Mads Mikkelsen Joins ‘Thor 2′; Jon Favreau & Ashley Hamilton In ‘Iron Man 3′

Ashley Hamilton and Mads Mikkelsen

One of the most common complaints about the villains in the Iron Man franchise is that both had suits that were dastardly twisted versions of the Iron Man armor. That complaint may irk its ugly head once more in Iron Man 3, as Ashley Hamilton is now in talks to play Firepower, who Variety confirms to be the villain the film. Not only that, but the trade reports that the movie will borrow elements from the Warren-Ellis six-issue comic book arc [...]

Reelz Acquires ‘Pillars Of The Earth’ Sequel ‘World Without End’

World Without End

It's been announced that ReelzChannel has acquired the U.S. rights to World Without End, the eight-part sequel to the 2010 Starz miniseries, Pillars of the Earth.

Both miniseries are based on the books of author Ken Follett. Pillars centered around the construction of a massive church, and took place over the course of many years. World Without End takes place over 150 years after Pillars in the same fictional town of Kingsbridge (where some of the ancestors of the first story's characters still reside) right at the start of some major historical events such as the Black Death plague and the Hundred Years' War. Watch The ‘Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter’ Red-Band Trailer

Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter

To be honest, I really don't understand all the hype surrounding Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. I've never been on board with the movie from the start. The film seems like it was produced hastily and there is nothing that I see that I like. It all looks generic and stale. So in attempts to alleviate all that angst and worry that some may share with me, Fox has released a brand new red band trailer for the film, which you can view here below.

But even with all the hacking and slashing of vampires, the film doesn't look like anything truly special. It all just seems very ridiculous even for a summer popcorn movie. The source material is certainly interesting enough for a good read, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it's worthy of being adapted into a movie. We will have to see if Timur Bekmambetov's Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter can prove me wrong when it hits theaters on June 22nd [...]

Imagine, if you will, a world where magic is not just present, but is the primary means by which things are accomplished. Spells are used to make cars move, light up homes, and do pretty much everything for everyone. And like the oil companies of today, this world has its own businesses that enjoy the benefits of being on top and have no interest in changing the status quo. Smoke and Mirrors #3 gives us a bit of insight into the life of someone ripped from our world and suddenly dropped into this other, more magical, one.

Terry Ward is that tragic individual. A stage magician by trade, he is flabbergasted by the way things function in this new place. But as any good performer does, he manages to quickly adapt to the environment and begins to ply his trade. He spends his days in an out of the way marketplace pandering to the crowds. Things that we take for granted, such as the cup and ball trick or hidden coins, are wondrous to these strangers. Earning just enough to stay alive, he spends his time trying to stay under the radar, so to speak. That is, until a young boy named Ethan sees him perform [...]

4 Explosive Banners for Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Dark Knight Rises’

The Dark Knight Rises Bane vs Batman Banner

Warner Brothers is revving up the marketing machine for The Dark Knight Rises. In the past few days, the studio has released a theatrical poster and six character posters, the latter of which was the best. Now we have four new character banners that should amplify audiences' interest ten fold. You can check out these new character banners below. Credit goes to Collider for unveiling these four incredible banners.

Like the previous posters, the banners are setting the tone for the film. All the debris and mayhem that is occurring in the banners doesn't bode well for the caped crusader. But I love the final poster where Batman and the Gotham City Police are about to clash with Bane and his army. Then there are the battle line posters, where Batman stands on top a Gotham City police car with officers behind him, and Bane standing on top of a Tumbler with his army behind him [...]

Seth MacFarlane’s ‘Ted’ Moves In June Slot Left Behind By ‘G.I. Joe’ Sequel

Ted

Yesterday's news that Paramount Pictures would reschedule G.I. Joe: Retaliation from this June to March 29, 2013 came completely out of left field. Word is that the studio wants to implement new 3D effects, but some speculate that the studio isn't happy with the film. Now, Universal is taking advantage of the vacant spot by rescheduling a movie of its own. Coming Soon reports that Seth MacFarlane's first film Ted will now move to the June 29th slot left vacation by the G.I. Joe sequel.

Ted now shares the release date with Magic Mike, People Like Us, and Madea's Witness Protection. So there is a bit of everything for everyone on that date. Magic Mike for the ladies, People Like Us for the older demographic, and then there's Madea's Witness Protection, which does good no matter what the competition is or whenever it is scheduled [...]

