Netflix Review: Star Trek – The Next Generation (Seasons 1 & 2) Posted: 13 Apr 2012 05:00 PM PDT Star Trek - The Next Generation (Seasons 1 & 2) Netflix Streaming Complete Series DVD Season One DVD | Season Two DVD Created by Gene Roddenberry Starring Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, Gates McFadden, Marina Sirtis, Brent Spiner, Michael Dorn, LeVar Burton, Wil Wheaton, Whoopi Goldberg, John de Lancie Paramount Originally Broadcast: September 28, 1987 One of the greatest things about Netflix's streaming service is the immediate accessibility to television series, both old and current, without being interfered with by lame advertisements interrupting your viewing experience. On top of that, there's also the bonus of watching entire seasons in bulk, demolishing the week-to-week wait. But when we were discussing Star Trek on a recent episode of the Social Blend podcast, I couldn't help but hop down Nostalgia Avenue for this week's Netflix Review as well [...] |
Friday The 13th: Jason Voorhees Through The Years Posted: 13 Apr 2012 04:02 PM PDT Today's your lucky day, all you paraskevidekatriaphobics out there! It's Friday The 13th everyone and instead of focusing on all your irrational fears, why not just enjoy this very cool Friday The 13th-themed illustration? The artwork, by deviantArt user xamoel, shows everyone's favorite movie masked serial killer, Jason Voorhees -- who's forever coming back from the dead -- as he's looked through the years over the course of 12 [so far] Friday The 13th movies [...] |

DC Direct Becomes DC Collectibles; Expands Online Offers Posted: 13 Apr 2012 02:00 PM PDT DC Entertainment announced on Wednesday that it would be altering its DC Direct action figure and collectibles line by rebranding as DC Collectibles. DC Collectibles is doing a lot to expand its online presence most importantly by offering all of its products online through their official website, which launches in May. One reason why this is significant is that in its prior incarnation, DC Direct offered nothing as far as purchasing on the site. Customers were either to be redirected to separate sites, or given a list of retailers that carried DC Direct statues and action figures [...] |
Batman and ‘Smallville’ Lead DC’s Charge Into Digital Posted: 13 Apr 2012 01:00 PM PDT DC Comics announced today that the comic book publishing company would be expanding its digital comics initiative with brand new weekly comics with Smallville Season 11, Batman, and a manga-inspired Ame Come line leading the charge. Alright DC Comics, you've got my attention. This news story comes alongside a nice feature with writer Bryan Q. Miller on USA Today as he discusses preview pages and the previously announced Smallville Season 11 weekly digital comics series that follows the events of the popular TV show, which finally hits the digital platform today. Next month, Justin Gray and Jimmy Palmiotti will begin a new weekly digital comic based on Manga style that focuses on Wonder Woman and other female superheroes which takes the Ame Comi name from DC's popular statue line. Where this gets really interesting to me, however, is with the announcement of the weekly Batman comics [...] |
Check Out This Mighty New Hulk Image From ‘The Avengers’ Posted: 13 Apr 2012 12:00 PM PDT I have a feeling The Avengers is going to be one of the most entertaining movies we see this year. Last night the film was screened for critics and the overall reaction was extremely positive. Make no mistake, the expectations for this movie are higher than any comic book-based blockbuster made to date with the possible exception of the upcoming The Dark Knight Rises. At least we can take some comfort in knowing that it delivers where it counts, and then some. Now, Paramount Pictures and Marvel Studios have released a brand new image of the Hulk as rendered by FX artisans Industrial Light and Magic. You can check it out here below [...] |
‘Sin City 2′ Officially On The Way; Casting Begins Next Week, Shooting To Start This Summer Posted: 13 Apr 2012 11:00 AM PDT Endless rumors have surrounded the possibility of a Sin City 2, the follow-up to Robert Rodriquez's wondfully stylized 2005 adaptation of Frank Miller's graphic novel of the same name. So much so that fans had all but given up hope that the sequel would actually ever happen. Today, rumor becomes fact. Original director Rodriguez, along with Miller and producer Alexander Rodnyansky, have announced that they are ready to begin production on the sequel, which will be titled Sin City: A Dame To Kill For, through Rodriquez's Quick Draw Productions, Rodnyansky's AR Films, with Dimension Films handling domestic distribution. Con Preparation: The Proper Way To Cosplay Posted: 13 Apr 2012 10:00 AM PDT In consideration of this weekend's C2E2 convention in Chicago, Illinois, I wanted to take a moment to talk to some attendees and discuss the proper way to cosplay. Now, the first thing that you should know about this collection of suggestions is that I am one of the few that can truly appreciate all forms of cosplay whether it be prepared months to years in advance, down to putting on a Jake hat and just wearing brown. So, don't think this is article that is meant to condemn anyone for their cosplaying desires. And while I've not actually cosplayed at a convention, I celebrate Halloween like it should be celebrated. So, I have some expertise within the social costuming segment of the population. Also, you'll get a bit of a view from someone that shows appreciation to your effort, while also having to deal with the elaborateness of your chosen costume. So, now that we've given the parameters of this guideline, let us move along unto the actual list [...] |
Movie Review: The Cabin in the Woods Posted: 13 Apr 2012 09:00 AM PDT The Cabin in the Woods Directed by Drew Goddard Written by Drew Goddard and Joss Whedon Starring Kristen Connolly, Chris Hemsworth, Anna Hutchison, Fran Kranz, Jesse Williams, Richard Jenkins, Bradley Whitford, and Amy Acker Lionsgate Release Date: April 13, 2012 Stop me if you've heard this one: a group of college kids visit a remote cabin in the woods to partake in irresponsible activities such as (but not limited to) alcohol, illicit drugs, and premarital sex. One by one, these nubile teenagers are hacked to pieces by an axe-wielding maniac in the woods (or God-forsaken summer camp). Sound familiar? It should. You've seen this genre convention in horror films like The Evil Dead, Friday the 13th, Cabin Fever, Sleepaway Camp, The Burning, and Tucker & Dale Vs Evil. The Old Dark House has become The Cabin in the Woods, a subversive, spirited deconstruction of the genre. Even the film's title is a reference to the archetypes it celebrates and simultaneously dissects [...] |
