Comic Review: Orbit: John Lennon

Orbit: John Lennon

Orbit: John Lennon
Written by Marc Shapiro
Art by Luciano Kars
Letters by Jaymes Reed
Graphics and Editing by Darren G. Davis
Bluewater Productions
Release date: March 28, 2012
Kindle Edition

John Lennon, musician, legend, influence that stretches far and wide, messiah, pariah, master of wit, innovator, trailblazer... comic book character?

That's exactly what Bluewater Productions tries to do with these adjectives and descriptions to bring to comic book life of one of the most enigmatic and forcefully creative individuals of the 20th Century (or arguably any century for that matter) with Orbit: John Lennon.

Bluewater, known for their prior work immortalizing many famous figures in its colored etchings within squares, now tackles the larger than life figure in Lennon. But, they unfortunately make the same clumsy errors here that deterred the other biographical comic book treatments that also attempted to mythologize public and famous figures from all stripes [...]

After an outstanding first season, Game of Thrones roared back to life last night with the Season Two premiere, "The North Remembers." Below, we've got your full spoiler-free review.

Doom has come to Westeros.

Throughout the course of "The North Remembers," there is a feeling of persistent fear and danger. Since the opening shots of the series premiere, this world has been on the brink of many things, but the season two premiere escalates these feelings even more. I think that few shows truly handle the concept of fear and what it can mean for characters in the show, but Game of Thrones proved that no character is safe from whatever uncertain danger lies ahead and the season two premiere looks to continue this trend. No one is safe and anything can happen and many of our characters are still dealing with the fallout from past episodes [...]

What Can We Expect From ‘Anchorman 2′ and Why Was It Held Up For So Long?

Anchorman

I remember when I first saw Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy -- it was on the big screen opening dayin 2004, and as I fondly recall I laughed my ass off many times during that first viewing and then some. Then when the movie was released on DVD I bought it and began to watch it repeatedly. Soon Anchorman became one of my top five favorite comedies. It has become a signature movie in my life, a wonderful comedy loaded with memorable characters, hilarious gags, classic comedic set-pieces, and terrific dialogue that my friends and I never tire of quoting to each other. The movie was so great in fact that I seriously desired for a sequel to be made. That doesn't usually happen much with comedies I love.

Action, science-fiction, and horror films easily lend themselves to being franchised, but franchising comedy is a much difficult prospect. But the principal cast and crew of Anchorman saw what a hilarious and special film they had made and sought for years to make a sequel, not out of the mercenary pursuit of greater wealth and exposure but out of the love they had for the characters and the world they created. It was just that the studio was adamant against making it for reasons that sound utterly ridiculous when you say them out loud. The project's future seemed so questionable that the original film's star was considering it dead in the water as recently as a few weeks again.

Then a funny thing happened just a few days ago [...]

Book Review: Derren Brown ‘Confessions of a Conjuror’

Derren Brown, Confessions of a Conjuror

Confessions of a Conjuror
Written by Derren Brown
Channel 4
U.S. Edition | UK Edition

Derren Brown is a relative celebrity in the UK, but not one to be found in the weekly glossy trash mags, no. That's because he's far too intelligent for those depths. Trouble is, America may not have heard of him, save for certain worldwide controversy.

He's known famously in the UK as a Mentalist, [a real-life and better-than Simon Baker by far] using magic, suggestion, psychology, misdirection, and showmanship as well as old school theatrics to rival Mesmer, Houdini, Penn and Teller, and even that lazy David Blaine. Derren honed his skills at Bristol University, testing students and none another than Ricky Gervais's sidekick Stephen Merchant [famous for now] as well as working part-time in a restaurant in Bristol as a table hovering close-up magician. Someone in Channel 4 Television noticed him in 1999 and produced a few TV specials Derren Brown: Mind Control and following series – approaching the general public with mind-bending psychic feats and illusion [...]

Watch Now: Seth MacFarlane’s ‘Ted’ Gets A Red Band Trailer

Ted

A live-action comedy from Seth MacFarlane about a grown man and the relationship he shares with his best friend, a teddy bear that came to life as the result of a childhood wish and who spends most of his days cussing, getting high, and getting laid. Sounds like an awesome April Fools' Day prank, but the truth of the matter is, it is anything but.

Two weeks after the premiere of its first poster, Universal Pictures has released the first trailer for Ted, which marks Family Guy/American Dad creator MacFarlane's big-screen directorial debut.

You can watch the restricted trailer here below [...]

Rumor Alert: The Daleks Return To ‘Doctor Who’; Which Ones? ALL OF THEM!

The Daleks Return To Doctor Who. Which Ones? ALL OF THEM!

It's been a while since we've had a pure Dalek episode of Doctor Who, the previous being Victory Of The Daleks from Series 5 in 2010. As hinted in the recent teaser trailer for Series 7, the Daleks are coming back, and this time (according to rumor) they're kicking off the season with episode one.

But the last time the Daleks had their own episode, a new archetype was revealed – a new design that wasn't universally welcomed by fans – some scoffing at them as iDaleks or Power Ranger Daleks. Personally, I didn't mind the new versions, but that's hardly the point here.

So the question is, which Daleks will be in this upcoming episode? [...]