Comic Review: Richie Rich #5

Richie Rich 5

Richie Rich #5
Written by Buddy Scalera
Art by James Silvani
Colors by Dustin Evans
Letters by Deron Bennett
Edited by Arron Sparrow
Concept by Brent E. Erwin
Ape Entertainment/Kizoic
Release Date: June 6, 2012
Cover Price: $3.99

Starting with Richie Rich #5 this series goes monthly, and I have to say, the 10-year-old in me is really happy about it, and I think the 10-year-old in you will enjoy it just as much.

Writer Buddy Scalera gives us a great lead story in this issue, one that reminds me of the classic Richie Rich stories, but with a modern day twist. I have to admit, reading the series before I wasn't totally digging the Jonny Quest take on Richie Rich that Ape Entertainment had going on. But, in this issue, Scalera returns Richie to his roots and tells a story that could only happen to "the poor little rich boy." It's a great parody of classic superhero comics, one that I think you'll enjoy and find really charming. A couple of classic characters are introduced from the Richie Rich universe, and the whole story really comes off as the Richie Rich we all know and love [...]

‘Shadow Of The Colossus’ Movie Being Developed By ‘Chronicle’ Director Josh Trank

Posted: 24 May 2012 11:00 AM PDT

Shadow of the Colossus

We've heard rumblings of a movie based on the beloved boss fights-only PlayStation 2 game, Shadow of the Colossus, in the past. It's been three years since the last time, which was only news that Sony was developing the project with Justin Marks writing a script.

That attempt clearly didn't transpire quite as well as hoped, and now another shot at turning Colossus into a movie is underway. It's being reported that the increasingly popular Josh Trank has been grabbed by Sony to develop the movie, which he will also direct if/when it ever gets the greenlight to go into production. [...]

‘Star Trek’ Actor James Doohan’s Ashes Launched Into Space; Watch The Liftoff

David Reddick Star Trek Scotty cartoon

The ashes of the late James Doohan, who played "Scotty" in the original Star Trek series, were successfully launched into space this week, nearly seven year's after the actor's death. You can watch a video of the liftoff here below.

Doohan died on July 20, 2005, at the age of 85 after suffering from Alzheimer's disease and then pneumonia. It was Doohan's final wish to have his cremated remains launched into space after his death. The launch was originally scheduled for 2006, but was moved to 2008, but that attempt failed.

On Tuesday, a second attempt was scheduled by SpaceX, which was successful, making the U.S. company the first commercial entity to send its own spacecraft toward the International Space Station. According to Sky News, Doohan's remains were launched from the craft's cargo-bearing Dragon capsule and also contained the ashes of over 300 people, including those of Mercury astronaut Gordon Cooper [...]

Last weekend, May 19, 2012, Black Sabbath finally played their homecoming show in Birmingham, England. As well as playing to a home crowd, it was also a warm-up to their major Download festival headline appearance in the Summer.

The full gig from Saturday night at the Birmingham O2 Academy is streaming online in full and you can listen to it right here below (via Bravewords).

Back in November, plans for a Black Sabbath reunion was announced, but recently news broke that original drummer Bill Ward was out of the event, and therefore had no part in what was supposed to be the band's first reunion show. Ozzy Osbourne's drummer Tommy Clufetos filled Ward's seat providing the beat for Osbourne, guitarist Tony Iommi, and bassist Geezer Butler [...]

‘G.I. Joe: Retaliation’ Release Date Bumped To March 2013 For 3D Conversion

Posted: 24 May 2012 07:00 AM PDT

Cobra Commander

Those among us who were looking forward to seeing Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Bruce Willis team up to kick some Cobra ass next month in the increasingly badass-looking sequel G.I. Joe: Retaliation are in for a mighty disappointment. Nikki Finke at Deadline reported today that Paramount Pictures has decided to pull Retaliation from its June 29 release date and delay it until March 29 of next year so that the film can undergo a 3D conversion.

"We're going to do a conscientious 3D job because we've seen how it can better box office internationally," an unnamed executive at Paramount told Finke. "Jim Cameron did all of Titanic's 3D in post — and look how well that movie turned out." [...]
