Join Occupy Midian and Help Get Clive Barker’s Restored and Uncut ‘Nightbreed’ On DVD Posted: 07 Apr 2012 02:00 PM PDT On February 16, 1990, Nightbreed, British horror author and filmmaker Clive Barker's second feature as a director, opened in theaters across the country after having its release delayed for months to allow for extensive re-editing and the creation of elaborate visual effects. Barker based the script on Cabal, his 1988 novella about a tormented man named Aaron Boone who is framed as a serial killer by his maniacal psychiatrist Dr. Decker and finds acceptance and amazing powers in an underground tribe of benevolent but frightening creatures known as the Nightbreed. The young director had planned for Nightbreed to be the "Star Wars of horror" and was given an $11 million budget - his biggest yet - to realize his vision. The film was shot on location in Calgary, Canada, and at England's historic Pinewood Studios, the facility which has hosted the productions of nearly every James Bond adventure as well as various Superman and Batman films, Aliens and Alien 3, and most recently Captain America: The First Avenger and the upcoming two-part adaptation of The Hobbit. Ralph McQuarrie, the late conceptual artist who helped George Lucas sell 20th Century Fox (the studio that would eventually distribute Nightbreed theatrically) on the first Star Wars, was brought in by Barker to provide important matte paintings and a mural that would depict the dark and twisted history of the Breed during a key sequence in the film [...] |
‘Raging Bull’ Sequel In The Works; Casting Underway Posted: 07 Apr 2012 12:00 PM PDT A few websites around the cyber universe are abuzz with some of the most eye-opening and ultimately distressing news to fans of Raging Bull, the 1980 biopic directed by Martin Scorsese which told of the life of ex-middleweight boxer and champion Jake LaMotta. MovieHole is reporting that a prequel/sequel hybrid film is going to start production this summer, starring William Forsythe (Dick Tracy, Gotti, Boardwalk Empire) as LaMotta, who will try to fill the enormous shoes of playing the role that was made famous by Robert DeNiro in the original film. Casting is currently underway for the new film, based on a book by the real LaMotta entitled Raging Bull II: The Continuing Story of Jake LaMotta. This new installment will show the pre and post career of LaMotta, bookending the original film. Forsythe plays the older LaMotta; who will be playing the younger LaMotta remains to be seen [...] |
Watch This Stop-Motion Animation Of Hemingway’s ‘The Old Man and the Sea’ Posted: 07 Apr 2012 11:00 AM PDT Everyone's familiar with Ernest Hemingway 1952 story The Old Man and the Sea - the classic tale of a downtrodden old fisherman who ventures out to sea where he hooks a marlin that won't give in too easily. The story turns into an epic struggle between man and fish, as well as a triumph of wills. Artist Marcel Schindler has created a stop-motion animation of his illustrative narrative of Hemingway's The Old Man and the Sea. You can watch the 4-minute video here below [...] |

Watch ‘Alien: The Easter Edition’ Posted: 07 Apr 2012 08:01 AM PDT In space no one can hear you... celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. An astronaut discovers a mysterious egg wrapped in festive cellophane. He tears away the plastic wrap, removes his helmet, and investigates the giant chocolate egg when all of a sudden, something bursts forth through the candy-stuffed insides... In perhaps the funniest homage to Alien since Mel Brooks' 1987 film, Spaceballs (Hello my baby, hello my honey!), Geoff Gedroyc and Will Tribble have created a delightful Easter spoof filled with chocolate Facehuggers and vicious chest-bursting Easter bunnies. You can watch the video here below [...] |
