‘Star Wars’ Concept Artist Ralph McQuarrie Has Died

Ralph McQuarrie, famous for his concept art and paintings for the original Star Wars trilogy, died today, March 3, 2012. He was 82.

McQuarrie's official web site posted the message of his passing today, but no cause of death was given, although he had been suffering from Parkinson's disease. You can read the full message here below.

Along with his Star Wars art, McQuarrie also worked on the original Battlestar Galactica television series, as well as the movies E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Jurassic Park, and Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. Of all his amazing art and illustrations, it was his concept work on 1985's Cocoon that won him the Academy Award for Visual Effects [...]

This week saw a lot of things happen in comics, one thing in particular was the DC Animated release of Justice League: Doom and adaptation of Mark Waid and Howard Porter's Tower of Babel story from the pages of Justice League. This week, in keeping with tradition, we here at Comics of Doom sit down and discuss the adaptation and our thoughts on the animated film. Well, most of us do. Jonathan Hickman Ends ‘Fantastic’ Run

Marvel Comics announced on Friday that acclaimed writer Jonathan Hickman would be wrapping up his 3-year Fantastic Four run in October.

While the future of the Fantastic Four title is surely not in jeopardy, it remains to be seen whether or not Hickman's initiated FF series will continue with another creative team. Jonathan Hickman's run with these characters has been highly praised by many within the industry and created a strong and rejuvenated interest in the characters. For example, when I was starting to get in to the Fantastic Four, many suggested Hickman's run alongside Mark Waid's, John Byrne's, and Stan Lee and Jack Kirby's tenure with the title. Therefore, in many readers' eyes, he's placed amongst the greats. So, while this news may come as a shock to many fans, Hickman isn't the only one who's shifting creative gears [...]
