When looking for a director to make a movie based on the hit video game series, Twisted Metal, few can hand you a resume proclaiming "extensive experience with flaming heads." Brian Taylor is one of those people.

It's being reported---on the very same day that a new Twisted Metal game hits shelves, no less---that Taylor and Sony Pictures have reached a preemptive seven-figure deal that will see him write and direct a live-action adaptation of the game. [...]

‘Jodorowsky’s Dune’ Will Give Us A Mind-Blowing Glimpse Into The Greatest Sci-Fi Film Never Made

Jodorowsky's Dune

The first clip from the forthcoming documentary Jodorowsky's Dune has been released. You can watch it here below.

The universe works in perplexing ways, especially when it comes to the cinema. There have been more than a few books written about the great films that went unmade for a variety of complex and infuriating reasons. I own three of the best books about the subject: David Hughes' The Greatest Sci-Fi Movies Never Made, Tales from Development Hell, and Chris Gore's The 50 Greatest Movies Never Made. [...]

Skyrim

Are you obsessed with Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim?

Then chances are your Valentine already knows how much, so why not use your love of the game to show them how deep your love is for them with these Skyrim-themed Valentine's Day ecards.

Artist Jemma Salume made up a bunch of Skyrim-themed Valentine's Day ecards, so put down the controller for a few seconds, and send one of these messages, that contain sentiments like "I am sworn to be your Valentine" and "I used to be an adventurer like you...then I took an arrow in the heart." Or, maybe send one of these to your Skyrim addict to get them to step away from the game on this holiday of love [...]

Watch Brandon Routh & Bret Harrison Blast Monsters In SciFi Short ‘Cost of Living’

Posted: 14 Feb 2012 03:00 PM PST

Cost of Living

Cost of Living was one of the most popular features at last year's Fantastic Fest, a tongue-in-cheek short film that paid homage to the splattery tongue-in-cheek creature features of the 1980's and was written and directed by newcomer BenDavid Grabinski. Now the acclaimed short is online and you can watch the entire 9-minute film as well as a brief behind-the-scenes video here below.

Brandon Routh (Superman Returns, Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World) and Bret Harrison (Reaper) play (respectively) Silas and Jerry, a pair of working stiffs employed by a scientific facility that often loses control of its "experiments" and thus must be put down violently [...]

The loving folks over at Archaia and the team behind the graphic novel Mr. Murder Is Dead sent out some really cool Valentine's Day digital cards.

Check out the full sheet of Valentine's Day cards here below. I think my favorite one is "You put the VD in Valentine's Day" (an oldie, but goodie, no?).

Even though many movie tie-ins are generally not thought of too highly or are dismissed by most retailers, there are exceptions to that rule and G.I. Joe: Retaliation #1: Official Movie Prequel is one of them. Why? Let me explain.

5 Charitable Last-Minute Gift Ideas For Valentine’s Day

Charitable Gift Ideas For Valentines Day

Today is Valentine's Day and I, for one, really enjoy this holiday. I feel that any day that celebrates love is a good day. But, I know there are many people out there who hate it, including those who scream about "corporate greed!" and feel it's a holiday created by greeting card companies to guilt men into spending their hard-earned cash on overpriced cards, chocolates, flowers, and jewelry. Well, I can't argue with you there, as it is a big cash-in day for many industries (you Capitalists should love that).

So, for those of you who don't want to give your money to corporate fat-cats or go along with the obligatory overpriced flowers and candy routine, then here's some last-minute charitable gifts you can give -- because let's face it, if you've been going on all year about how Valentine's Day sucks, then most likely haven't gotten your sweetie a gift yet. But hey, just because you're a non-conformist who hates sappy holidays doesn't mean you can't show the love, too, and not just for your partner, but for anyone in your life you care about. And, wouldn't giving to charity on Valentine's Day be a nice finger in the face to materialism? Yeah, go for it!

Here's our list of 5 Charitable Last-Minute Gift Ideas For Valentine's Day [...]

Hey, everybody loves Ash, right? And everybody loves the Evil Dead movies, right? So, you should love Army of Darkness #1, right? Right!

Elliot Serrano takes a VERY different approach to this franchise, and I applaud him for that. He could have just gone with another run of the mill Ash vs. Deadites tale, but no, he made this issue fresh, different, and exciting [...]

Comics’ Finest Love Stories: 5 Comics To Fill Your Heart On Valentine’s Day

Posted: 14 Feb 2012 08:01 AM PST

Valentine of Doom

Candy hearts, chocolates, heart-shaped cakes and pizzas, and an open bag of Doritos on the floor next to your bed, this could only mean one thing, it's Tuesday! But it's not just Tuesday, no sir or ma'am! It's more than Tuesday! While it is in fact true that it's Tuesday, it's also Valentine's Day!

Valentine's Day can mean a variety of things depending on the person. But whether you're single, you really enjoy Valentine's Day, or if you just feel like you've gotta buy your significant other something, we here at Geeks of Doom have put together a little list of comic books to get you through this day filled with love, chocolate, and corporate interest to make you spend money on an item to prove something that you should be proving every day! And isn't that what it's all about, love and stuff? Sure is! So, without further ado, here are five of my favorite romantic stories in comics in what I consider Comics' Finest Love Stories. Admittedly, I don't read a lot of love stories in comics, so this list may get really weird, really quick. Anyway, here it goes! [...]
