MGM Developing Remake Of ‘The Magnificent Seven’ With Tom Cruise Attached To Star

Posted: 21 May 2012 07:15 PM PDT

The Magnificent Seven

Since their near-death experience that put in danger numerous projects including The Hobbit and the newest James Bond flick, Skyfall, MGM has been busy concentrating on their remakes. Movies like RoboCop and Carrie are already well on their way, and now the studio is adding another significant title to the list.

It's being reported that MGM is developing a remake of the 1960 western classic The Magnificent Seven, with none other than Tom Cruise attached to star in one of the roles. [...]

‘The Master’ Teaser: P.T. Anderson’s Haunting New Film Blended With Jonny Greenwood’s Genius

Posted: 21 May 2012 05:38 PM PDT

The Master

It took a while to get to this point, but the first trailer for Paul Thomas Anderson's The Master has finally arrived. This is Anderson's first film since There Will Be Blood. Although the film focuses on a former soldier (Philip Seymour Hoffman) organizing a new faith-based organization after watching the hardships of war, the teaser focuses on the film's follower/drifter (played by Joaquin Phoenix). Check out the full teaser below.

Not once do we see Hoffman's character, instead we see a montage of clips of Phoenix's character being questioned by someone who is presumed to be his superior officer and although nothing drastic happens, some of the actions being committed will lead us to understand why he is gravitating towards Hoffman's new faith-based organization [...]

‘The Dark Knight Rises’ Poster: Batman Sees Red As Gotham Crumbles and Burns

Posted: 21 May 2012 04:00 PM PDT

The Dark Knight Rises Poster Header

Thanks to the power of Adobe Photoshop, the teaser poster for The Dark Knight Rises has been transformed into the brand new poster for the upcoming film. The poster sends a clear message that "the fire will rise" and Gotham City will fall at the hands of Bane. But the one person who will stop this catastrophe from happening is Batman (who seems to be standing in a very familiar pose). Check out the full poster image below.

The new poster debuted on the film's official Facebook page, so it's the only one that is available at the moment. A high resolution version of the poster should be available for your viewing pleasure soon, so we'll post that when it's released [...]

Sean Patrick Flanery Confirms ‘Boondock Saints 3′ Being Written Now

Sean Patrick Flanery and Sherilyn Fenn at Motor City Comic Con 2012

Among the plethora of media and comic stars that appeared at the 2012 Motor City Comic-Con this weekend, the biggest draw was by far Sean Patrick Flanery and David Della Rocco, stars of the cult classic film The Boondock Saints. Though originally slated to appear, Norman Reedus was unable to attend MCCC due to filming obligations for the third season of AMC's The Walking Dead. That left the two three-named stars to pose for pictures and sign autographs for hours on end. The only time "The Saints" seemed to step away from their table was to take part in a short discussion panel about cult classics with Sherilyn Fenn of Twin Peaks, James Duval of Donny Darko, and Patricia Quinn of The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

The panel itself got off to an awkward start as the lights remained off for the first 10 minutes and there was no microphone for audience members to use. But Flanery kept things going by sharing humorous stories about his Boondock Saints co-stars and fielding questions to the other guests when it appeared the audience was mostly there for him [...]

The conclusion to Agent of the Empire has arrived, and delivers superbly. With some minor appearances from a couple of familiar characters, and the main protagonist Jahan Cross fulfilling his role as a version of 007 in that galaxy far, far away, Agent Of The Empire - Iron Eclipse is a tale worth Star Wars fans spending some attention on.

In the long chronicle of the Expanded Star Wars Universe, a majority of the stories have often been about the "heroes" we've known fighting some "new threat" or "new villains." In Agent of the Empire, we have a fine example of what the contemporary creative talents driving the EU works are trying to achieve – mixing up known loved genres with the Star Wars galaxy as a backdrop [...]

‘Anchorman 2′ Teasers: Ron Burgundy Promises He Will Be On Top

Anchorman: The Legend Continues

Although the teaser trailer for Anchorman: The Legend Continues was leaked early last week, I didn't feel it was proper to bring you a trailer that was in poor quality... and leaked. Luckily the teaser trailers for the upcoming sequel has popped online today and you can take a look it here below. The Funny or Die teaser is a bit different from the one that was attached to The Dictator, but I think we could care less how different the two teasers are.

Like the teaser trailer for Skyfall, these teasers for the Anchorman sequel is effective and doesn't need to go into detail about the plot – maybe that's because news of a sequel broke in March. It also sets the tone by reminding us what makes this news team (Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd, Steve Carell, and David Koechner) so hilarious. Everyone has their own hilarious phrase, except Brick of course, who seems to have trouble finding the words [...]

Deal: ‘Pride and Prejudice and Zombies’ – 30 Postcards For $1.74!

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies postcards

We've written a lot about Quirk's Pride and Prejudice and Zombies books in the past few years and it happens to be one of my favorite mash-ups ever -- AND, let's face it, that first book pretty much launched the zombie mash-up genre.

I recently noticed that Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: 30 Postcards, which is a postcard book with illustrations based on the book, is on sale right now for only $2.14 - that's 78% off the list price of $9.95!

Now, even if you're not a huge fan of zombies or Jane Austen, you have to admit, $2.14 for 30 postcards is an awesome price. I looked around and this set is sold out in most places, and the vendors that do have it are selling it for the full price [...]

Starring Joel Murray, Tara Lynne Barr, Mackenzie Brooke Smith, and Regan Burns
Magnolia Pictures/Magnet Releasing

The Story

Frank (Joel Murray) is a divorced insurance salesman who lives alone in a house with walls so thin he can hear the wailing of his next door neighbor'2s baby day and night. His own daughter (Mackenzie Brooke Smith) wants nothing to do with him and is being increasingly spoiled by her ineffectual mother (Melinda Page Hamilton). Suffering from insomnia and migraines Frank does nothing with his life but sit in front of his television every night and subject himself to endless hours of horrid commercials, mind-numbing reality shows where pampered rich teenage girls throw profane-laden tantrums when they don't get the car they want for their birthday, and the insane ramblings of right-wing talk show hosts (Regan Burns and Frank Conniff) who sees nothing but hatred and fear in everything and anything. One day his entire life falls apart: a misunderstood act of affection at work leads to the loss of his job, and then his doctor informs him - in between taking ill-timed calls on his cell - that the reason he's getting migraines is because he has an inoperable brain tumor [...]

Every day here at Doom HQ we receive tons of tips from our readers about really cool stuff from the world of geek, as well as promotional materials for new films, comic books, collectibles, and much more. Watch The Teaser Trailer For Sam Mendes’ New James Bond Film ‘Skyfall’

Posted: 21 May 2012 08:05 AM PDT

Skyfall

Most teaser trailers are forgettable, useless, and fail to deliver an increase in anticipation. Apparently Sony didn't get that memo, as the first trailer for Sam Mendes' Skyfall has arrived. You can watch it here below.

Rather than give too much or too little, the teaser is on point, sending the right kinds of tones. The best part about this trailer is that we don't even get a look at Javier Bardem, instead we see his shadowy figure engulfed in flames.

So with no clue about the plot, the villain, or what the hell Skyfall is, I'd say that this was a very effective teaser trailer. And for those who haven't been following the status of the movie, here's the very vague plot description [...]
