Guy Ritchie Set To Direct An Adaptation of ‘Treasure Island’ Posted: 02 Jun 2012 04:00 PM PDT Guy Ritche has signed on to adapt yet another classic piece of literature. According to Deadline, the filmmaker will be working with Sherlock Holmes producer Lionel Wigram, who has been looking to add a contemporary feel to the famed children's novel Treasure Island. So it seems to make sense that Ritchie and Wigram reunite for something like this. Not much is known about the actual film itself. Alex Harakis was the last screenwriter attached to the script. Ritchie himself has other things on his plate as well. He subbed in for Steven Soderbergh when he left The Man From U.N.C.L.E., so it could be a while before we see this get into production [...] |
Comic Review: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Season 8: Library Edition Volume 1 HC Posted: 02 Jun 2012 03:00 PM PDT Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Season 8 Library Edition, Volume 1 HC Script by Joss Whedon, Brian K. Vaughan Pencils by Georges Jeanty, Paul Lee, Cliff Richards Inks by Andy Owens Colors by Dave Stewart, Michelle Madsen Cover by Jo Chen Dark Horse Comics Release Date: May 30, 2012 Cover Price: $29.99 Buffy the Vampire Slayer was, and is, one of the most enduring popular cult television shows to ever hit the airwaves. Fan conventions routinely feature the stars of the show, as well as panel discussions. Legions of followers all over the world adore the Buffyverse and when it went off the air, we all thought that was it. But much to the joy of Buffy fans everywhere, creator Joss Whedon teamed up with Dark Horse Comics in 2007 to produce the continuation of the events of the television series. When the first few issues came out, viewers of the TV show who weren't also comic book fans and weren't accustomed to the shift in format weren't sure if the experience would translate for them from screen to book (usually it's the other way around, with comic books getting big and sometimes small screen adaptations), but the one thing every fan wanted to know was what would happen next. Due to constraints, television plotlines usually can't afford to veer off in all sorts of different directions the way comics do, and it takes whole seasons to properly go through one storyline. But with comics, the potential for several plotlines multiplies, and this can sometimes cause the reader to feel lost, but this isn't the case with Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 8, Volume 1, a hardcover edition that collects the first two arcs of Season 8 (there are eight volumes in total) along with two stand-alone stories together. This is 304 pages of awesomeness that makes the ultimate gift for any die-hard Buffy fan, particularly if they never got around to reading the single issues [...] |
Pixar’s Filmmakers Offer Few Details About ‘The Good Dinosaur’ Posted: 02 Jun 2012 02:00 PM PDT Pixar has had absolutely no trouble with finding stories to tell, at least that's what they say. But they've brought toys to life, shown us robots are capable of loving emotions, proven that not all monsters are evil, and that even something as small as a clown fish will stop at nothing to find his beloved son. So now they will turn back the clocks so far back that there weren't even clocks. The Good Dinosaur will be the studio's first film set in the prehistoric era, and they now offer a few tidbits about the story and what inspired them to create it. In an interview with 24 Frames, director Bob Peterson said: "It's time to do a movie where you get to know the dinosaur, what it's really like to be a dinosaur and to be with a dinosaur." [...] |
Adam Sandler Teaming Up With Will Ferrell For The Football Comedy ‘Three Mississippi’ Posted: 02 Jun 2012 01:09 PM PDT You've got to hand it Adam Sandler: the guy gets exorbitant salaries to make crappy comedies with his entourage of unfunny and untalented goons who think the words "pee-pee" and "poo-poo" are the height of hilarity, and every bit of pathetic schlock that goes out into theaters with Sandler's name above the title often makes beaucoup bucks at the box office. The guy started out making comedies that were genuinely funny though extremely juvenile at first, but somewhere along the way he found out that it was easier to sell out and stick to a surefire formula for making movies that generate fast and plentiful profits in theaters and on video and cable. The old Sandler - the guy who only cares about making people laugh and not just about satisfying his taste-deprived fan base - occasionally shows up for a fleeting moment, like the wonderful first two acts of Judd Apatow's bloated Funny People, but then he disappears just as fast into another awful movie where he plays an overgrown manchild who loves to vomit, defecate on someone's front lawn, and engage in acts of pointlessly absurd brutality that would only be truly hilarious to the lobotomized [...] |

George Lucas Names Kathleen Kennedy Co-Chairman Of Lucasfilm Posted: 02 Jun 2012 10:09 AM PDT "I've spent my life building Lucasfilm and as I shift my focus into other directions I wanted to make sure it was in the hands of someone equipped to carry my vision into the future." - George Lucas While there has been no thick plume of black smoke flying over Marin County while "The Imperial March" booms forth from loudspeakers strategically placed all over the town, today indeed marks the beginning of the end of an era. With no more Star Wars movies left to be made, George Lucas has been busy planning his retirement from overseeing the many film and television projects in development at Lucasfilm Ltd, including the long-gestating Star Wars: Underworld TV series. All that was left to do for Lucas was to name his successor. Kathleen Kennedy, a seven-time Oscar-nominated film producer and longtime collaborator of Lucas and other notable directors including Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese, has been named the new Co-Chair of Lucasfilm, it was announced today. Lucas will remain with the company as Co-Chairman of the Board and continue in his duties as CEO with Micheline Chau remaining as President and COO focusing on the day-to-day operations of the business [...] |
