Unexplained mysteries, no matter how radical or bizarre, have always been, to some extent, an obsessive interest of mine. Things like Roswell 1947 or The Zodiac Killer have fascinated me – both with the factual evidence available, and the speculative theories offered from both believers and questioners alike. Both examples cited have had their share of fictional representation in media, but the mystery of D. B. Cooper has yet to have a central role in stories… until now.

While some fans may protest that the television series Prison Break had the Cooper mystery involved, it was not the central focus of the story. Finally, the enigma has entered the universe of comic books in a starring role, with Oni Press' The Secret History of D. B. Cooper, affording a wildly speculative adventure mixing science fiction with espionage and psychedelic overtones [...]

Watch Now: ‘Neighborhood Watch’ Gets A New Title & A Red-Band Trailer

Posted: 05 May 2012 06:01 PM PDT

The Watch

20th Century Fox's upcoming sci-fi comedy Neighborhood Watch hit a huge marketing roadblock following the killing of Florida youth Trayvon Martin at the hands of George Zimmerman, a member of a neighborhood watch whose motives for shooting Martin remain under close scrutiny. The Martin killing took place not long after the first trailer for Neighborhood Watch had been released, depicting the movie's heroes driving around cocking their fingers like guns at local kids wearing hooded sweatshirts.

Not wanting to have their harmless yet profane genre-bending summer offering associated with the Martin killing, the studio decided to change the name of the movie and this weekend has released the first full trailer for the newly-titled The Watch. You can watch it here below [...]

The Elder Scrolls Online

Now that Bethesda has officially announced their long-rumored Elder Scrolls MMO, The Elder Scrolls Online, they're not wasting any time getting the word out to the masses.

The company behind The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Fallout 3, and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, has released the first teaser trailer for The Elder Scrolls Online.

The trailer is similar to the first trailer for Skyrim, not showing a whole lot of anything but combining voiceover and epic music to trigger your excitement. [...]

‘Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol’ Director Brad Bird To Team With Damon Lindelof For ’1952′

Brad Bird

Director Brad Bird has a thing for years, as it would appear. The two-time Oscar winning director of such animated hits as The Iron Giant, The Incredibles, and Ratatouille, made his move to live-action pictures with news that he would direct 1906, a movie about the devastating San Francisco earthquake that hit that year. But before he got around to that movie, he decided to step away and direct the recent action blockbuster Mission: Impossible -- Ghost Protocol.

Bird is now adding yet another year-titled project to his to-do list. [...]

Sharlto Copley To Star Opposite Of Angelina Jolie In Disney’s ‘Maleficent’

Maleficent

Back in April it was first reported that Sharlto Copley, star of District 9 and The A-Team, was in talks to play the villain in Spike Lee's remake of Oldboy. This week that casting was officially confirmed, and now the actor is adding more new projects to his to-do list.

It's being reported that Copley has entered into negotiations to play the male lead in Maleficent, the Walt Disney retelling of the Sleeping Beauty fable that focuses on the evil villain. [...]

Originally Released: December 4, 2001

When Netflix added nearly all of the Classic Albums series to their streaming collection last week, it was inevitable that I would draw attention to the series in this review. The big question for me was: which Classic Albums episode do I review? Being a music geek, and especially (first and foremost) a Metal Head, the choice was incredibly tough. With bands such as Metallica, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Motörhead, Rush, and many more among the features now online, it took me a while before I settled on a title.

Favorably rated as one of the most memorable and cornerstone albums in Metal history, Iron Maiden: The Number Of The Beast now seems, in retrospect, the appropriate selection for this review. The band is frequently cited as one of the fundamental acts that bolstered the genre of metal, having blasted onto the scene among the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal – and they continue onwards to this day, renewing their legacy with new releases that strengthen their music identity [...]

The Drill Down 232: Double Irish With a Dutch Sandwich

Posted: 05 May 2012 12:10 PM PDT

This week, The Drill Down team (and Techmeme's Lidija Davis) discusses Barnes & Noble's new partnership with Microsoft to compete with Amazon's Kindle & Apple's iPad, and later we discuss a development which could spell the end for Digg.com, one of the most venerated social news sites on the internet.

But first the headlines...CISPA passes the House (and how that will affect you), Apple sidesteps billions in taxes, The Pirate Bay must be blocked in the UK, Blackberry launches version 10 OS, Facebook adds organ donor status to profiles. [...]
