Webcomic Review: King Of The Unknown Posted: 16 Apr 2012 06:00 PM PDT King of The Unknown Created by Marcus Muller Art by Marcus Muller King of The Unknown Release Date: Available Now Webcomics typically fall into two categories: either they are rough homemade projects that rely on humor and a compelling story to make up for a lack of art, or they are polished, professional-looking comics that feature a very abstract concept that has relatively no mainstream appeal. The webcomics that can find the space in between those two categories tend to be the ones that generate an audience. Off the top of my head, I can think of several webcomics that have jumped the gap from D.I.Y projects to independent masterpieces including, Evan Dahm's Rice Boy and Ben Costa's Shi Long Pang. King of The Unknown falls into that harmonious middle ground as well with polished artwork and thoughtful storytelling. Marcus Muller has created a comic that has ties to mainstream audiences, yet stays true to the roots of the webcomic community [...] |
It Came From The Interwebs: Rocky 4 With Robots, Marvel Dance-Off, Kirk Cameron Posted: 16 Apr 2012 04:00 PM PDT With a jetpack fueled by insomnia and an easily amused mind, From the Interwebs scours and sifts through everything that has ever appeared on the internet (more or less) to find a few things that you should know about every week. These things come from the interwebs, hence the clever name. This week we have Rocky 4 with robots, CD art, Tobias Fünke, a Marvel Dance-Off, and child celebrities responding to Kirk Cameron [...] |

Later, we also take a look at Timothy Zahn's next upcoming Star Wars novel, which is essentially a crime/heist tale set in the backdrop of the SW galaxy. The book is called Star Wars: Scoundrels and is set to be released towards the end of the year [...] This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

Hall Of Shame: 6 Bands Snubbed By The Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame Posted: 16 Apr 2012 11:00 AM PDT On Saturday another round of musicians and bands were inducted into Cleveland's storied and controversial Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The triangular glass edifice (which the term "glass house" certainly applies here) has been home to many musical artifacts and slightly biased and even ass-kissing styles in terms of its adoration and out and out blatant favoritism in terms of who gets inducted into this sprawling pyramid of a place. The history of the hall itself is also as messy as the communal responses to it. The Rock and Roll Foundation itself was founded on April 20, 1983. But the physical building itself did not open until over 10 years later, finally opening on September 2, 1995. There were a few different choices originally where the building should have been built, Memphis (birthplace of Sun and Stax Records), Detroit (home of Motown Records), Cincinnati (home of King Records, which showcased early Rockabilly and James Browns' embryonic musical start), and New York City (home of many songwriters and producers). But Cleveland was chosen for a few reasons. One, $65 million in public money was pledged to the funding of the construction, which certainly whetted the Rock and Roll board's appetite; Two, many public polls favored Cleveland to having the hall built there; and most importantly, three, Cleveland disc jockey Alan Freed has been considered in essence the first person to credit, acknowledge, and even coin the term "Rock and Roll." Freed even organized in Cleveland in 1952 what is widely considered the very first Rock and Roll concert as well there. These factors were main catalysts in creating and finalizing the decision to have The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame erected in downtown Cleveland, where it stands today, right by the banks of Lake Erie, just east of where the NFL team The Cleveland Browns play in their stadium [...] |

TV Review: Game of Thrones 2.3: What Is Dead May Never Die Posted: 16 Apr 2012 08:01 AM PDT Game of Thrones Season Two, Episode 3 – What Is Dead May Never Die Directed by: Alik Sakharov Written by: Bryan Cogman Starring: Mark Addy, Alfie Allen, Emilia Clarke, Liam Cunningham, Charles Dance, Stephen Dillane, Peter Dinklage, Michelle Fairley, Aidan Gillen, Jack Gleeson, Iain Glen, Kit Harington, Lena Headey, Conleth Hill, Carice van Houten, Harry Lloyd, Richard Madden, Patrick Malahide, Rory McCann, Sophie Turner, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Maisie Williams, and Issac Hempstead-Wright Part of the episodic structure of Game of Thrones, for good or for bad, is that the show is a direct one-to-one adaptation of the book series. Having not read the books, I don't know how faithful the adaptation is, but George R. R. Martin's structure doesn't often lend itself to having individual episode themes; instead, the show looks to playing out the larger themes of the series over the course of the season. This isn't a bad way of storytelling, in fact, it's one that Game of Thrones has very well mastered. Power and who wields this power has been a topic of much discussion for many of our characters this season and this week's episode, "What Is Dead May Never Die," continues this concept, but also plays with the assumption and illusion of who really, truly has power.
