‘The Baytown Disco’ Trailer Reminds Us How Much Fun Southern Crime Can Be Posted: 19 Apr 2012 06:00 PM PDT The Baytown Disco follows the story of three Southern brothers whose life of crime leads them to a job where they have to play as the good guys. But before you can peg this as some sort of awful direct to DVD flick, take a look at the very awesome trailer here below. It will convince you that The Baytown Disco is the kind of popcorn slam-bang actioner that we've been waiting for. The trailer is filled with eye-popping action, animated title explosions, plenty of foul-mouthed characters, and stripper assassins. Yep stripper assassins. Did I mention that the film stars Billy Bob Thornton as a ruthless mobster and Eva Longoria as a godmother requesting that the brothers bring back her godson from her ex-husband [...] |
Two ‘Cosmopolis’ Trailers Mark The Return Of David Cronenberg’s Bizarre Mind Posted: 19 Apr 2012 05:00 PM PDT Admittedly I was never a fan of Robert Pattinson to begin with. For one thing his pasty sparkly complexion ruined the reputation of the cinematic vampire. But after watching the teaser for David Cronenberg's Cosmopolis, I was very interested in seeing how he changed from swooning bloodsucker to eccentric billionaire looking for a simple hair cut. Now two full trailers have shown that he is going to silence all the haters with his dark and twisted performance. Check it out after the jump. It's been a while since we've seen something like this from David Cronenberg, who has been steering clear of these odd and twisted movies. So directing Cosmopolis is a very welcomed return [...] |
‘Ender’s Game’: A Look At Ender’s Bedroom and His ‘Monitor’ Posted: 19 Apr 2012 04:00 PM PDT The long-gestating film adaptation of Orson Scott Card's classic sci-fi novel Ender's Game is in full swing with a solid director in Gavin Hood (Tstosi) and a stellar cast. Producer Roberto Orci has been providing regular updates on the progress of the film through his Tumblr production blog. Yesterday Orci posted a picture of the film's young hero Ender Wiggins with a monitoring chip implanted on the back on his neck. Check out the image here below [...] |
Blu-ray Review: Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close Posted: 19 Apr 2012 03:00 PM PDT Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close Blu-ray | DVD Directed by Stephen Daldry Starring Thomas Horn, Tom Hanks, Sandra Bullock, Max von Sydow, Jeffrey Wright, Viola Davis Release Date: March 27, 2012 The opening image of Stephen Daldry's Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close is of an unidentified man free falling from the sky. Instantly we are reminded of Mad Men's logo indicating man's fall from grace and even reminded of Vertigo's poster of man's infatuation with an uncontrollable fear. Each of these instances depicts a man's descent from a higher place. In Daldry's opening, the man is falling out of the sky after trying to escape from one of the World Trade Center towers during the 9/11 attacks. The unidentified man is soon revealed as being Tom Hanks, the father of Oskar Schell (Thomas Horn), a boy with an intellect well beyond his years. It doesn't seem to be of any useful assistance, only increasing his stress and worsening his emotional malady. Perhaps his superior intellect is a curse. He will soon fall out the innocence associated with childhood and begin his journey prematurely to adulthood, where uncontrollable fears and falling from grace reign supreme [...] |
The Band Drummer Levon Helm Dies At 71 Posted: 19 Apr 2012 01:39 PM PDT These public deaths always seem to happen in threes, but seemingly not THIS fast. Earlier today news broke that Dark Shadows actor Jonathan Frid had died, while TV legend Dick Clark passed away yesterday. Unfortunately, Levon Helm, one of the key figures of The Band and who had been battling throat cancer, died today at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City at the age of 71, less than a month before his birthday. Helm had been diagnosed with throat cancer in the late 1990s, undergoing radiation treatment that damaged his voice. Helm, who was the drummer for The Band and also sometimes lead singer, is best known for his deeply soulful and country twinged vocals on radio staples as "The Weight," "Up on Cripple Creek," and "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down." The Band, while never reaching massive success in terms of sales, was a critical and cult favorite of many to this day, and Helm was one of the fan favorites in the group [...] |
New Poster Reveals Why They Call It ‘Piranha 3DD’ Posted: 19 Apr 2012 01:00 PM PDT If there's anything that trailers for Piranha 3DD have taught us, it's that boobs, blood, and cheesy dialogue make for an excellent exploitation film. So why should any of the other promotional materials sell themselves short? A new poster for Piranha 3DD has been released, and even though there are a few Photoshop touches, it puts the boob portion of exploitation films in the spotlight. I can't be entirely sure whom the body belongs too, although I don't think it really matters considering what the movie is really about and considering that DD is in the title, I think the image is fitting for the poster [...] |
Posted: 19 Apr 2012 12:00 PM PDT The Troupe By Robert Jackson Bennett Published by Orbit Books Released February 21, 2012 Paperback | Kindle Holy Author of Creation! Robert Jackson Bennett's latest book, The Troupe, is the wondrous and heartrending tale of 16-year-old George Carole, a gifted pianist whose mother died in childbirth and who is on a quest to find the father he's never known. After reluctantly telling George that his father is in show business, he leaves his nagging grandmother to work at Otterman's theater in the hopes of finding him one day. As soon as he learns his father's traveling vaudeville troupe, The Famous Silenus Troupe, is performing in the nearby town of Parma, George quits his job and jumps on a train. What he notices first as he steps off the train is that tiny Parma is creepy. The quality of light is all wrong and there's an extra-dark darkness that hovers over the town. As he gets close to the hotel where the troupe is staying, George notices something else – all the sounds of the world die out and a mysterious man in a gray suit emerges from the thickening shadows. He heads straight for George and asks him about Heironimo Silenus [...] |

‘Dark Shadows’ Star Jonathan Frid Dies At 87 Posted: 19 Apr 2012 10:04 AM PDT Right on the heels of yesterday's death of icon Dick Clark, another death in the entertainment world has darkened our door. Jonathan Frid, who staked his claim on the supernatural and gothic ABC television serial Dark Shadows, has passed away from natural causes at Juravinski Hospital in his native hometown of Hamilton, Ontario in Canada, according to Digital Spy. He was 87 years old. Born on December 2, 1924, Frid served in the Royal Canadian Navy during World War II. A few years later, he received a Master of Fine Arts degree in Directing at Yale University. Classically trained, he spent 30 years in theater as well. The actor found success in his career, however, when he appeared as the vampire Barnabas Collins on Dark Shadows between 1966 and 1971, and was a cult hero to thousands of teenage kids, who made the program a hit [...] Right on the heels of yesterday's death of icon Dick Clark, another death in the entertainment world has darkened our door. New Game ‘Dishonored’ From Bethesda, Arkane Gets A Cinematic Trailer Posted: 19 Apr 2012 08:01 AM PDT A pretty insane new cinematic trailer has been released for Dishonored, the new game being developed by Arkane Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks.
