Watch Now: 5-Minute ’21 Jump Street’ Red Band Trailer Posted: 07 Mar 2012 05:00 PM PST I initially found it disappointing that Jonah Hill was using his well-earned celebrity clout to mount a big-screen 21 Jump Street movie, even though the actor was insisting it would be funny and violent. I got even less interested when Channing Tatum, the moderately talented human two-by-four from the Step Up movies and G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, signed on to be Hill's co-star. The trend of reviving outdated television series as outsized comedy flicks, kicked off in 1987 with Dragnet, has never caught on as an actual trend and the original 21 Jump Street show was not something I was a fan of anyway. Then the first trailer for the movie hit and I found it really funny. Now, there's a newer, longer, and more profane 21 Jump Street trailer for you to laugh your ass all the way through. You can watch the red band clip here below, but be advised: there's a ton of swearing in it [...] |
‘Cloverfield’ Actress Jessica Lucas Cast In ‘The Evil Dead’ Remake Posted: 07 Mar 2012 04:00 PM PST After losing their star in Lily Collins and finding her replacement in Jane Levy, the rest of the cast for the remake of Sam Raimi's cult classic, The Evil Dead, is coming together. Consisting of lesser-known and unknown actors and actresses, the cast also currently features Shiloh Fernandez and Lou Taylor Pucci in addition to Levy. [...] |
Watch Now: ‘Community’ Animated Short ‘Abed’s Master Key Part 1′ Posted: 07 Mar 2012 03:00 PM PST On Monday we brought you the news that NBC would be producing a series of animated shorts to mark the return of Community from its mid-season hiatus. The first of the shorts has premiered online today. You can watch "Abed's Master Key Part 1" here below. Featuring the voices of the Community cast, "Master Key" finds Abed (Danny Pudi) becoming Dean Pelton's (Jim Rash) "depu-dean" and being given a master key to all of Greendale Community College, something the rest of the gang will likely attempt to exploit in the next two shorts [...] |
Book Review: Phoenix Rising, A Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences Novel Posted: 07 Mar 2012 02:00 PM PST Phoenix Rising A Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences Novel Paperback | Kindle By Pip Ballantine and Tee Morris HarperCollins Voyager Release Date: April 26, 2011 You know how everyone says to never judge a book by its cover? Well, I did… and boy, was it worth it! I was intrigued by the title Phoenix Rising, or rather the subtitle -- A Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences Novel -- but was snared by the art on the front. Going in with an expectation of sexy, steampunk fantasy I was happily rewarded with an excellent introduction to the characters. Agents Braun and Books came to life immediately. Even better, they continued to grow slowly throughout the book keeping me interested in not just the plotline, but in the character development as well. As with any steampunk novel this book is full of mechanized gadgets, well described and alluring. I might perhaps be doing this book an injustice by labeling it so, as it does have all the earmarks of an excellent fantasy-mystery. That said, it was a well-written, highly entertaining romp [...] |
Check Out This Breathtakingly Beautiful New ‘Prometheus’ Image Posted: 07 Mar 2012 01:00 PM PST The tantalizing glimpses at Ridley Scott's upcoming 3D science-fiction spectacular Prometheus have been slowly leaking out over the past few months. Now we've got an amazing new image from the film to feast our eyes upon, courtesy of the Weyland Industries website. You can check out the new image here below. Apparently this is supposed to be a star map control room on one of the spaceships featured in Prometheus, most likely from an alien vessel. An unidentified human (or otherwise) character stands in the center of this beautiful galactic tableau. Could this be the space jockey's ship we're seeing? Maybe it's not even in a spaceship [...] |
Posted: 07 Mar 2012 12:00 PM PST Hack/Slash #13 Written by Tim Seeley Art by Emilio Laiso Colors by Carlos Badilla Letters by Crank! Edits by James Lowder Covers by Tim Seeley & Allen Passalaqua and Ben Templesmith Image Comics Release Date: February 29, 2012 Cover Price: $3.50 I've been a Cassie Hack fan for quite some time, but Hack/Slash #13 is the first time I have had the chance to review the comic. I have long been impressed with Tim Seeley's writing and the way he manages to make every comic fun from start to finish. This issue was no exception, I thoroughly enjoyed the story (though I wish there was more Vlad in this one). Kicking off a comic with velociraptors is an awesome way to begin a story [...] |
Video: ‘Game Of Thrones’ Child Actors Sing Along To The Show’s Opening Theme Posted: 07 Mar 2012 11:00 AM PST Season 1 of Game Of Thrones was released yesterday on DVD and Blu-ray, which features seven audio commentaries, one of which is provided by the child actors who play the Stark children - Sophie Turner (Sansa), Maisie Williams (Arya), and Isaac Hempstead Wright (Bran). For their commentary track, the kids had a little fun with the show's popular opening credits sequence by attempting to sing along with it. It's good stuff, especially since if you're a fan of the HBO series, chances are, you've sang along with the opening the same way. Watch the video from the commentary track here below [...] |
Comic Review: RoboCop: Road Trip #3 Posted: 07 Mar 2012 11:00 AM PST RoboCop: Road Trip #3 Written by Rob Williams Illustrated by Unai De Zarate Colored by Alejandro Sanchez Lettered by Marshall Dillon Cover by Fabiano Neves Dynamite Entertainment Release Date: February 29, 2012 Cover Price: $3.99 The operative word here is 'Trip.' Y'see, RoboCop is going insane. He's having flashbacks to his childhood that quickly turn into nightmares, and he's seeing old enemies in hallucinations and talking to them. Unfortunately, he's dealing with a few other problems while he's losing his mind. America has fallen, OCP has taken over Old Detroit, he and a handful of fellow officers are on the lamb, trying to cross the Michigan border to get U.S. military aid, and, as RoboCop: Road Trip #3 opens, he's sinking to the bottom of Lake Erie, about to be mauled by a large, robotic mountain lion [...] |
Dark Horse Comics Expands Digital Marketplace Posted: 07 Mar 2012 10:00 AM PST Dark Horse Comics continues to grow their digital market when they announced on Monday that they would be bringing digital editions of their comics line to both Barnes and Noble's Nook and the Kobo Vox eReaders. eReaders are one of the top consumer gadgets from the iPad to the Kindle, so it's no surprise that a comic book publisher would be attempting to gather more ground in that format. Recently, we've seen plenty of publishers announce that their comics would be available throughout a variety of eReaders and Dark Horse continues to add to their availability. With this announcement, Dark Horse made titles like Mass Effect, Sin City, Star Wars, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Hellboy, and many others available to an even wider audience [...] |

Posted: 07 Mar 2012 07:00 AM PST Hell Yeah #1 Written by Joe Keatinge Illustrated by Andre Szymanowicz Colored by Jason Lewis Lettered by Douglas E. Sherwood Image Comics Release Date: March 7, 2012 Cover Price: $2.99 There was an interesting conversation in a lot of comic book communities a few months ago when DC rebooted its titles regarding what makes for a good first issue. Self-contained story or cliffhanger ending? How much character do you reveal? How much world do you need to build? How much do you save for later? All very good questions we should ask ourselves, but what wasn't properly addressed in that conversation was what challenges do independent creators have on titles that aren't reboots of well-established franchises? What's the hook going to be? When so much of the superhero appeal relies on interpersonal relationships it'll almost always be an uphill battle for the new, indie title where there's no established continuity [...] |
