‘Jurassic Park’ To Be Re-Released In 3D In July 2013 Posted: 19 Mar 2012 05:00 PM PDT Still one of the greatest of the modern Hollywood blockbusters, Steven Spielberg's original Jurassic Park is returning to theaters next summer not long after the 20th anniversary of its spectacular theatrical release. This time, however, audiences will have the chance to see the movie in glorious (hopefully) post-converted 3D. According to producer Kathleen Kennedy, the director and his longtime cinematographer Janusz Kaminski will be personally supervising the 3D conversion and conducting a frame-by-frame evaluation of the film to see that the process is done right. It's a shame that Dean Cundey, the director of photography on Jurassic Park, won't be involved in the project but at least the personal involvement of Spielberg and Kaminski (who shot the 1997 Jurassic Park sequel The Lost World) guarantees that this conversion won't be a sloppy, fly-by-night effort on the part of Universal Pictures to milk the franchise dry [...] |
Help Grant Terminally Ill ‘Doctor Who’ Fan’s Wish For TARDIS Urn Posted: 19 Mar 2012 03:49 PM PDT By Not Sure Through sci-fi and our limitless imagination we can live forever, we can touch the stars, and we can best any foe. There is a romance in that free and unbelievable escape, a poetry to the words of Bradbury, Wells, and the contemporary masters. Sci-fi fans Tashi King and Kevin "Wash" Pratt felt the pull of that romance and their shared love of it made their love for each other stronger. Just 22 and 24 when they married, the two were partners in crime, going to Cons and taking in copious amounts of Joss Whedon and Doctor Who. It's a familiar story to those who are lucky enough to have someone to share their interests with and it's a thing that others who don't have that often wish they did -- a friend, a partner, someone to geek out with. For Tashi and Kevin, though, things would soon take an awful turn. It began with Kevin losing his job as an architect and then snowballed from there. Sarah Fenske from the Phoenix New Times tells the full story here, but in short -- Kevin stopped laughing and he stopped being himself. This wasn't depression though and it wasn't marital troubles. Kevin had a tumor in his brain, an aggressive one that had compromised his memory, his physical ability, and his state of being. Worse still, the tumor, a gliobastloma multiformeit, was a likely death sentence, usually taking those afflicted by it 9 to 12 months after diagnosis 95% of the time. Kevin is presently 27 and he has lived with terminal brain cancer for 28 months [...] |
The Doctor Who TARDISblend 48: Series 7 News and Rumors Posted: 19 Mar 2012 03:00 PM PDT It's been a while, but it's time for another TARDISblend - and now with filming underway for Doctor Who Series 7, the floodgates have opened on the news and rumor mill. During TARDISblend 48, we preview the schedule for Series 7 and 8, as showrunner Steven Moffat begins the lead to the massive 50th Anniversary year in 2013. We take a look at the confirmed information, as well as the unconfirmed rumors - including one that hints of a main star from Moffat's Sherlock may be taking on the reins of a familiar long-time Who villain. We also discuss the possibilities of the new companion for the Doctor (Matt Smith) into Series 7 and beyond, as Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) and Rory Williams (Arthur Darvill) make their "heartbreaking" exit; as well as what is ahead for River Song (Alex Kingston) [...] This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
Posted: 19 Mar 2012 01:30 PM PDT Supurbia #1 Created and Written by Grace Randolph Art by Russell Dauterman Colors by Gabriel Cassata Letters by Steve Wands Cover by Ale Garza Cover Colors by Nei Ruffino Boom! Studios Release Date: March 7, 2012 Cover Price: $3.99 The Real Housewives for superhero spouses? Ugh, what a revolting concept! How stupid. How insulting. How the hell did they make this work?! Appropriately enough, as I was reading this book my girlfriend was watching a Real Housewives show. I hate Real Housewives. I really, really do. I hate the way the shows are shot, I hate how shrill the characters come off, and I really hate how petty and materialistic all their problems are. I asked her during the commercial what the program's appeal was for her. Buried beneath all those problems, she said, there's the story about the complex and competitive friendships women have with each other. When you put the show that way it starts to sound interesting. Throw in some guys with capes, trade the reality TV format for a comic, and I'm there [...] |
Watch Now: ‘Prometheus’ Extended International Trailer Posted: 19 Mar 2012 12:00 PM PDT Following this past weekend's release of the new domestic trailer for Prometheus at a Q&A session with director Ridley Scott moderated by screenwriter Damon Lindelof during this year's WonderCon, 20th Century Fox has blessed us online travelers with an extended international trailer that is structured and paced differently than the domestic. You can watch the trailer here below [...] |
Check Out Alice Cooper In The ‘Dark Shadows’ International Trailer Posted: 19 Mar 2012 10:25 AM PDT Remember back in October we reported that Alice Cooper would be playing himself in Tim Burton's upcoming movie Dark Shadows? Well, we haven't heard much since then about the casting and the shock rocker was noticeably absent from the film's domestic trailer, which was released last week. Now, the international trailer has been released and guess who pops up in it at the end? That's right, Alice Cooper - yeah!!! Watch the international trailer here below [...] |
MP3 Song Deal: Judas Priest’s ‘Living After Midnight’ Posted: 19 Mar 2012 09:00 AM PDT From what Amazon is telling me, March Is Metal, so all month long they're having sales on all things metal - sounds good to me! Today, they are offering up the MP3 version of the classic Judas Priest tune Living After Midnight for only $.69. Although the song was originally released on 1980's British Steel, the MP3 version offered today is taken from the best-of compilation The Chosen Few, priced at $10.99 for 17 songs that are all, wait, let me double check the track listing... yeah, pretty much awesome. Though it's strange to talk about metal bands having hits, "Living After Midnight" definitely qualifies as one for Judas Priest and is basically a gateway song to their extensive music catalog. Plus, if you're first learning how to play guitar or bass, "Living After Midnight" is one of the first songs you'll be able to master, along with Deep Purple's "Smoke On The Water" and Black Sabbath's "Paranoid." So, if you're not already a Priest fan, definitely get in on this $.69 MP3 song deal, and don't be afraid to grab the entire The Chosen Few album right now at its current low price [...] |

30 Years Gone: Remembering Guitar Legend Randy Rhoads Posted: 19 Mar 2012 06:10 AM PDT Today marks the 30th anniversary of the death of one of hard rock and heavy metal's true guitar heroes, Randy Rhoads. Rhoads, who found massive success with Ozzy Osbourne's first solo band back in 1980, after starting his career in an early version of Quiet Riot, died on March 19, 1982, a victim of a plane crash accident deep in the state of Florida while on tour with Ozzy. His death propelled him into the same vanguard as other legendary guitarists who also had their careers cut short by tragedy, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Duane Allman and of course, Jimi Hendrix. But like those guitarists, it wasn't just the fact that Randy Rhoads dying young cemented his and their legendary status. They were all well on their way to the pantheon of musical genius while still alive. But by dying young, all of them suddenly elevated into a "frozen in time" moment, a moment in which the possibilities of growing old and possibly tame, eluded them all [...] |
