Gary Oldman Joins ‘RoboCop’ Remake

Posted: 23 May 2012 05:45 PM PDT

RoboCop Remake Gary Oldman

You've seen him play tag-team partner to Batman and Harry Potter, now Gary Oldman will help RoboCop kick ass in Old Detroit.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Oldman has joined the cast of Jose Padilha's RoboCop remake, which stars Joel Kinnaman (The Killing) as Officer Alex J. Murphy, a man resurrected and reborn as a cyborg police officer.

THR says that Oldman will play Norton, "the scientist who creates RoboCop and finds himself torn between the ideals of the machine trying to rediscover its humanity and the callous needs of a corporation."

In my recent feature RoboCop: Electric Dreams and Cybernetic Wishes, I referenced an April report from The Tracking Board that first mentioned the character of Norton. At the time, Edward Norton was in talks for the role [...]

The GoD List: Comics For May 23, 2012

GoD List Banner

Each and every week "Batman Incorporated Is The Only Thing That Matters" MK2Fac3 and "Dirty Hench" Henchman21 read a lot of comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. I mean, it is possible… theoretically. They look forward to some more than others, I mean, who doesn't? So, let's take a look into the depths of their pull lists, grab some comics, and we'll let YOU know what the top books to look forward to are for the week of May 23, 2012. Single issues and trades, they're all here.

Guys, seriously, I love Florence + The Machine, I'm listening to their MTV Unplugged album right now, and it's just so good. Right now is a really good time for a fan of female vocalists. Anyway, I know that has nothing to do with what we're supposed to be talking about right now, and that's fine, but you should know that Daniel Bryan was robbed on Sunday and he should have taken home the championship! What are we talking about again? Oh right, comics. Sure, there are comics coming out this week, but for the life of me, I can't think of anything that I'd rather read more than Batman Incorporated, so that's what I'll be talking about at length, while Chris talks about some new comics, some new old comics, and some that are in between! So, strap in to your seat belts because I'm about to take you on a nice long ride where I talk a whole lot about Batman. No backseat drivers! Only The GoD List! [...]

Comics You Should Be Reading: Batman Incorporated

Posted: 23 May 2012 04:12 PM PDT

Batman Incorporated by Chris Burnham

There are a great deal of comic books that are released on a monthly basis, so many in fact that some of the best of the lot can fall through the cracks of hardcore comic book fans' pull lists because, quite frankly, you can't buy everything. So, it's working with that understanding that I am providing you with a somewhat consistent installment of Comics You Should Be Reading. And when I think of a comic that everyone should reading right now, like this week, well there's only one comic that counts: Batman Incorporated #1 by Grant Morrison and Chris Burnham.

Yeah, this is the comic that counts. It's the return of Grant Morrison to one of his best runs with one of the best current artists in the business at his side, and of course I'm talking about Chris Burnham. I'm pretty much a diehard Grant Morrison fan and while I don't love everything that I've read from him (I'm looking at you, Joe The Barbarian), I at least give his comics more than a fair chance. When he was announced as the lead writer for Action Comics, I was ecstatic. All Star Superman is easily one of my most favorite comics of all time, so Morrison writing Superman is something I get excited about, naturally [...]

Release Date: May 23, 2012
Cover Price: $3.99

Man, after reading The Bionic Man #9, I am SPENT! But, in a good way. NO, a GREAT way. THIS is a comic book, folks. THIS is your summer action movie. THIS is your sci-fi drama with the drama turned up to eleven. THIS is the review that you bought and paid for, Phil Hester. Just kidding on that last part. I've only met Mr. Hester one time, and no money changed hands. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

Phil Hester (with some help from Kevin Smith) brings us the classic story of man vs machine vs man vs machine. Once you've read the issue, that'll make more sense. This issue is INTENSE!!! From the story to the dialogue to the action, this book opens with a great action scene and doesn't stop until the last page. In fact, it doesn't even STOP at the last page!!! [...]

‘Batman: The Dark Knight Returns’ Voice Cast Announced; Plus Images From The Film

Posted: 23 May 2012 02:07 PM PDT

Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns

Around the time that the forthcoming The Dark Knight Rises went into pre-production, Warner Bros. and the newly rechristened DC Comics Premiere Movies (formerly DC Universe Animated Original Movies) announced that the next two direct-to-video animated features starring Batman would be based on two of the greatest stories of the Caped Crusader ever told. Late last year Batman: Year One made its debut and was greeted with warm praise from critics and fans who had been apprehensive about how the classic comic book miniseries would translate to animated movie form. The second of the two Batman animated projects is by far the most eagerly-anticipated of the DTV Bat-films, considering that it is an adaptation of what is routinely referred to as the greatest Batman tale of them all.

