Kevin Smith Possibly Looking To Bring Back ‘Clerks: The Animated Series’ In 2013 Posted: 26 Mar 2012 06:00 PM PDT Back in early 2000 Kevin Smith, then at the height of his popularity as a filmmaker, saw the launch of a primetime animated series based on his debut feature, the 1994 cult classic comedy Clerks. The show was set to air Wednesday nights at 9:30 on ABC, the ideal time slot for a show inspired by a movie whose script was so rich in poetic vulgarity and profanity that the Motion Picture Association of America's ratings board originally slapped an NC-17 on Clerks, a decision that was later successfully appealed by the film's distributor Miramax Films. Smith had entertained offers from rival networks for the animated Clerks series before settling on ABC as an act of corporate solidarity since the network was owned by the Walt Disney Company, the multimedia conglomerate that also owned Miramax [...] |
Comic Review: Thief of Thieves #2 Posted: 26 Mar 2012 05:00 PM PDT Thief of Thieves #2 Story by Robert Kirkman Written by Nick Spencer Art by Shawn Martinbrough Colors by Felix Serrano Letters by Rus Wooton Image Comics Release Date: March 14, 2012 Cover Price: $2.99 Thief of Thieves #2 might not feel like much of a comic at first, my initial feeling was that it was underwhelming, but let it gestate some. I think there's something interesting going on here. The writing is the big draw for the new series from Image Comics. Or, to be more accurate, the writing process itself. The publishers' star scribe/Chief Operating Officer, Robert Kirkman, is utilizing his experience as Executive Producer on The Walking Dead and acting as 'Show Runner,' in TV terms, on the title, which, in comic terms means taking 'Story' credit. He's said, in essence, that he writes the broad outline of the story and that a different writer per arc will actually script the book. Morning Glories' Nick Spencer is tackling the first arc [...] |
‘Bioshock’ Loses Another Director As Juan Carlos Fresnadillo Departs the Production Posted: 26 Mar 2012 04:00 PM PDT For several years now a movie based on the popular Bioshock video game franchise has been in development. At one point Gore Verbinski (the first three Pirates of the Caribbean movies) was in the director's chair, but couldn't come to an agreement with the studio about the film's projected budget and his demand for an R-rating. Verbinski assumed producing duties instead and Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later) took over as director. But now it looks like the Spanish filmmaker is no longer involved with the long-gestating Bioshock movie either. "To be honest, by now, I'm completely out of that, and developing other stuff," Fresnadillo said in an interview with the Playlist while promoting his latest film Intruders. "Right now it's on hold. The studio and the videogame company, they have to reach some kind of agreement about the budget and the rating." Despite the popularity of the Bioshock games the franchise has a very limited fanbase outside the gaming community and wouldn't necessarily justify the sizable nine-figure budget required to bring the game to life on the big screen. Verbinski looks to be staying on as producer [...] |

$5 MP3 Album Deal: Laughin’ & Cryin’ With The Reverend Horton Heat Posted: 26 Mar 2012 02:00 PM PDT As part of Amazon's monthly $5 MP3 album deal for March 2012, Laughin' And Cryin' With The Reverend Horton Heat is on sale for only $5. If you'd like a physical copy of Laughin' And Cryin' With The Reverend Horton Heat, the CD is available for only $7.82. You may be asking, "Who the hell is The Reverend Horton Heat?" Well, he's not an actual reverend, for starters. He's Jim Heath, who acquired the nickname "Reverend" back in 1985 when his impromptu solo rendition of "Fulsom Prison Blues" was met with shouts of "Go Reverend" by the proprietor of the venue where Heath was simply known as "Jim the Sound Guy," It was that night that Jim Heath became The Reverend Horton Heat. The name Horton is a nod to Johnny Horton, an American country and rockabilly singer popular in the 1950s, and Heat is just a shortened version of Heath. The name also doubles as the name of the band, whose sound has been described as a combination of country, surf, punk, big band, swing, and rockabilly - sometimes collectively referred to as psychobilly. Their energetic sound and often humorous lyrics, make The Reverend Horton Heat an all-around good-time band [...] |
