Posted: 21 May 2011 05:13 PM PDT The first season of the American television drama series Game of Thrones premiered on April 17, 2011 and concluded on June 19, 2011. It consisted of 10 episodes, each running approximately 55 minutes in length. Game of Thrones is based on the novel A Game of Thrones, the first entry in A Song of Ice and Fire series by George R. R. Martin. The story takes place in a fictional world, primarily upon a continent called Westeros but also on a large landmass to the east, known as Essos, where the noble Stark family, led by Ned Stark (Sean Bean) is thrown into the middle of schemes for the throne and against the king when the Hand of the King (chief advisor) dies mysteriously. The series was created by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss. It stars Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Michelle Fairley, Emilia Clarke, Aidan Gillen and a lot more. The cable television series closely follows the multiple storylines of the A Song of Ice and Fire series, and author Martin has stated that the show's pilot script was very faithful to his work. Set in the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros, Game of Thrones chronicles the violent dynastic struggles among the kingdom's noble families for control of the Iron Throne; as the series opens, additional threats from the snow and ice covered region north of Westeros and from the eastern continent across a narrow sea are simultaneously beginning to rise. |
