Michael Madsen Revives Mr. Blonde Persona To Help With An Alamo Drafthouse PSA

Posted: 11 May 2012 05:00 PM PDT

Alamo Drafthouse

I thoroughly enjoy the Alamo Drafthouse's PSAs. They are ballsy and hilarious. But they do address a very important point in a digital age. Don't talk or text during a movie. Sounds simple enough, but there are those theater patrons continue to ignore this request and should you make the unfortunate decision to text or talk during the movie at the Alamo Drafthouse, the theater chain isn't afraid of taking swift action. Unfortunately, there are competing theater chains that run these campy requests to cease texting and talking during the movie, and for the most part, they are ignored.

But this is why the Alamo Drafthouse has a huge following. Their strict no talking or texting policy allows patrons to enjoy the movie, without being bothered by fingers clicking to text or the huge ray of light being emitted by their cell phones. So to make sure that they are getting their point across, they create hilarious PSAs.

We've seen a couple of these PSAs in the past and judging by the huge following that the Drafthouse has, it works. Of course there are those who choose to ignore these requests, and if you don't know what happens, well you should probably check out the video below [...]

Lumiya, Dark Lady of the Sith! The Nagai! Zeltrons!

Does that make me seem too overexcited for this review?

Well then, go to buggery if it does, because my, oh, my, Star Wars Omnibus: A Long Time Ago, Volume 5 is an extraordinary trip down memory lane for those of us Star Wars fans old enough to remember the closing era of the Marvel Star Wars.

The fifth part of the A Long Time Ago Omnibus reprints the final series of issues originally released by Marvel Comics – from Issue #86 August 1984 to Issue #107 September 1986. The collection represents the closing period of Marvel's Star Wars publication, in a post Return Of The Jedi era as the Expanded Universe (as it was during that time) would begin to wane. It would not be until 5 years later when Timothy Zahn would release Heir To The Empire, his first episode of The Thrawn Trilogy, that enthusiasm would return to the Expanded Universe with a new level of enthusiasm from fans old and new [...]

‘Moonrise Kingdom’ Cast Praises Wes Anderson’s Genius In New Featurette

Posted: 11 May 2012 03:00 PM PDT

Moonrise Kingdom

Focus Features has released a three-minute behind the scenes featurette for Wes Anderson's upcoming romantic comedy Moonrise Kingdom. Though the film focuses on the runaway romance between two children, the featurette focuses mostly on the film's adult cast: Bruce Willis, Tilda Swinton, Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Frances McDormand, and Jason Schwartzman.

In the video they talk about their experiences working on the set of Moonrise Kingdom and about Anderson's directing style. You get to see what it was like on the set of the film. The gorgeous simplicity of the set pieces and the beautiful locations that Anderson chose is exactly why Moonrise Kingdom is one of my top ten highly anticipated films of 2012 [...]

Spawn #220 by Chris Giarrusso header

Image Comics announced a wealth of 20th anniversary variant covers for the upcoming Spawn #220, including an adorable cover by all-ages friendly cartoonist Chris Giarrusso, which you can view here below.

Spawn #220 marks the return of Spawn creator Todd McFarlane to the series as he takes on writing duties while Szymon Kudranski handles art. The Chris G. variant stands out, but is only one of the many variants to celebrate Image's anniversary. McFarlane will be providing two himself, including "Savage Spawn," an homage to Erik Larsen's first issue of Savage Dragon and "Youngblood Spawn," which pays tribute to Rob Liefeld's Youngbloods [...]

First Hilarious Trailer For Jay Roach’s Politically Charged Comedy ‘The Campaign’

Posted: 11 May 2012 01:00 PM PDT

The Campaign

After helming a couple of decent comedies like Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery and Meet the Parents, director Jay Roach moved towards directing HBO's political dramas like Recount and Game Change. Now, the director is combining all of that in The Campaign, starring Will Ferrell and Zack Galifianakis, and the first trailer for this politically charged comedy is now online.

We recently posted the political attack ads from both parties, but that was nothing when compared to how hysterical this trailer is. From catering to the most awkward groups and ritual snake biting to punching babies and having no sympathy after doing so, The Campaign is looking like it will be a hit comedy in a season that is surrounded by action blockbusters. You can check out the trailer below [...]

The Creators Of ‘Epic Movie’ To Parody ‘The Hunger Games In ‘The Starving Games’

Posted: 11 May 2012 11:00 AM PDT

Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer

Aaron Seltzer and Jason Friedberg, those directing geniuses who brought you movie spoofs such as Date Movie, Epic Movie, Disaster Movie, etc., are coming back to write and direct The Starving Games, obviously a hilarious stab at the hit movie The Hunger Games. Like their previous films, the movie will also incorporate elements from recent blockbusters such as The Avengers, Sherlock Holmes, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. There could be more humorous takes on blockbuster films, but these are just a few of the films that Variety mentions in their report.

Let's face it: Seltzer and Friedberg don't deliver the highest quality of filmmaking, in fact all of their films have been movies that make fun of other filmmakers. But to me, they really set the bar low on filmmaking. Out of all the films they have written, directed, and produced, all but two has received a double digit rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and even then that movie was still rotten. And some how studios keep finding a way to finance and distribute their films [...]

Doom Digest: ‘Dark Shadows’ Edition

Doom Digest

Every day here at Doom HQ we receive tons of tips from our readers about really cool stuff from the world of geek, as well as promotional materials for new films, comic books, collectibles, and much more. While we do our best to bring you as much of it as possible, we don't always have enough geek manpower available to cover it all on a daily basis. But we hate the idea of all of this really cool stuff wasting away in our inbox. How could we NOT cover it? Hence why we've resurrected our long-defunct column Bits Of Doom, now rebranded and revamped as Doom Digest, a collection of easily digestible bits of news, videos, photos, and other goodies.

Today sees the release of Tim Burton's big-screen adaptation of the 1960s gothic soap opera Dark Shadows, therefore, honor of this event, we're dedicating this edition of Doom Digest to all things Dark Shadows [...]

"His name was Barnabas Collins, and he was the finest man this family ever knew."

With its unique blend of gothic intrigue, romance, and melodrama, Dark Shadows staked the soap opera status quo in the heart in the late 1960s. The series, which ran from 1966-1971, was unprecedented in daytime television for its supernatural stories filled with vampires, ghosts, witches, werewolves, and the occasional zombie or warlock. My mother would race home from high school to watch Dark Shadows, hypnotized into submission by Barnabus Collins (Jonathan Frid), 18th-century vampire and master of Collinwood Manor. With its blood-and-thunder performances and atmospheric interiors, Dark Shadows became a pop culture phenomena with 1,225 television episodes and numerous films, novels, comics, and audio dramas dedicated to the Collins family.

For those dying to revisit the creaky, cobwebbed halls of Collinwood Manor, director Tim Burton (Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood) has resurrected Dark Shadows as a 113-minute gothic comedy, written by New York Times best-selling novelist Seth Grahame-Smith (Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter) [...]
