Damon Lindelof To Pen Rewrites To ‘World War Z’ Script

Posted: 08 Jun 2012 05:08 PM PDT

Damon Lindelof

When it was announced that Paramount had pushed back the big screen adaptation of World War Z from its December 2012 release to June 21st, 2013, it didn't make big waves. In fact, one could make the argument that it could be better off with the new release date. But then came word that the film was going back for a 6-7 weeks' worth reshoots.

Part of the reason why there was such a call that significant was because there was a huge problem with the third act of the film. So in attempts to alleviate that problem, Prometheus co-writer Damon Lindelof has been brought in to rewrite World War Z. Much like with the Prometheus script, Lindelof will be brought in to bring a new edge to a script [...]

Universal May Move Forward With ‘Snow White and The Huntsman 2′

Snow White and the Huntsman

Rupert Sander's Snow White and the Huntsman may have claimed the number one spot at the box office last weekend, but the film has some stiff competition from Madagascar 3 and Prometheus this weekend. But its success at the box office has sparked new life into the proposed sequel.

Universal Pictures nearly scrapped plans to make a sequel after initial tracking reported the film to be trailing behind Men In Black 3. Luckily it made one huge splash at the box office and plans for a sequel were revived. Now, the studio has hired David Koepp to write a sequel for Snow White and the Huntsman. Deadline reports that Chris Hemsworth and Kristen Stewart are optioned for two more sequels, but Sanders isn't signed on to direct it [...]

‘The Office’ Writer To Script ‘Guinness World Records’ Movie

Guinness World Records

Some of the best tourist stops in Hollywood aren't the Walk of Fame, Madame Tussauds' Wax Museum, or the Hollywood sign itself, it's also Ripley's Believe It or Not and Guinness World Records. With tourist stops already covered by Ben Stiller's Night at the Museum and a Ripley's Believe it or Not film already being put into the works, no one has taken it upon themselves to make a Guinness World Records movie, until now.

Deadline reports that Warner Bros. is putting a movie together based on the Guinness World Records with The Office writer Danny Chun hired to write the movie, which will have some sort of action spin to it [...]

Guillermo del Toro Teases First Image From ‘Pacific Rim’

Pacific Rim

Much of Guillermo del Toro's newest effort, Pacific Rim, has been under a veil of secrecy. So far all we know about the film is that it will involve aliens and large robots operated by humans. But as the film moves into the post-production phase, del Toro as come out to speak about the state of Pacific Rim and offered a first look at one of the characters.

Total Film (via MovieHole) has given us the first look at Idris Elba in full costume. It appears that the suits are connected to the robots that they operate. Or they could be just suits. Although it does look a bit photoshopped, I am pretty happy with the overall look. It is a teaser image after all. I suspect we could be getting our first look at the film during Comic-Con later this year. Check out the first image of Elba in full costume below [...]

E3 2012: Syfy TV Series/Video Game Hybrid ‘Defiance’ Unveiled

Defiance

In March of last year, we told you about an incredibly ambitious new project being developed by Syfy and Trion, the game studio behind the highly popular MMORPG Rift. The epic plan was to create both an online video game and an original TV series that were set in the same world, and as the story of the show progresses, writers would incorporate significant moments from the game into the show, allowing players to be a real part of the show they're watching.

The very idea is awe-inspiring, but it's also easy to dismiss it as too much to pull off. [...]

Movie Review: The Babymakers

The Babymakers

The Babymakers
DIRECTOR: Jay Chandrasekhar WRITERS: Peter Gaulke, Gerry Swallow STARRING: Olivia Munn, Paul Schneider, Kevin Heffernan, Jay Chandrasekhar, Aisha Tyler, Nat Faxon Millennium Entertainment RELEASE DATE: August 3, 2012 (limited)

I love me some Broken Lizard. The comedy troupe behind movies like Super Troopers, Club Dread, Beerfest, and The Slammin' Salmon have brought me hours of joy (often times of the drunken variety).

The Babymakers isn't a Broken Lizard production, unfortunately, but it does relate to them. [...]

Check Out The Trailer For ‘Ice Age: Continental Drift’

Posted: 08 Jun 2012 11:00 AM PDT

Ice Age: Continental Drift

The Ice Age franchise is 20th Century Fox's glistening animated gem. Sure the quality of the story of the film franchise died down after the first installment, but all three animated films have grossed over $200 million, and that is nothing to scoff at. So the studio is having a fourth go-around. Ice Age: Continental Drift hits theaters in less than a month, but we are getting a new look at the crazy antics that Manny, Sid, and Diego get into, and it has an affect on the world. Literally. Check out the trailer below.

In Ice Age: Continental Drift, Scrat – a prehistoric squirrel who fails to claim an acorn on multiple and hilariously near fatal accounts – inadvertently causes the land mass known as Pangaea to split apart. As a result of his actions Manny, Sid, and Diego are separated from their herd, or family of misfit animals [...]

E3 2012: First Look At ‘The Elder Scrolls Online’ Environments

Posted: 08 Jun 2012 10:21 AM PDT

The Elder Scrolls Online

I've never had any interest in MMOs. None whatsoever. Not until The Elder Scrolls Online was announced, of course.

But in order to really win my undivided attention, so much would rely on the first look at actual Elder Scrolls Online gameplay and the world they've built. That day has now arrived...partially. A video showing a bunch of impressive shots of many different environments from the game were shown at E3, joined by plenty of juicy details about what you can expect. And while I'm still personally skeptical that the game can be as amazing as it sounds like it could be, the environments really do look great and there's hope that the gameplay will be equally impressive. Fans of The Elder Scrolls and MMOs alike will surely be keeping their eyes on this one. [...]

E3 2012: ‘Star Wars 1313′ May Offer Peek At The Power Of Next-Gen Systems

Posted: 08 Jun 2012 08:11 AM PDT

Star Wars 1313

It was thought that this year's E3 convention would bring with it our first glimpse of Microsoft and/or Sony's next-generation gaming console. Surprisingly, no one is saying a word...not even a whisper (which is perfectly fine by me---current systems are at their peak and can still give us a couple good years). Even some of the games we've seen look so good that it's hard not to wonder if they're being made for the current consoles, or if they're an early unannounced sneaky peek at the future of gaming.

One such game is Star Wars 1313, which is probably the most likely candidate of them all to ultimately be revealed as a next-gen game. [...]

She's programmed to do that should certain conditions arise. They have. Seems she has... intercepted a transmission of unknown origin. She got us up to check it out."
- Captain Dallas, Alien

In Ridley Scott's seminal 1979 film, Alien, the crew members of the Nostromo are awakened from hypersleep to investigate a mysterious beacon on LV-426, a natural satellite orbiting a ringed planet in the binary star system Zeta Reticuli [Yes, this will be on the quiz]. The year is 2122.

In Prometheus, Scott's first science-fiction film since 1982's Blade Runner, the year is 2089. Archaeologists Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace) and Charlie Holloway (Logan Marshall-Green) have discovered a star map within the pictographs and ideograms of several otherwise unconnected civilizations.

They interpret the star map as evidence of mankind's forerunners, an open invitation to meet our makers. Peter Weyland (Guy Pearce), the elderly founder of the Weyland Corporation, funds the construction of the scientific vessel Prometheus to follow the map to a distant world - one in the Zeta Reticula system [...]
