Book Review: Ace Frehley – No Regrets Posted: 21 Mar 2012 06:22 PM PDT Ace Frehley: No Regrets Written by Ace Frehley with Joe Layden and John Ostrosky Gallery Books/MTV Books Release date: November 01, 2011 Hardcover | Kindle Space Ace Frehley – legendary guitarist and alien spaceman from deep space, specifically the planet Jendell... or the Bronx, depending upon which legend you choose to believe. For his No Regrets autobiography, written with assistance from Joe Layden and John Ostrosky, Ace determines to focus on the Earthbound tales of his back history, examining his memories from childhood, to wild teenage years, to his days with KISS, and his time as a solo artist. I read No Regrets with immense anticipation. Being a KISS fan is not just about enjoying their music, it is quite literally an obsession that becomes a lifestyle. [Geeks of Doom editors Eve and Dave will back me up here – go on, Eve, tell 'em about it right here: There is a shrine to Ace at the Geeks of Doom Headquarters, and in lieu of a framed wedding photo above the bed is a framed print of the cover of Ace's 1976 KISS solo album, undisputedly the best by far of the four KISS sole albums.] And a chunk of that lifestyle is discovering more about the history of the band members (original and otherwise), as it makes up a much larger picture of the KISS family [...] |
Posted: 21 Mar 2012 05:00 PM PDT Monocyte #3 Written by Kasra Ghanbari and Menton3 Art by Menton3 IDW Publishing Release Date: March 21, 2012 Cover Price: $3.99 The Monocyte series has a certain level of charm based on the fact that the dialogue of this book is so intellectual that it is oftentimes incomprehensible. From the dark and textured artwork of Menton3 to the profound script of Kasra Ghanbari, Monocyte screams 'NOT FOR EVERYONE!' That being said, Monocyte #3 is by far the most linear issue of this comic to date. Even though this comic may seem intimidating to newcomers, if you give it chance, Monocyte will change what you expect from comics. Monocyte #3 deals explicitly with the origin of Azrael's favorite death dealer, Monocyte. It is a bold move by the creative team to interject an origin story on only the third issue. Luckily this gamble pays off [...] |
Writer Seth Grahame-Smith Shares ‘Beetlejuice 2′ Details; Confirms Michael Keaton’s Involvement Posted: 21 Mar 2012 04:00 PM PDT Back in January, Tim Burton briefly spoke about the long-rumored sequel to his popular 1988 flick, Beetlejuice. At the time, Burton only said how much he loved the original and how good star Michael Keaton was in it, and that he told Seth Grahame-Smith---author of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (as well as the screenplay for the Burton-produced adaptation), and writer of Burton's latest directorial effort, Dark Shadows---to come up with some ideas for Beetlejuice 2 and he would look at the possibility of actually doing the movie from there. First Image Of Green Arrow Released From ‘Arrow’ Pilot Posted: 21 Mar 2012 03:00 PM PDT On Monday, Warner Bros. released the first image of Stephen Amell as Green Arrow from The CW's Arrow pilot. With each bit of news, I get even more excited about this show. In the first photo released from CW's Arrow, we see our hero Green Arrow posed with hood up, head down, and bow locked by his side. While we can't really get too many details from this image, we can speculate as much as we want to as to what this means for the show and how it will portray the main character. [...] |

Watch Now: Interview With Jenna-Louise Coleman – The New Companion For ‘Doctor Who’ Posted: 21 Mar 2012 01:00 PM PDT In a surprise move, Steven Moffat and the BBC have declared that Jenna-Louise Coleman will be portraying the new companion for Matt Smith's Eleventh Doctor, beginning with the Doctor Who Christmas Special at the end of 2012. You can watch an interview Doctor Who TV did with Coleman about the news at the bottom of this post. Many enthusiasts and speculators had previously believed the announcement would be kept tight-lipped until before the Christmas Special this year, so the BBC news about the new companion came as a big revelation to Whovians across the world [...] |
Sylvester Stallone Now Says ‘The Expendables 2′ Will Be Rated R Posted: 21 Mar 2012 12:00 PM PDT Back in January the hearts of action movie fans everywhere were broken at word that The Expendables 2 looked like it was going to be slapped with a PG-13 rating...and that it was due to the fact that Chuck Norris had gone soft and wouldn't do the movie unless the "vulgar dialogue" was toned down so that younger moviegoers could seea it. This, of course, angered the adult masses. The news was hoped to be a misunderstanding at first, but when Sylvester Stallone confirmed it, fears became reality. Now Stallone is making everyone happy by retracting said previous confirmation and now claiming that the movie will in fact be given the medal of honor R-rating. And all is right in the world. Comic Review: Super Dinosaur #9 Posted: 21 Mar 2012 11:00 AM PDT Super Dinosaur #9 Written by Robert Kirkman Pencils & Colors by Jason Howard Inks by Cliff Rathburn Letters by Rus Wooton Image Comics Release Date: March 21, 2012 Cover Price: $2.99 There's a lot missing from Super Dinosaur #9. Like the Super Dinosaur theme song. Super Dinosaur toys. Super Dinosaur t-shirts. Super Dinosaur breakfast cereal. Super Dinosaur the 3-D ride. Super Dinosaur Underoos and of course, Super Dinosaur: The Flame Thrower. But, for the comic itself -- it's pretty much all there. Robert Kirkman writes a great issue of a licensed property comic that never was a licensed property. Yes, this book is aimed at kids, but for someone like myself, and any reader who's over the age of about 16, it reads like that comic you picked up when you were a kid. GI Joe, Masters of the Universe, Visionaries, Transformers, Power Rangers, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, whatever it was that we watched on TV or played with in the yard and then that one day we discovered that there was a comic book to go with it!! And we ate that comic up with a spoon!!! That's the same feeling I got when reading this comic [...] |
The Beatles ‘Yellow Submarine’ To Be Remastered For New DVD Release Posted: 21 Mar 2012 10:00 AM PDT The Beatles 1968 animated classic Yellow Submarine is getting the re-mastering treatment, and will make its way to DVD this May 28, 2012, according to THR. Instead of going the usual route of computer software to re-master the film, the unanimous choice by Apple Corps (confirmed by them this past Tuesday), was to hand clean the film, frame by frame, preserving the hand-drawn artwork. This process took four months to bring to fruition. The soundtrack for the film will also be released on May 28th as well, which will also be re-mastered [...] |

There are a lot of great things about my birthday, first thing that comes to mind is that the world celebrates the day that their hero was born unto the Earth. The second being that I celebrate really simply with things like comics! Yes, that's right, comics! Comics are rad, right? Certainly on par with the radness of professional wrestling, that's for sure. And really, is there anything radder than comics or professional wrestling? Let me go ahead and answer that for you. No, there's not. So, don't get those facts twisted inside your head. Right! Sneak Peek: Watch 14 Seconds Of ‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn: Part 2′ Trailer Posted: 21 Mar 2012 08:01 AM PDT A few months before the release of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1, Summit Entertainment released a 15-second teaser clip of the trailer. Although, that might not seem like much, for fans who are clamoring to see any bit of new Twilight footage they can, those few seconds were enough to hold them over... for a few days. Now, the movie studio has done the same thing with The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2, the final installment in the 5-movie franchise. You can watch the 14-second teaser clip here below [...] |
