Album Review: Richie Branson’s ‘The Wing Zero EP’ Posted: 20 Mar 2012 08:00 PM PDT The Wing Zero EP By Richie Branson Release date: March 20, 2012 Price: Free! How many of you were fans of the anime Gundam Wing when it was show on Cartoon Network? I know there are a bunch of you out there. I was one of you, still am a fan in fact. The other day I decided to break out the DVDs and started watching the show all over again. It remains a decent show and may have been the first anime any of you ever watched. So, when we got word that there was a new mix-tape from artist Richie Branson based on the show, I just had to take a listen to it. So I'm here to tell you about The Wing Zero EP EP. Now, the good news about this is that the record is free to download right now from Branson's webpage. The album is worth taking a listen to, especially at that price. It contains 13 tracks, six songs and seven instrumental tracks, and is pretty decent but not as good as I had hoped it would be [...] |
Michael Bay Tells Enraged ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle’ Fans To “Chill” After Alien Comment Posted: 20 Mar 2012 07:00 PM PDT Recently Michael Bay made some comments about the upcoming reboot of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles that has fans understandably furious. Bay, who's a producer on the Nickelodeon project through his Platinum Dunes, said that their mutated reptiles would actually be an "alien race," leading many to assume that these guys were actually going to turn the Ninja Turtles into aliens. Not the most popular thing to say, as you might imagine. [...] |
Comic Review: Rocketeer Adventures 2 #1 Posted: 20 Mar 2012 06:00 PM PDT Rocketeer Adventures 2 #1 Written by Marc Gugenheim, Peter David, Stan Sakai Art by Sandy Plunkett, Bill Sienkiewicz, Stan Sakai, and Arthur Adams Colors by Jeromy Cox, Dave Stewart, and John Raunch Letters by Robbie Robbins, Bill Sienkiewicz, and Stan Sakai Rocketeer Created by Dave Stevens Design by Chris Mowry Covers by Darwyn Cooke and Dave Stevens IDW Publishing Release Date: March 21, 2012 Cover Price: $3.99 There's days when I love comics and then there's days when I LOVE comics. Reading Rocketeer Adventures 2 #1 made me glad that out of all the hobbies or passions in the world, that mine is comic books. From start to finish, this book is one of the highest quality works I've read in a long time. There's three stories in this issue: Marc Guggenheim, Peter David, and Stan Sakai all tell wonderfully charming stories of the late Dave Steven's Rocketeer. While all three are good, Stan Sakai's is my favorite. There's a great innocence to it and a fantastic ending that will leave you smiling. Speaking of smiling, Peter David's story will have you grinning from ear to ear. It's an all out parody of our hero and very entertaining from start to finish. Marc Guggenheim's story is the first of the issue and I think it's meant to be the "heavy" of the issue. While I liked it, I really felt that I was being covertly preached to [...] |
Book Review: The Company of the Dead Posted: 20 Mar 2012 05:00 PM PDT The Company of the Dead By David J. Kowalski Titan Books Release date: March 13, 2012 Paperback | Kindle The Company of the Dead is quite an ambitious debut by obstetrician/gynecologist-turned-novelist, David J. Kowalski. This vivid sci-fi-military-thriller packs a lot of punch. Clocking in at 744 pages of dense multiple storylines that span a century of regular and alternative world history, Kowalski submerges us in the mysteries involving the original sinking of the Titanic in 1912 and many subsequent sinkings that occur. Jonathan Wells, a doctor who is either earnest and well-intentioned or utterly mad, discovers a time machine quite accidentally when he's called upon to perform emergency surgery at a secret government compound in Nevada. When things go south and he's about to be shot, he escapes in the time machine with Dr. Gershon, another main character, thus kick-starting a century-long wild game of fix and re-fix [...] |
Watch The New ‘Piranha 3DD’ Red Band Trailer Posted: 20 Mar 2012 04:00 PM PDT So what's the big difference between the new red band trailer for Dimension Films' summer splatter spectacle sequel Piranha 3DD and the tamer theatrical trailer that was released almost a month ago? In the words of Chris Griffin, "BOOBIES!" You can watch the red band trailer here below. In addition to the bounty of bouncing boobage on display here we have David Hasselhoff in a cheeky cameo, Ving Rhames getting all Planet Terror-ed up, Gary Busey getting gnawed up by piranha guppies, and the lovely Danielle Panabaker doing a Shivers/Slither bathtub homage. The Feast team of director John Gulager and screenwriters Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton (with additional assistance from producer Joel Soisson) are on hand to orchestrate another glorious ballet of carnage and chesticles [...] |
Check Out This Possible Leaked Teaser Poster For ‘The Wolverine’ Posted: 20 Mar 2012 03:03 PM PDT A possible teaser poster for next summer's The Wolverine has leaked today. You can check it out here below. The image was supposedly taken from the office of director James Mangold. If it proves to be authentic the poster will confirm that the next movie is taking Marvel's ageless, adamantium-clawed mutant to Japan for a storyline adapted from the early 1980's comic miniseries by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller that will pit Logan against ninjas, samurai, and a lost love. It's a stark and powerful teaser with Wolverine's trademark claws slashing through the image of the flag and the tagline "Rising Soon" playing on the nation's identity as the Land of the Rising Sun [...] |
