The Batmobile Is Copyrightable, But It’s Not What You Think

Silver Age Batmobile

Last week, U.S. District Judge Ronald Lew made a decision to allow DC Comics to sue a man who was making and selling Batmobiles on the grounds of copyright and trademark infringement. Despite numerous articles you may have read, this is nothing new.

Automobile enthusiast Mark Towles was manufacturing and selling a variety of Batmobiles through his company Gotham Garage as well as other items from TV and movie history including the 1966 version of the Batboat and the famed Munsters family car. DC Comics found out about this man's company and decided that it was within their right to file a claim against the man for violation of copyright and patents that they've had on the Batmobile for decades. Al Pacino Joins ‘Despicable Me 2′

Despicable Me

Yeah, because this seems like a logical move.

Following the recent move off the project by actor Javier Bardem, Deadline reveals that Universal and Illumination Entertainment have found a replacement to fill the role of villain in their upcoming sequel Despicable Me 2 in the form of one Al Pacino.

The character had been rumored to be named 'El Macho,' but unless they decide to have a campy performance from Pacino, the role may be getting a retooling. That said, personally, I love this move for Pacino. [...]

John Carter banner

Walt Disney Pictures premiered a new television spot for their upcoming big-budget sci-fi adventure John Carter last night during the Super Bowl and later released an extended version of the preview online.

You can watch both videos here below.

Both versions of the preview begin with a montage of scenes from John Carter that slowly reveal to form the film's title, which would be a kick to watch if not for the fact that both the title and the logo font are awful. Go with the extended spot which delivers lots more action, sumptuous Martian vistas, and leapin' Taylor Kitsch a-plenty! [...]

Battleship Image

During last night's Super Bowl Universal Pictures debuted the latest preview for their summer alien invasion epic/board game adaptation Battleship.

You can watch the TV spot here below.

The minute-long TV spot is little more than a sizzle reel of destruction, awesome-looking aliens (where the writers and director Peter Berg playing Halo during the development process?), and a hard rock soundtrack. In other words this looks like the ideal summer event flick. I just hope there's a really juicy steak among all this sizzle being sold, instead of that slab of rancid beef jerky that was Cowboys & Aliens [...]
