Free Comic Book Day Preview: FUBAR-The Devil’s Dance Floor Posted: 04 May 2012 08:58 PM PDT FUBAR-The Devil's Dance Floor Story and Art by Jeff McComsey Cover and Pin Ups by Steve Becker Fubar Press Release Date: May 5, 2012 (In-Stores) Release Date: April 17, 2012 (Digital Download) Cover Price: Free! I have to admit, at first the idea of reviewing a comic that will be coming out for free on Free Comic Book Day (FCBD) seemed odd to me. That is, until I realized just how many free-of-charge offerings will be up for grabs on FCBD. FUBAR: The Devil's Dance Floor is one of those offerings, and with no price tag, this comic is a no-brainer when it comes to picking up comics on FCBD. It is not stretch to say that the zombie genre has been done to "death" in comics. However, with the hordes of zombie comics that lurch their way onto shop shelves every week, there is at least one that stands above the rest. FUBAR: The Devil's Dance Floor seems to intentionally go out of its way to avoid tired gross-out bits that are so commonly found in this type of comic, and instead focuses on an interesting story [...] |

You can check out a trailer at the bottom of this post. [...] |
Watch Now: Heavy Metal ‘Star Wars’ Medley Posted: 04 May 2012 08:00 PM PDT The other day told you about a heavy metal cover of the Doctor Who theme song as performed by YouTube user 331Erock (check it out here). With today being May The 4th, a happy day for all Star Wars fans, we thought we'd turn your attention to Erock's mash-up of metal and Star Wars. Check out the video here below. It's more than just a "cover," it's an awesome shred-fest! He also has metal covers of Game of Thrones, Back to the Future, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles up on YouTube, plus an EP of original tunes called Hollywood Shredded available for purchase at iTunes. May The 4th Be With You! [...] |
May The 4th Be With You: My Favorite ‘Star Wars’ Moment Posted: 04 May 2012 07:00 PM PDT In the script for Return of the Jedi, it's listed as 78 EXT IMPERIAL LANDING PLATFORM - LOWER DECK 78, but to me it's more than just a landing platform on the forest moon of Endor. This is my favorite Star Wars moment - a scene that has inspired and influenced me more than any lightsaber duel or space battle in George Lucas's sprawling space saga. Darth Vader walks down the ramp of his Imperial shuttle onto the platform, into an elevator, and appears on a lower level. He is met by two stormtroopers and an Imperial commander with Luke Skywalker, in binders. The young Jedi gazes at the Dark Lord of the Sith with complete calm. "This is a Rebel that surrendered to us. Although he denies it, I believe there may be more of them, and I request permission to conduct a further search of the area." The commander extends his hand, revealing Luke's lightsaber. "He was armed only with this." [...] |
Comic Review: Star Wars Omnibus: The Other Sons Of Tatooine Posted: 04 May 2012 06:00 PM PDT Star Wars Omnibus: The Other Sons Of Tatooine Written by Jeremy Barlow, Mike W. Barr, Paul Chadwick, Michael A. Stackpole, Randy Stradley, Rob Williams Art by Brandon Badeaux, Christian Dalla Vecchia, Gary Erskine, Davidé Fabbri, Wil Glass, Douglas Wheatley Colors by Michael Atiyeh, Chris Chuckry, Neziti Domenico, Davidé Fabbri, Dave Nestelle Cover Art by Kilian Plunkett and Brad Anderson Dark Horse Comics Release Date: April 3, 2012 Cover Price: $24.99 There have been countless additions to the stories in the Expanded Star Wars Universe over the last couple of decades, and Dark Horse has long touted some of the finest comic stories of the galaxy far, far away. However, very few come along that have the power and potential of being so good that it could be conceivable to imagine a film or television version of the tale. The compendium represented in The Other Sons Of Tatooine is one of these rare pleasures, showcasing some of the exceptional storytelling focusing on Star Wars. The conception behind The Other Sons Of Tatooine is simple: to focus on the characters from Tatooine other than Luke Skywalker who have had major impacts on the in-universe history of the saga. The first, an obvious selection to adapt, is Biggs Darklighter, first performed by Garrick Hagon in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. The second, a creation within the Expanded Universe, is Janek Sunber aka Tank – who does not appear in A New Hope, but is mentioned by Mark Hamill in the scene where the Lars Farm purchases the droids [...] |

Identify ‘Star Wars’ Darth Vader Actor In This 1977 ‘To Tell The Truth’ Clip Posted: 04 May 2012 01:04 PM PDT In 1977, right after the original Star Wars made its debut in the theaters with lines around the block as audiences couldn't whet their appetite enough about viewing the trials and tribulations in the galaxy that was oh so far away all that time ago, the first wave of pop culture fallout started. While it's totally taken for granted now that tons and tons of Star Wars goods exist today, physical confections in all shapes and sizes, from T-shirts to action figures, to cereal bowls, towels, and Lego sets to video games for all platforms which have become commonplace by way of large, sprawling department stores around the globe, in 1977, the marketing blitz had just begun, and it was waters tested slowly, which eventually built to financial fever pitch for all involved in it. To participate in today's Star Wars celebratory "May The 4th Be With You" and right on the heels of the film's 35th Anniversary on May 25th, comes a rather rare and fun clip from 1977 from the television game show To Tell The Truth, in which a panel of B-grade celebrities had to guess who a real person was among three -- the one out of three who actually did the endeavor or the skill or the task mentioned by the game show moderator before the guessing game is played [...] |

Beastie Boys’ Adam Yauch Dead At 48 Posted: 04 May 2012 10:53 AM PDT Yet another death in the musical world has beset upon us. One of the founders of the legendary music trio The Beastie Boys has passed. Adam Yauch, best known as MCA to fans of the Caucasian hip hop band, died after a battle with cancer, from a complication of a tumor found in his salivary gland, reports Rolling Stone. He was 48. The Beastie Boys, comprised of Yauch, along with Mike "Mike D" Diamond and Adam "Ad-Rock" Horowitz, carved their own niche during the tail end of rap music's first wave. Starting as a hardcore punk band in 1979, the Brooklyn, NY-based group became best known as the goofy nonsensically yet no-nonsense hip hop mavens who exploded in a huff of success with their 1986 release License to Ill. That record, and its accompanying single and perpetually run MTV video of "Fight For Your Right (To Party)", put them as equal cohorts with their peers and like-minded artists during that era in the rap/hip hop ring, even surpassing many of those other artists who explored similar styles and genres [...] |
Exclusive: Jill Thompson Cover For Dark Horse’s ‘Beasts Of Burden: Neighborhood Watch’ Posted: 04 May 2012 10:00 AM PDT Dark Horse Comics has announced the release of Beasts Of Burden: Neighborhood Watch, a one-shot collecting three short short stories by Evan Dorkin and Jill Thompson, and we have an exclusive look at Thompson's cover, which you can view here below. The Eisner Award-winning team bring back some of their most beloved characters in this one-shot, which features the gang of neighborhood pets battling a chicken-stealing goblin, a basilisk, and helping a strange, lost heard of sheep find their way. As usual with Beasts Of Burden, things don't go so easily. The stories can be fun, humorous, and heartwarming as much as they can be twisted, frightening, and heart-breaking. All these reasons are why I love this comic and this cast of characters. If you haven't checked out Beasts Of Burden: Animal Rites, it won't be a necessity to follow the events of Neighborhood Watch, which was originally released in Dark Horse Presents, although I highly recommend it if you enjoy good comics [...] |