The Dark Knight Returns, the groundbreaking 1986 miniseries that took Batman in a bold and startling new direction and became one of the hallmarks of modern comic book storytelling, will provide the basis for the next animated Batman movie. The original series took place in the future where an aging Bruce Wayne, now 55 years old, emerges from retirement as Batman to rescue Gotham from the clutches of a rampaging street gang called the Mutants. Soon not only does he find himself battling crazed punks, but also the supposedly rehabilitated Harvey Dent, his oldest archenemy the Joker, and even his longtime ally Superman, now an agent for the U.S. government [...]

Comic Review: The Magdalena #12

I'm a sucker for a strong, badass heroine. I'm not talking some woman that is half-dressed and somehow managing to pose with her boobs and bum in full effect (though, as a pre-teen, that might have been the case, just sayin'). I'm talking about a well written, driven character that shows purpose in her actions and is in it for the long haul. Well, The Magdalena #12 gives us just such a person.

Patience is, for all intents and purposes, not a big fan of the church with which she is so deeply affiliated. They have lied and betrayed her and her friends many times over. But as she is the official bearer of the Spear of Destiny, she is sort of stuck with them to some extent. She is also discovering that not everyone in the church follows blindly, there are others that continue to work for the greater good regardless of the intent behind the orders they are given. Kristof is one such person and one that she finds herself trusting in spite of her fears [...]

New ‘The Walking Dead’ Photo Offers First Look At Danai Gurira As Michonne

Michonne header

In the last few minutes of the season two finale of The Walking Dead, Michonne saved Andrea from a couple of zombies by slashing them with a samurai sword, but we never got to see her face. Moments after the finale, it was announced that Danai Gurira (Treme) would be playing Michonne and since then, fans have been anxiously waiting to see her in action.

Now, we got our first look at Gurira as Michonne. Check out the image here below.

We all know that anything that is adapted for any screen will be changed or modified. So just how different the televised Michonne will be from her comic-book form is a mystery. The fact is, Michonne made her presence known. Below is what Robert Kirkman (the creator of the comic and executive producer of the TV adaptation) had to say about the character in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, which debuted this first photo [...]

MCCC 2012: Cosplay Round-Up

MCCC 2012 Cosplay

One of the big attractions for convention-goers of all ages is the chance to dress up like their favorite characters from comics, anime, movies, cartoons, and video games. So it was not surprising that a number of dedicated cosplayers showed up at Motor City Comic Con last weekend wearing intricately detailed outfits. While many competed in the costume contest, others were just there to have fun, posing for pictures with others guests and interacting with each other in moments of cross-genre roleplaying.

Here are some of the outfits that really stood out at the 2012 Motor City Comic Con [...]

With four of the incarnations of the Eternal Champion in one place, you would think they would be nearly unstoppable. But we learn very quickly in Elric: The Balance Lost #10 that as amazing as these men are, there are far greater powers in the multiverse. Far greater and far larger in fact.

We enter the issue gawking at the stature of the two Lost Gods, Kwll and Rhynn. Their game is responsible for the destruction of the balance and the aftershocks that are echoing through the worlds. While some have come under the sway of Law, many have embraced chaos in it's raw form. Our heroes (and anti-heroes) are trying to restore the balance and seek an audience with these powerful beings. Things, as they are wont to do, go horribly awry [...]

Disney Shuts Down Development Of Their Live-Action Snow White Project ‘Order Of The Seven’

Posted: 23 May 2012 08:59 AM PDT

Snow and the Seven

Of the many live-action Snow White projects that have been in the works, Disney's was the most unique. It also was having a difficult time finding its identity. The movie began as Snow and the Seven, telling the story of an Englishwoman who runs off to mainland China in the 19th century and settles in with a band of international warriors after discovering her stepmother is evil. After that, Disney tried to minimize the Snow White elements by changing the name to Order of the Seven and planning to focus more on the warriors than the Englishwoman.

Now, for the time being, none of it really matters as Disney has decided to shut down development on the movie indefinitely. [...]
