Rebecca Hall Replaces Jessica Chastain In ‘Iron Man 3′

Posted: 09 May 2012 08:40 PM PDT

Rebecca Hall

Earlier today it was reported that Jessica Chastain had opted not to take on the "sexy scientist" role she was said to be up for in Iron Man 3. Not wasting any time, it looks like director Shane Black and company had another actress on stand by.

According to sources, Rebecca Hall is now in negotiations to play the character Chastain was lined up for. Apart from the brief description indicating that the character would be an attractive scientist type who's just as smart as Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark character, all that's known is that this will be a supporting role. Marion Cotillard Says She’s NOT Playing Talia Al Ghul In ‘The Dark Knight Rises’

Posted: 09 May 2012 06:09 PM PDT

Marion Cotillard

A shroud of secrecy always surrounds movies such as The Dark Knight Rises. There are always those annoying rumors that swirl around that says this actor will play this character. Of course those who are in the cast cannot elaborate on whom they will be playing because studios have highly trained snipers pointing a red dot at their forehead.

So these actors either go with a diverting ploy or just flat out deny that they are not playing whomever they are rumored to play - which is fine. But the worst thing they can do is lie. Such as that with Marion Cotillard, who has said that she is playing Talia AL Ghul in the past, is now "confirming" that she will NOT play the daughter of Ra's Al Ghul – who will be played by a returning Liam Neeson [...]

Joss Whedon Thanks His Fans With A Remarkably Hilarious Open Letter

Posted: 09 May 2012 04:30 PM PDT

Joss Whedon

If you were the one of many who contributed to the $700 million that The Avengers has grossed so far, director Joss Whedon would like to personally thank you - the fans, both old and new ones alike. Sure there were those who questioned Marvel's decision to hire someone who had a number of television series cancelled. But devoted fans stuck by him and it's because of him and his passion that The Avengers is the huge success that it is today.

So Whedon wrote one hilarious thank you letter and posted it Whedonesque. In the letter he thanks his fans, appreciates that he can buy a real meal [with truffles], and is awaiting the green light from a studio to reboot Air Bud. Like I said, a hilarious thank you letter. Hopefully we will hear of Whedon signing on to write and direct the sequel after he comes back from his well-deserved break. You can read all of that and more below [...]

Comic Review: G.I. Joe #13

GI Joe 13

G.I. Joe #13
Written by Chuck Dixon
Art by Will Rosado
Colors by Romulo Farjado, Jr.
Letters by Neil Uyetake
Editors: John Barber & Carlos Guzman
Covers by Will Rosado & Tommy Lee Edwards
IDW Publishing
Release Date: May 9, 2012
Cover Price: $3.99

G.I. Joe #13 is one of the best issues of the title that I've read in a while. The dust from the Cobra Command crossover has settled, and there's a new status quo for the G.I. Joe team. One that's not really all that great, actually. It's nice to have the Joes being the underdogs for a change.

Writer Chuck Dixon has been running the G.I. Joe universe for quite some time now, and he and the audience, are quite comfortable with that, as he's doing a great job. He consistently delivers fresh, easily accessible stories that are both entertaining and exciting. This issue is no exception. You have Cobra with the upper hand, the Joes behind the 8-ball and off on a mission that they really can't afford. Literally. To make matters worse, the Joes have been exposed to the world at large. So, things are quite tense for America's freedom fighters, as you can imagine. This issue is solid, action packed, and fun to read. Everything you want in an issue of G.I. Joe! [...]

Comic Review: Alabaster: Wolves #2

Art and Letters by Steve Lieber
Colors by Rachelle Rosenberg
Cover by Greg Ruth
Designer Amy Arendts
Dark Horse Comics
Release Date: May 9, 2012
Cover Price: $3.50

Suddenly, from out of nowhere, a strange title pounced out of Dark Horse last month and leaped onto comic review sites (including this very one), causing critics to shout their approval for Alabastor: Wolves. People spoke of the art by Steve Lieber and the writing (the dialogue in particular) by Caitlín R. Kiernan as being strong and fresh and unique. What particularly piqued my interest, however, was just how vague folks were in describing what actually happens in the book. Most reviews I read went something like this: "It's about a little Albino girl who speaks with a southern drawl, walking a wasteland filled with werewolves and other monsters, who talks to a bird and an angel who tells her who to kill. Oh, and she might be crazy."

"Heck," I thought, "I can describe a comic better then that." [...]

