The ‘Battleship’ Movie May Sink, But The Classic Board Game Will Live On Posted: 17 May 2012 07:15 PM PDT Battleship opens this Friday in theaters around the country. The big budget film hopes to do the same kind of business at the box office that other blockbusters, like The Hunger Games and The Avengers, have already done this year. Unfortunately, the word out now for this "aliens attack a naval fleet" picture hasn't been as good as it was for those other two aforementioned films. However, what can be agreed upon by all is the source the film is based on -- the classic Battleship board game, which scores of generations weaned themselves on in their youth. The fun guessing game which is played head-to-head, utilizing four grids (two for each player) as players secretly arrange their naval ships strategically on the grid, as the other player tries to guess where they are, one grid square by one grid square at a time, until they in essence "attack" their opponents ships. The first player to conquer and destroy all their opponents' ships wins the game [...] |
Warner Bros. Sets Release Date For Tom Tykwer and Wachowski Siblings’ ‘Cloud Atlas’ Posted: 17 May 2012 06:22 PM PDT When Tom Tykwer and Andy & Lana Wachowski completed the principal photography for the adaptation of David Mitchell's Cloud Atlas in late December, it had no distributor. But that's why we have film festivals like the one being held at Cannes. According to Thompson on Hollywood, Warner Bros. has picked up the distribution rights for Cloud Atlas for $20 million, and will release the movie on December 6th, which is the perfect time to release a movie if you are aiming for some awards. But what makes Cloud Atlas so ambitious is that it will have multiple stories taking place in multiple generations with multiple characters involved. The film stars Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Hugo Weaving, Ben Whishaw, Susan Sarandon, Jim Broadbent, Hugh Grant, and Bae Doona, all of whom will be playing these multiple characters in these stories that span generations [...] |
Andre 3000 To Star As Jimi Hendrix In Biopic Posted: 17 May 2012 05:07 PM PDT Andre 3000, best known as one half of the hip hop pop duo OutKast, known for their smash hit "Hey Ya," is set to portray Jimi Hendrix in an upcoming biopic which will focus on the legendary guitar player's life in England in just before he recorded Are You Experienced?. That album was released in 1967 and changed the game of rock and roll forever, propelling Hendrix into the superstar stratosphere in the process. Plagued by a few setbacks and loopholes from the Jimi Hendrix estate, the project has finally been greenlit and is due to start shooting in a few weeks in Wickow County and Dublin in Ireland, reports the Irish TV Network (via Rolling Stone) [...] |
Leonard Nimoy Wanted To Play Both Spock and Sybok In ‘Star Trek V’ Posted: 17 May 2012 04:00 PM PDT The biggest part of Star Trek V: The Final Frontier is that we meet Sybok, the Vulcan half-brother to Starfleet officer Spock, played by Leonard Nimoy. In the film, directed by William Shatner (Captain Kirk in the TV and movie franchise), Sybok is played by Laurence Luckinbill, who in a recent interview with StarTrek.com revealed that Nimoy had wanted to appear in the film as both Spock and Sybok. Luckinbill said that he was told that Nimoy thought it should be a dual role, with Nimoy acting for both characters. Since the characters weren't twins, Shatner decided against that. Luckinbill said he felt that that decision was taken out on him in the beginning of filming [...] |
Geek Peek: Liam Neeson Hasn’t Lost His Touch In These New ‘Taken 2′ Images Posted: 17 May 2012 03:05 PM PDT Liam Neeson is living proof that no matter how old you are, you can still kick ass (hopefully Bruce Willis can do that with A Good Day to Die Hard) and if you need any evidence of it, well we've got three brand new photos of the actor doing just that in the upcoming sequel to his 2008 hit, Taken 2. But director Olivier Megaton (Columbiana) is putting a spin on the Taken story. [...] |

Queen Of Disco Donna Summer Has Died Posted: 17 May 2012 12:07 PM PDT The great Queen of Disco music, Donna Summer, passed away today in Florida at the age of 63 after a battle with lung cancer. TMZ was the first to report the news, which was later confirmed by Summer's family. Regardless of one's opinion of her music, her style, or what one thinks of disco music in general, there is no denying that in her passing, comes an end of an era, an era which started in the post-Watergate 1970s, of fun escapism, of having a good times without pretenses, an era which continues to this day with the type of music where one doesn't have to think about or absorb its tenets, and just simply allows oneself to have a enjoyable excursion with it [...] |
Interview: Ex-Hollywood Undead Frontman Deuce Posted: 17 May 2012 11:00 AM PDT Some musicians are desperate to court controversy. They make self-conscious attempts to get under the skin of a target deemed a threat or make otherwise inflammatory comments about a bigger presence in their genre. On the other hand, there are musicians who do little to fan the flames as it were, but still carry labels such as 'trouble-maker' and 'notorious' like an albatross around their neck all because of a little honesty. Aron 'Deuce' Erlichman certainly falls into the second category. Leaping like a tattooed wrecking ball as the mastermind of masked rap-rock crew Hollywood Undead, Deuce went from nowhere to everywhere after the success of debut album, Swan Songs. Despite the success, all was not well within the ... Undead camp and soon after he left under an acrimonious cloud followed by a hailstorm of back-biting and trash-talking from his ex-band mates. Two years on and Deuce is back with a new collection of songs. Earlier this year he released the video to his new single, "America," from his forthcoming debut solo album Nine Lives. Once again things are starting to look up for Deuce, free of the creative and emotional restraints of the past: "I don't have anything holding me back now." [...] |
Daniel Craig Walks A Familiar Path In The ‘Skyfall’ Teaser Poster Posted: 17 May 2012 10:06 AM PDT Considering how long it has taken us to get a new James Bond film, you'd think the new teaser poster would be a bit more exciting. But considering that it is just a teaser poster, the limited amount of imagery seen in it, isn't all that surprising. A new poster for the 23rd installment of James Bond, titled Skyfall, has appeared online. Check out the poster below. And for any fan of the movies, the imagery is all too familiar. James Bond inside a gun barrel. Or could it represent the London underground tunnels. Without any other details present, we can't read too much into the poster. It is a teaser poser after all. But the dark tones should be an indication of which direction the film is heading towards. We could get a better picture of what Sam Mendes has been up to all this time when the trailer debuts on Monday, May 21st [...] |
Two New Actors Join Bruce Willis For ‘Die Hard 5′ Posted: 17 May 2012 09:00 AM PDT The cast of the fifth installment in the Die Hard franchise is coming together, with two new actors now jumping on board. It's being reported that Amaury Nolasco and Megalyn Echikunwoke have both joined the cast of the movie, which is titled A Good Day to Die Hard. They join star Bruce Willis, returning to the (hopefully once again vulgar) role of John McClane, with Spartacus: Blood and Sand star Jai Courtney co-starring as McClane's son, Jack. [...] |
