Watch Tony Stark and Loki Share Some Tense Words In This New Clip From ‘The Avengers’

Posted: 11 Apr 2012 06:00 PM PDT

The Avengers

A new clip from The Avengers has been released today. You can watch it here below.

What this is basically is an extended version of the "Head Count" TV spot with Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), out of the Iron Man armor, educating vengeful fallen god Loki (Tom Hiddleston) about the impressive roster of superheroes that have been assembled to oppose him. I love watching characters from two different comic book movies meeting up on screen while being played by the same actors. The Avengers is the ultimate Marvel Universe movie and I couldn't be more stoked for its release [...]

Comic Review: Lord of the Jungle #3

Lord of the Jungle #3

Lord of the Jungle #3
Written by Arvid Nelson
Illustrated by Roberto Castro
Lettered by Simon Bowland
Colors by Alex Guimaraes
Covers by Paul Reaud, Lucio Parrillo, and Francesco Francavilla
Dynamite Entertainment
Release Date: April 11, 2012
Cover Price: $3.99

If you like the character of Tarzan, you're going to love Lord of the Jungle #3. Simply put, it's a fantastic Tarzan story. Dynamite Entertainment is really turning their books up a notch creatively. Line wide, they are dismissed by many as just a licensed comic publisher, but honestly, if you take the time to READ their books, you're going to find that a big percentage of them are well thought out, well-crafted comics.

In this issue, writer Arvid Nelson continues telling a great story that he started two issues ago. Yes, it's origin-like, but not completely an origin, if that makes any sense. It will when you read the book [...]

Amazing Spider-Man To Team Up With Ultimate Spider-Man In ‘Spider-Men’

Posted: 11 Apr 2012 04:00 PM PDT

spidermen

You'd think the two big comic book publishers (DC and Marvel in case you didn't know) would learn from each other's mistakes, right? DC Comics has written itself into a corner so many times crossing their various universes that multiple reboots have been required to set things right. Marvel has required reboots for other reasons, and that's another story. Has Marvel paid attention to DC's "issues" with universe cross-overs? Obviously they have not because they've announced another big summer story arc called Spider-Men that involve the Ultimate Universe Spider-Man and the standard universe Amazing Spider-Man teaming up to fight the good fight.

Brian Michael Bendis (Avengers, Ultimate Comics Spider-Man) will be penning the five-issue miniseries with artwork being handled by Sara Pichelli (Ultimate Comics Spider-Man) and cover art by Jim Cheung (Avengers VS. X-Men) [...]

Comic Review: Secret #1

Secret #1

Secret #1 Written by Jonathan Hickman
Art by Ryan Bodenheim
Image Comics
Release Date: April 11, 2012
Cover Price: #3.50

In the case of Secret #1, I clearly judged this comic by its cover. The inclusion of actual photograph on a comic book cover is not something you see often. The cover of Secret #1 grabbed my attention the first time I saw it. The ghostly white set of teeth clenched around a sea of black tendrils was haunting. Luckily for me, I do not live to regret picking up this book based on its cover. Secret #1 is a tense and masterfully crafted first issue from an extremely talented young team.

Secret #1 plays out much like the opening scenes of a James Bond movie. We are first introduced to an unlucky C.E.O who has just had some information forcefully removed in a home invasion. Immediately after that, the rest of the comic takes place in a private meeting with some of Washington's most powerful men, who are just learning that their private security is "shit." The man delivering this information is known as Mr. Miller, who by all accounts is a private security expert with a few darker things planned for the future [...]

Watch Now: The Trailer For ‘Evil Dead 2′ Gets Rotoscoped

Posted: 11 Apr 2012 01:54 PM PDT

Evil Dead 2

I am a fan of all things related to Evil Dead 2 (Order the 25th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray here), Sam Raimi's classic 1986 sequel to the gruesome and horrifying splatterpunk epic that launched his directing career. It's my absolute favorite movie of all time and nothing will ever, nor can ever, replace it.

There's a video that has been floating around online for nearly three years in which the last 45 seconds of the movie's trailer has been animated using the technology known as rotoscoping, where live-action footage is traced over frame-by-frame by animators.

You can watch the video here below [...]

Comic Review: Alabaster: Wolves #1

Alabaster: Wolves #1

Alabaster: Wolves #1
Written by Caitlin R. Kiernan
Art and Letters by Steve Lieber
Colors by Rachelle Rosenberg
Covers by Greg Ruth, Michael Avon Oeming
Dark Horse Comics Release Date: April 11, 2012
Cover Price: $3.50

As luck would have it, I just randomly chose some of the comics up for review this week. And I scored with this one, let me tell you. I read this and loved every moment of it. Alabaster: Wolves #1 stands out from the average comic book in a multitude of ways.

Caitlin R. Kiernan's protagonist, Dancy Flammarion, is a remarkable character in that she is both an atypical teenager and a complete badass. Backed by one of the creepiest looking angels ever, she is a dangerous slayer of all things evil. Her no nonsense attitude and inability to back down from a fight makes her a very deadly opponent, indeed. Add to that her albino skin and total disregard for niceties and you get one of the best anti-heroes I have ever seen or read [...]

Robert Kirkman Developing ‘Thief Of Thieves’ For AMC

Posted: 11 Apr 2012 11:00 AM PDT

Thief of Thieves #1 Martinbrough and Serano

AMC announced today that Robert Kirkman will be bringing the new Image comic book Thief of Thieves to the the cable network.

The Thief of Thieves comic book is a collaborative effort between several creators including Robert Kirkman, Nick Spencer, and Shawn Martinbrough that tells the story of a master thief who delves back into the underworld that he tried to leave, and vows only to take what has already been taken. As a comic, it feels very much akin to the many comics from Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips considering its crime/noir vibe [...]

Must See: The Working Giant Nintendo Controller Coffee Table!

Posted: 11 Apr 2012 10:00 AM PDT

Nintendo Controller Table Banner

So many wild and wacky ideas, we humans like to come up with. For example: what would you say if I told you I wanted to make a coffee table designed like the classic Nintendo video game console's controller...and that I wanted to still be able to play Super Mario Bros. on it?

That, of course, is nothing that I would ever say, because in the RPG that is this life, I have not taken the time to allocate my inherited points into useful skills such as woodworking and electronics and art. Instead, all of my skill points have gone into stubbornness, cynicism, and an unparalleled ability to eat food really well. [...]

‘Hunger Games’ Director Gary Ross Confirms He Won’t Return For Sequel ‘Catching Fire’

Posted: 11 Apr 2012 08:02 AM PDT

The Hunger Games

Lionsgate recently made it clear that they had every intention to bring back The Hunger Games director Gary Ross for the sequel, Catching Fire, after rumors began swirling that he wouldn't be returning.

But apparently Lionsgate's intentions, no matter how persuasive, have failed them. It's being reported that Ross has informed the studio that he will not be jumping back into the director's chair for Catching Fire, and Lionsgate is said to be "in shock" over the decision.

Read a statement from Ross below, as well as one from Lionsgate. [...]
