Posted: 22 Feb 2012 07:00 PM PST

Doctor Who

The geek-friendly NBC comedy series Community may not be returning from its fan-enraging midseason hiatus until March 15th (as reported here), but for the time being maybe some of the show's die-hard followers (including yours truly) can take a little comfort in knowing that a small piece of the show's intricate tapestry wants to take on a life of its own.

Inspector Spacetime, the Doctor Who-spoofing character whose cheeky sci-fi exploits are vastly enjoyed by Community characters Abed (Danny Pudi) and Troy (Donald Glover), will soon be seen in his very own web series, but don't expect to see any cameos from certain Greendale Community College students. Travis Richey, the Inspector himself, is producing the six-episode series independently [...]

The Night Stalker

With the Tim Burton-directed Dark Shadows being released in May Johnny Depp is currently preparing to dive back into the world of cinematic adaptations of 1970's cult horror television. The Oscar-nominated star of Ed Wood, Donnie Brasco, and the Pirates of the Caribbean series has signed on to star in The Night Stalker, a film based on the early 70's series Kolchak: The Night Stalker for Disney. Even more interesting is that the movie will be directed by none other than Edgar Wright, the British television and movie writer/director whose impressive resume boasts such titles as Spaced, Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World [...]

Art by Dan Duncan
Colors by Ronda Pattison
Letters by Shawn Lee
Covers by Dan Duncan, Kevin Eastman & Mark Torres
IDW Publishing
Release Date: February 22nd, 2012
Cover Price: $3.99

My greatest fear for this book finally hit this issue, but on the whole, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #7 was surprisingly the best issue of the series so far! By a long shot!!

While I'm a huge fan of the Turtles, I'm not a fan of their science fiction stories. I'm a fan of them, on Earth, in the sewers, fighting ninjas. Every time they've lapsed over into "Turtles in Space" I have immediately lost interest completely. So, you can understand my disappointment when this issue opens in space, with a sci-fi battle. But, writer Tom Waltz quickly turned my worst fears into one of the COOLEST plot points (that I will NOT spoil here) so far in this book [...]

Wonder Woman Documentary Showcasing At SXSW

Wonder Woman: The Untold Story of American Superheroines

A new documentary entitled Wonder Woman: The Untold Story of American Superheroines, which focuses on the growth and development of superheroines through comics, war, feminism and the Riot Grrl movement of more recent years, will be showcased at the South By Southwest (SXSW) film festival.

While the documentary spends time on Wonder Woman, from the trailer which you can watch here below, it appears that the documentary is truly about feminism and how gender roles are displayed in popular culture depending on society's attitude towards women at the time. [...]

Comic Review: Red Sonja #64

Red Sonja 64

Red Sonja #63

Pencils by Walter Geovani
Colors by Adriano Lucas
Letters by Simon Bowland
Covers by Walter Geovani & Wagner Reis
Dynamite Entertainment
Release Date: February 22, 2012
Cover Price: $3.99

In Red Sonja #64, there is undeniable proof that Sonja actually IS a She-Devil with a Sword. So, that's settled.

Writer Eric Trautmann sure does his research. Red Sonja, as a character, is SO steeped in her own mythology that at times it must be overwhelming to come up with something brand new that hasn't been told a million times over. In this issue, he executes his ability to come up with original ideas in spades. I've read a LOT of Red Sonja comics, and it's very nice to have an issue that seems like you haven't read it somewhere before [...]

NASA scientists have been making a lot of exciting discoveries lately, including numerous Earth-like planets that might just be far enough from their stars to be habitable for otherworldly lifeforms.

But the latest planet to be reported on might just be the best chance yet at proving that there is in fact other forms of life out there. And why is that? you might ask. Well, because the majority of it is made up of water. [...]

Paul Rudd Wants To Talk Dirty To You In This NSFW Clip From ‘Wanderlust’

Wanderlust

Nothing better to beat back the winter doldrums than a healthy dose of ribald comedy. Well maybe that and some psychotropic hallucinogens. Unfortunately we can't provide you with the latter but we do have a really funny clip from the upcoming comedy Wanderlust and you can watch it here below.

Be forewarned though: this clip contains a lot of naughty talk that some of your more prudish co-workers might find O-fen-sive. [...]

Guillermo del Toro

As has become a habit, Guillermo del Toro is adding yet another project to his to-do list.

Del Toro is now set to produce Day of the Dead, a CGI-animated feature about a Romeo and Juliet-style love story set during the Day of the Dead, a Mexican holiday tracing back to the Aztecs that celebrates those who we've lost. It's also said that music will play an important part in the movie, and that numerous international A-list recording artists will be brought in to perform both original songs and covers of iconic songs for the soundtrack.
