Comic Review: Lord of the Jungle Annual #1 Posted: 22 May 2012 07:00 PM PDT Lord of the Jungle Annual #1 Written by Mark Rahner Illustrated by Sergio Fernandez Davila Colors by Santosh Kumar Rath Letters by Simon Bowland Based on the stories of Edgar Rice Burroughs Cover by Lucio Parrilo Dynamite Entertainment Release Date: May 23, 2012 Cover Price: $4.99 Lord of the Jungle Annual #1 is a good read for anyone that's a fan of Edgar Rice Burroughs or Tarzan in general. It's a classic story that some of you might be familiar with, but entertaining nonetheless. Writer Mark Rahner brings us Tarzan's first trip to civilization! And believe me, it's a really fun read. There's been many versions of this story told in countless media, but it's your classic fish out of water story, with a couple of great twists thrown in for good measure [...] |
‘The Great Gatsby’ Trailer Encapsulates The Lights and Sounds of Fitzgerald’s Novel Posted: 22 May 2012 07:00 PM PDT Baz Luhrmann certainly has a knack for spectacular music and equally spectacular visuals. From Moulin Rouge to his adaptation of William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet, Luhrmann has never sold anything short and put out more than a 110% in his movies. Now the first trailer for Luhrmann's big-screen adaptation The Great Gatsby has arrived, and while it capture's spirit of F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel visually, the music queues can come into question. Watch the trailer here below. But it's not like the music can bring the film down, not with a cast that consists of Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Carrie Mulligan, Isla Fisher, and Joel Edgerton. A lot of the bright lights, fashion, and set pieces are something you would expect to see in a Luhrmann film [...] |
TV Review: Game Of Thrones 2.8: A Prince of Winterfell Posted: 22 May 2012 06:00 PM PDT Game of Thrones Season Two, Episode 8 – A Prince of Winterfell Directed by Alan Taylor Written by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss Starring Mark Addy, Alfie Allen, Emilia Clarke, Liam Cunningham, Charles Dance, Stephen Dillane, Peter Dinklage, Michelle Fairley, Aidan Gillen, Jack Gleeson, Iain Glen, Kit Harington, Lena Headey, Conleth Hill, Carice van Houten, Harry Lloyd, Richard Madden, Patrick Malahide, Rory McCann, Sophie Turner, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Maisie Williams, and Issac Hempstead-Wright I wasn't blown away by Game of Thrones Episode 8, "A Prince of Winterfell." That's not to say there weren't individual moments throughout the episode I enjoyed, but I felt it was lacking as a whole. My major quarrel with the series has been that it spends a lot of time setting up plots to pay off later on down the line and after several weeks of payoff, we had another setup episode. I get what the show's trying to do. There's been a warning throughout the course of the season that something major was coming and most of this week is building up towards this major event [...] |
Posted: 22 May 2012 05:09 PM PDT Youngblood #71 Written by John McLaughlin Art by John Malin & Rob Liefeld Colors by Ross Hughes & Matt Yackey Letters by Russ Wooton Edits by Eric Stephenson Covers by Rob Liefeld & Matt Yackey, Ryan Ottley & Jordie Bellaire, and Chris Giarrusso Image Comics Release Date: May 23, 2012 Cover Price: $2.99 Astonishingly, Youngblood #71 is something that falls into the "things I didn't know I wanted or needed category," like Rocky Balboa -- who knew we needed an official ending to the Rocky story? Not me, but it sure was awesome. Also, the film Rambo. The last scene where John Rambo walks down the driveway to his family's farm was, again, an ending that I didn't know I needed. But again, I was surprised and satisfied that I got it. Truth by told, I stopped paying attention to Youngblood about a couple years after it started coming out, so why then was I excited for this issue? Some would say nostalgia (who, me?), but most of all, it's because I have been impressed by the other Image titles that have came back for the 20th anniversary that have been fantastic! And out of all those titles, Youngblood was the only one that I cared about originally [...] |
New ‘Dark Knight Rises’ Posters Forecast Stormy Weather Posted: 22 May 2012 04:00 PM PDT Yesterday saw the release of a burning and crumbling Gotham City poster for Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises. Normally this would be a call for celebration as it has been a few months since we saw the release of a poster for the film. But due the horrible photoshop work - which combined the teaser poster and a promo image of Batman from The Dark Knight - fans thrashed Warner Bros for their sloppy release. There's even an animated gif that proves just how easy it is to recreate the poster that was released yesterday. Now that Warner Bros has seen the reaction of what horribly done posters can do, they released six brand new posters, featuring Batman, Catwoman, and Bane braving inclement weather. Check out all six of these posters below [...] |

It's being reported that up-and-coming director Duncan Jones has signed on to make a new biopic about Ian Fleming, the creator of the eternally appealing super spy, James Bond. The movie will be adapted from Fleming's biography, Ian Fleming: The Man Behind James Bond by author Andrew Lycett, by screenwriter Matt Brown. [...] |

Comic Review: The Guild: Fawkes #1 Posted: 22 May 2012 12:11 PM PDT The Guild: Fawkes #1 Written by Felicia Day and Wil Wheaton Art by Jamie McKelvie Color by Matthew Wilson Letters by Nate Piekos of Blambot Cover by Paul Duffield Dark Horse Comics Release Date: May 23, 2012 Cover Price: $3.50 The Guild: Fawkes is a one-shot, backstory comic for one of the best characters in Felicia Day's insanely popular web series. If you don't already know what The Guild is, then firstly, shame on you. Secondly, this comic will probably not make much sense to you; it'll just be a story about some kilted sociopath who oddly resembles Wil Wheaton. You should probably watch all five seasons of The Guild to truly appreciate this comic. Hey, the web series is short, free, and hilarious. You have no excuses. Back in February, Dark Horse Comics released a preview image of the cover, the first ever glimpse of Fawkes' in-game avatar. The character looked amazing. Not how I would have pictured Fawkes -- just infinitely cooler. I was floored and instantly said, "I'm so gonna cosplay Fawkes at DragonCon." Yeah, I'm a complete mark for this whole Guild metaverse thing [...] |

New Set Pics From ‘The Hobbit’ Show Bird’s Eye View Of Hobbiton Posted: 22 May 2012 07:00 AM PDT Some new pictures from the set of Peter Jackson's adaptation of The Hobbit have made their way to the 'net, and they're worth a peek. Usually after official images and a trailer have been released for a movie, set pics mean very little. But for fans of Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy who are eager for the new movie, these new images offer a bird's eye view of the farm where Hobbiton was built, including Bilbo Baggins' Bag End residence. As you might already know, it's quite the beautiful area. [...] |