New ‘Prometheus’ Featurette Focuses On The Origins Of Humanity

Posted: 09 May 2012 01:34 PM PDT

Prometheus

Any and all forthcoming Prometheus featurettes and trailers should now be considered spoilerish. If you are in the group that loves to see anything and everything about Ridley Scott's upcoming movie, then by all means watch the following trailer. However, if you are of the group that doesn't like to be spoiled, then turn back now and read a different article (like this one about today's new comic books!).

The new featurette (which you can watch here below), appropriately titled "Origins," focuses on the search for the beginning of humanity and how their search leads them to the planet, which can spell the demise of the new space explorers. Ridley Scott, co-screenwriter Damon Lindelof, and actress Noomi Rapace talk about their experiences both in front and behind the cameras. But out of all the Prometheus featurettes we have seen in the past, this one seems to be the least bit spoilerly. Still the new Prometheus featurette is worth a look [...]

Watch The Trailer For The ‘Jaws’ Blu-ray

Posted: 09 May 2012 12:33 PM PDT

It's been almost a month since Universal Studios Home Entertainment made the big announcement that Steven Spielberg's classic killer shark horror-adventure Jaws would be making it's long-anticipated debut on Blu-ray later this summer.

Today the studio has released a trailer for the upcoming release. You can watch it here below.

The original - and still one of the best - summer blockbuster event movie is getting a complete video and audio upgrade for its Blu-ray bow. The film has undergone a full frame by frame digital restoration from original 35mm film elements and the soundtrack has been extensively remastered in DTS-HD 7.1 Master Audio, all supervised and approved by Spielberg himself [...]

Comic Review: The Walking Dead #97

The Walking Dead 97

The Waling Dead #97
Written by Robert Kirkman
Art by Charlie Adlard and Cliff Rathburn
Image Comics
Release Date: May 9, 2012
Cover Price: $2.99

The Walking Dead #97 is the first issue in the highly anticipated "Something To Fear" story arc, which was announced back in February. Death and destruction are coming for Rick and the survivors and writer Robert Kirkman has made it clear that this time, there is a lot to lose. For several issues now, Kirkman has been building to this moment through a series of brash decisions made by his protagonists. The coming storm is the result of those decisions and to quote Wyatt Earp, "You called down the thunder, well now you've got it."

When people speak about The Walking Dead, inevitably someone will bring up the point that "it is not really about zombies." There is definitely some truth to that statement, especially in light of the comic's current events. Issue after issue, Rick and his gang have become increasingly desperate. It is obvious that after all the loss and death, that there would be a breaking point for the survivors. In the past few issues Kirkman has depicted this despair as Rick's veiled grasp at optimism. With food running low and winter coming the survivors have been backed into a corner. As it is with most threatened animals, instead of finding a way to escape, they simply attack [...]

New TV Spot For ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ 4-Minute Super Preview

Posted: 09 May 2012 11:00 AM PDT

The Amazing Spider-Man

Before we saw The Avengers, a trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man appeared, and it was an amazing trailer and probably the most convincing reason as to why you should watch the movie in 3D. Now Sony Pictures has released a teaser for their 4-minute preview that will debut on Monday, May 14th, with the season premiere of America's Got Talent.

The teaser doesn't offer any new footage, but I suspect there will be a few things to look out for during the preview when it airs next week. As a huge fan of Spider-Man, I cannot wait to see this movie and I am certain that this will reestablish the Spider-Man name after the horrendous Spider-Man 3. You can check out the TV spot for the 4-minute preview below [...]

Comic Review: Batman, Vol. 1: The Court Of Owls Hardcover

Posted: 09 May 2012 10:00 AM PDT

Batman: The Court of Owls HC by Greg Capullo Batman Vol. 1: The Court of Owls
Written by Scott Snyder
Pencils by Greg Capullo
Inks by Jonathan Glapion
Colors by FCO
Letters by Richard Starkings and Comicraft's Jimmy Betancourt
DC Comics
Release Date: May 9, 2012
Cover Price: $24.99

Batman: The Court of Owls is a deconstruction of Batman and Bruce Wayne's vision of Gotham City. The DC Relaunch provided a landscape in which writers and artists had a way to completely recreate characters and the DC Universe as a whole into their vision. Scott Snyder doesn't exactly do this. The Court of Owls works as both a perfect starting place for new readers to comics as well as experienced readers who have kept up through the Grant Morrison saga and Snyder's work on Detective Comics. Characters created and explored during that time period are even featured in the opening pages of this book, so it's not a title that completely ignores its past, which, whether on purpose or not, parallels the concept of this book. And this book is quite simply a masterpiece.

In Court of Owls, Scott Snyder tells a story of how the past of Gotham City, a past unbeknownst to The Batman, has come to haunt The Dark Knight in a way that no one, other than Snyder, could have ever imagined [...]
