Jack White writing score for The Lone Ranger

Trent Reznor and Jonny Greenwood have been known to dabble in conducting a few notable soundtracks. Renzor, whose most recent work can be heard on David Fincher's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, earned himself an Academy Award for his work on Fincher's The Social Network. Though Greenwood's work for There Will be Blood was deemed ineligible for an Academy Award – due to use of pre-existing material - the soundtrack did earn itself a Grammy nomination for Best Score Soundtrack Album For Motion Picture, Television Or Other Visual Media.

Now its time for former White Stripes lead Jack White to step up and conduct the score for major a movie soundtrack. Disney Studios announced today that White will be making his first score conduction with the Gore Verbinski-directed The Lone Ranger [...]

Prey 2

Many fans of the video game Prey were pretty upset to find out that the game's sequel, Prey 2 (first announced back in March of 2011), might be getting killed off.

Bethesda Softworks, the company publishing the game that was being developed by Human Head Studios for a 2012 release, has now offered up an update on the sequel, mainly reaching out to all of the angry/saddened fans and offering them reassurance that Prey 2 is still happening...they're just now sure when it will be coming out anymore. Mel Gibson In Talks For Role In Robert Rodriguez’s ‘Machete’ Sequel

Machete Kills

In a strange bit of casting news, it's being reported that none other than Mel Gibson has entered into "serious discussions" for a role in the upcoming sequel to 2010's Machete, which will be titled Machete Kills.

Nothing is know about who Gibson might play, only that it would a supporting role.

The original movie had a slew of stars led by Danny Trejo as an ex-Federale with an affinity for blades who's betrayed by the man who hired him to assassinate a senator, leading him on a bloody path to revenge. [...]

Comic Review: The Goon #39

The Goon #39

The Goon #39
Created by Eric Powell
Art by Eric Powell
Colors by Dave Stewart
Dark Horse Comics
Release Date: April 25, 2011
Cover Price: $3.50

Eric Powell is unhappy with Marvel and DC. In fact, he is so annoyed by mainstream superhero comics that he wrote an entire issue about it. The Goon #39 seems to be the culmination of all of Powell's frustrations with hero comics and the comics industry in general. This issue is a deconstruction of everything that Powell feels is wrong with mainstream publisher's marketing techniques. Goon takes a break from cracking zombie skulls for an issue, and instead takes down the The Big Two. Powell attempts to bring every irritating thing about mainstream comics to light in this issue. The problem with this is, when you swing at every slow pitch, you are bound to miss a few [...]

Ashcan All-Stars Takes On ‘The Hunger Games’

Effie Trinket by Sara Pichelli

Ashcan All-Stars, an art blog where weekly topics are sent out to a group of professional artists to provide their unique take on characters from pop culture, is celebrating The Hunger Games this week, and it's already off to an amazing start.

So far, Ashcan All-Stars has two great additions to the collection with even more coming down the pipe. First is an Effie Trinket piece by Ultimate Spider-Man artist Sara Pichelli that's designed in the style of an Uncle Sam propaganda poster. Next, All-Star Western artist Moritat gives his interpretation of the star of the popular book, and now film, Katniss Everdeen. Moritat's take is more of a classic action pose of Katniss as she prepares her bow for the hunt. I really love both of these pieces, which are provided here below for your convenience, as I'm a huge fan of both artists and the content, and I'm even more excited to see other artists' interpretation of The Hunger Games [...]

The Rolling Stones Exile on Main Street

Johnny Depp Reveals The Inspiration Behind His Tonto Look In ‘The Lone Ranger’

Posted: 24 Apr 2012 09:00 AM PDT

The Lone Ranger

The release last month of the first image of Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer in character from next summer's big-budget western adventure The Lone Ranger didn't particularly set the world on fire. One of the major question marks surrounding the troubled production was how Depp would look as the Ranger's faithful Indian companion Tonto. In the months before the release of the first Pirates of the Caribbean, images of Depp in character as Captain Jack Sparrow led skeptics to believe the eclectic actor had gone off the deep end and the movie would be an epic bomb for Disney.

Instead Pirates was a blockbuster smash that finally made Depp a bona fide movie star and spawned a billion-dollar franchise for the Mouse House. It also established the quirky and roguish Captain Jack as the first iconic movie hero of the 21st century. Pretty soon the stylish swashbuckler would become a popular Halloween costume as well. Depp had taken an unusual approach in his ideas for the character's look, much to the consternation of studio executives already sweating over the movie's gargantuan (for 2002/3) budget and the nagging uncertainty of a pirate movie, much less one based on one of their famous theme park rides, but the gamble paid off handsomely [...]
