Netflix Review: Aaah! Zombies!!

Aaah! Zombies!!
Netflix Streaming
DVD Directed by Matthew Kohnen
Starring Matthew Davis, Julianna Robinson, Michael Grant Terry, Betsy Beutler, Richard Riehle, Tracey Walter, Colby French
Level 33 Entertainment
Originally Released: October 16, 2007

With the recent memes following the "zombie attack" news report from Florida, I found myself in a bit of a zombie flick mood this week for the Netflix Review. I was discussing this with a good friend of mine after reading the "bite your face off" news, and he recommended Aaah! Zombies!! to me because the story is told from the perspective of the zombies themselves.

Fascinated by this hysterical premise, I decided to dive into it. And what an eccentric ride this movie is.

Branded as a horror comedy, Aaah! Zombies!! dispenses exactly what it proposes: a zombie flick from the perspective of the zombies. The movie, directed by Matthew Kohnen, plays up on the well-known and thoroughly grounded trends and stereotypes from zombie tradition.

Aaah! Zombies!!, originally released under the name of Wasting Away, follows the ordeals of four teens that becoming exposed to a toxic waste that turn them into zombies. Accompanied by a man who claims to be Black Ops, the group is immune to injuries and imperceptive of their bodily transformation. They think they are victims of a military experiment that have turned them into super soldiers [...]

New Release Dates For ‘The Lone Ranger’ & ‘Thor 2′ Announced

Posted: 01 Jun 2012 03:00 PM PDT

The Lone Ranger

Two of next year's most anticipated blockbusters are getting their release dates shifted. Gore Verbinski's big screen adaptation of The Lone Ranger starring Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer has moved from May 31st to July 3rd, pitting it against Despicable Me 2 and 20th Century Fox's 3D re-release of Independence Day. Meanwhile, the Marvel Studios sequel Thor 2 being directed by Alan Taylor (Game of Thrones) will now open on November 8th instead of November 15th, giving it a much-needed two-week head start before the release of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.

The Thor 2 release date move is a canny one as it will need all the time it can get before Catching Fire is released. While there's no doubt that the original Thor was a successful film and has seen its following grow substantially in the wake of The Avengers, the first Hunger Games has the greatest appeal to younger moviegoers, particularly since both movies will be competing for those all-important holiday season dollars [...]

It’s Official: DC Comics Outs The Original Green Lantern Alan Scott

Posted: 01 Jun 2012 02:01 PM PDT

Earth 2 #3 by Ivan Reis, Joe Prado and Rod Reis

DC Comics revealed today that the original Green Lantern Alan Scott of alternate reality based Earth 2 is being re-imagined as one of the publishing company's highest profile homosexual male characters.

Alan Scott will be revealed to be gay next Wednesday in Earth 2 #2 by James Robinson and Nicola Scott. Earth 2, for those unaware, is an alternate reality in the DC Comics Universe that features several characters and heroes who are slightly different than they're main-world counterparts. Prior to the New 52 relaunch, Earth 2 was a world in which the golden age heroes from DC's past were alive and well, and in the New 52's Universe, while a lot of the character names are the same, each of these characters has drastically changed. For example, the power source for Earth 2's Flash, Jay Garrick, comes from the mythological god Mercury, and Green Lantern Alan Scott appears to be an appointed member of the Green Lantern Corps by the Guardians of the Universe, as noted by his lantern emblem, instead of being granted powers through magic. Earth 2 is a much younger and more relevant take on the characters from The Golden Age [...]

Scream Factory

Among the great companies out there releasing vintage horror, sci-fi, action, fantasy, and cult films on high-quality Blu-rays and DVDs, Shout! Factory is by far the best in the business. In recent years they've put out some fantastic box sets of Mystery Science Theater 3000 and given many of the finest B-movies produced by Roger Corman a much-deserved digital makeover, and nearly all of those releases were packed with terrific bonus features. The company's dedication to giving the films and television programs in their catalog top-notch treatment has earned them accolades from critics and fans and fine sales figures.

Shout! Factor has just announced the creation of Scream Factory, a new label that will specialize in releasing classic horror and science-fiction cinema from the 1970s and 80s on Blu-ray and DVD. Many of their titles will be making their debut in high-definition and each will be presented in brand new anamorphic widescreen transfers, with select titles receiving the full Collector's Edition treatment.

The Scream Factory line will launch this Fall with the release of the first two sequels to John Carpenter's horror classic Halloween - Halloween II and Halloween III: Season of the Witch. You can check out the Blu-ray cover art and bonus features lists for both movies here [...]

Aaron Johnson, Chloe Moretz & Christopher Mintz-Plasse Will Likely Return For ‘Kick-Ass 2′

Kick-Ass Header

Last month we reported that Lionsgate had relinquished their hold on rights for Kick-Ass and that Universal had bought the rights to it. They immediately hired Never Back Down director Jeff Wadlow to helm the sequel to the ultra blood-gushing adaption of the Mark Millar comic of the same name. But before moving forward with production for the sequel, they had the get the cast back together. Aaron Johnson, Chloe Moretz, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse had all been vocal about their interest to return to the franchise and now they are making the first step to do so.

According to Deadline, the three actors are now all in various stages of negotiations to reprise their respective roles. Since there was no option for a sequel, new deals have to be drawn up. Johnson, Moretz, and Mintz-Plasse would reprise Kick-Ass, Hit Girl, and the Red Mist, respectively [...]

Skyrim DLC Dawnguard

The first highly anticipated DLC game add-on for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim will finally arrive this summer, and you can now see the first trailer released by Bethesda Softworks.

There's not a whole lot to be said about the new DLC, which is titled Dawguard. The trailer pretty much speaks for itself, and as you'll see, it looks pretty twisted. [...]

The Avengers Assemble

In case you're somehow not yet aware, Marvel's superhero blockbuster The Avengers is kind of a big deal.

The movie shattered the opening weekend domestic record on its way to joining the $1 billion club, and now it's heading where it hasn't yet dominated: space.

Marvel Studios has announced that they have spoken with NASA and set up a screening of the movie for the crew of the International Space Station, 220 miles above our planet. "Do you hear that? It's the sound of battles fought and lives lost. It once pained me to know that I am the cause of such despair. But now their cries give me strength. Beauty is my power." -- Queen Ravenna

In director Rupert Sanders' feature-film debut, Snow White and the Huntsman, the ruthless and beautiful (ruthlessly beautiful?) Queen Ravenna (Charlize Theron) has spilled blood and conquered countless kingdoms. For the Queen, beauty is power - and by that measure she is a Goddess, omnipotent and sovereign. There is another, however, destined to undo Ravenna's tyrannical rule. The Magic Mirror (Chris Obi) foresees the Queen will be overthrown by her stepdaughter, Snow White (Twilight's Kristen Stewart), who will surpass her as "Fairest of Them All".

Luckily, destiny isn't always set in stone. If Queen Ravenna can consume Snow White's still-beating heart, she will achieve immortality and eternal beauty. She summons a huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) to journey through the Dark Forest and capture her dear, dear Snow White [...]

RELEASE DATE: May 15, 2012

I'm no seasoned vet when it comes to author George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" book series, having first become aware of it only a few years back when it was first revealed that a TV show version was being made for HBO. But after seeing the first season and reading the first book---both of which shot to the top of my personal TV and book lists---I had become familiar with a fact many of you had known for a long time now: this was a very special world with a very special variety of characters and a rich and complex history.

Because of that you can imagine mine and many others' elation when it was revealed that an RPG video game based in Martin's world had been in the making for a long while now (since the HBO show was only a rumor), and would be coming to us soon. [...]
