.

In honor of 2012 being the Year Of The Dragon, author Neil Gaiman sent out a message to his Chinese friends with a drawing of what he says is a "wobbly dragon."

I just drew a wobbly dragon for my Chinese friends. He's based on a picture I saw of an ancient dragon who had three toes but was still Chinese...

I don't know if anyone's going to be able to see this photo posted here, in China. Last time I was there, this blog was cut off by the Great Firewall, but I post for it anyone who can: 恭喜发财

Check out here below a photo Gaiman posted on his blog of himself holding up the drawing [...]

Must Watch: 5 Year Old Nails Eric Carr’s KISS Drum Solo

Eric Carr - KISS

When it comes to matters pertaining to the band KISS, I always confess quite a level of bias, having been a fan since 1987 – and particularly a fan of late drummer Eric Carr. Besides this meaning I've been a member of the KISS army for 25 years now, I always keep my eyes peeled for something of interest when it pops up on the web.

Look no further than a video I stumbled across today that I'm sure even rock fans in general, drummers, and our regular readers here at Geeks of Doom may find will bring a smile to your face. [...]