Want: Jedi Training Academy Duffy the Disney Bear Posted: 20 Mar 2012 02:00 PM PDT If you've been to any Disney theme park, then you might have seen Duffy the Disney Bear. I know that the American Pavilion in EPCOT is overrun with Duffy for some reason. If you don't know who Duffy is, don't worry - basically, he's a very adorable teddy bear with a Mickey Mouse stamp on his feet (and his behind too now that I look at my purple Duffy bear). And now, Disney is making a Jedi version of Duffy! The story behind Jedi Duffy is that he's an enrolled in the Jedi Training Academy at Disney's Hollywood Studios (in Disney World in Orlando, FL). The padawan bear even wears the Jedi Training Academy t-shirt, along with the brown hooded Jedi robe, and carries a lightsaber that lights up - yes, I said it lights up! [...] |
Posted: 20 Mar 2012 01:00 PM PDT Ghostbusters #7 Written by Erik Burnham Art by Dan Schoening Colors by Luis Antonio Delgado PCOC Pages by Tristan Jones Letters by Neil Uyetake Covers by Dan Schoening, Nick Runge, and Casey Maloney IDW Publishing Release Date: March 21, 2012 Cover Price: $3.99 Ya know what? I'm gonna start with the END of Ghostbusters #7 for this review. The reason being is that I keep forgetting to give my second favorite Australian, Tristan Jones (sorry, T. Paul Hogan is THE MAN), his due. Dare I say, this comic would NOT be as awesome as it is without him. Just page through his supplemental PCOC (Paranormal Contracts Oversight Commission) pages and look at the sheer amount of work that goes into them. Not only are they entertaining, but whatever you want to know about the technical aspects of the Ghostbusters, it's there, thanks to Tristan. Well done, sir [...] |
Check Out This 5-Minute Action Clip From ‘Lockout’ Posted: 20 Mar 2012 12:00 PM PDT Over the weekend a clip from the upcoming sci-fi action flick Lockout was screened at WonderCon. Now the five-minute scene has been released online. You can watch it here below. The plot focuses on a convicted felon (Guy Pearce) who is handed the task of rescuing the President's daughter (Maggie Grace) from a prison that has been taken over by some of its most violent inmates. Only problem is the prison is in outerspace [...] |
Comic Review: Steed & Mrs. Peel #3 Posted: 20 Mar 2012 11:00 AM PDT Steed & Mrs. Peel #3 Written by Grant Morrison Art by Ian Gibson Letters by Ellie De Ville Covers by Ian Gibson Boom Studios Release Date: March 21, 2012 Cover Price: $3.99 I may have stated this in a previous review, but I've never seen The Avengers television show that the Steed & Mrs. Peel comic book series is based on. But, after reading Steed & Mrs. Peel #3 I think that I'm going to add it to my Netflix queue. For those looking for a Grant Morrison story, this really isn't that. Yes, he did write the book, but this isn't "Grant Morrison's Steed & Mrs. Peel!!!". It's Steed & Mrs. Peel written by Grant Morrison. What it is, is a charming, interesting, spy thriller with a lot of heart. You can tell that Morrison had a fondness for the show by the way he writes the characters and the story in general [...] |
WWE Films and Lionsgate Are Teaming Up To Reboot ‘Leprechaun’ Franchise Posted: 20 Mar 2012 10:00 AM PDT In what could be the greatest news of all time, World Wrestling Entertainment's film department WWE Films and Lionsgate are pairing to bring a new take on the cult classic horror film Leprechaun. Now, there currently aren't a lot of details about the rebirth of this movie as of yet, but there are a few things to note that I've gathered from various WWE news sources and as a watcher of their films. First, don't get me wrong, when I say that I watch WWE movies, I want you to take into consideration that I love watching horrible movies, and with the exception of Asylum, WWE pretty much has the terrible movie genre on lockdown. However, it seems that WWE has realized this fact and has attempted to change a few things recently when they've made statement regarding where the film department is going in the future [...] |
Book Review: Black Wings of Cthulhu: 21 Tales of Lovecraftian Horror Posted: 20 Mar 2012 09:00 AM PDT Black Wings of Cthulhu 21 Tales of Lovecraftian Horror By S. T. Joshi (Editor) Paperback | Kindle Titan Books Release date: March 20, 2012 Fans of H.P. Lovecraft all know about the Cthulhu Mythos and chances are even if you're not that familiar with Lovecraft's tales of terror, you've probably heard of "Cthulhu." That's because everybody loves Cthulhu (seriously, people love him/it!). So typically when a Lovecraft-inspired anthology is produced, the publisher will go right for more Cthulhu, not only to draw in the average reader, but also because contemporary authors can really make their mark with today's readers if they offer up a great Cthulhu story. While slapping a Cthulhu label on a book might be a good marketing strategy, Black Wings of Cthulhu, an anthology of 21 short stories inspired by Lovecraft's original tales, instead encompasses a lot of aspects of Lovecraft's writings. Don't worry, Cthulhu and friends are surely represented and while it's in the title, it's not the main focus of this collection -- although the big guy is front and center on the book's gorgeous gold-etched cover [...] |
The Rebooted ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ Will Be Aliens, According To Michael Bay Posted: 20 Mar 2012 08:01 AM PDT Looks like the title characters in the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot will be getting their turtle power from a source other than green mutagen found in a New York City sewer. At the recent 2012 Nickelodeon Upfront conference Michael Bay, who is producing the new film for Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon through his Platinum Dunes production company, offered up his thoughts on what children who didn't grow up devouring everything related to the weapon-wielding amphibious ass-kickers created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird in 1984 can expect from the gestating reboot [...] |
