Sneak Peek: Bella & Edward’s Child Renesmee In ‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2′ Posted: 12 Jun 2012 08:46 PM PDT In 2010, it was reported that then 9-year-old Mackenzie Foy was cast in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 as Renesmee Cullen, the half-human/half-vampire daughter of Bella and Edward Cullen. A few months later, photos of Foy from an older modeling job were spread online as if it was from the fifth and final Twilight film, and since then, fans of this mega-popular franchise have been dying for glimpse at the couple's love child. Thanks to Entertainment Weekly, that sneak peek is finally here, as the magazine has revealed the first look at Foy as Renesmee Cullen. While it is the first look, it's also an obscured one as young Renesmee is shown standing behind her protective parents -- Robert Pattinson as the century-old vampire Edward Cullen and Kristen Stewart as his wife Bella, now a newbie vampire. Could Philip Seymour Hoffman Take Vital Role In ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire?’ Posted: 12 Jun 2012 06:00 PM PDT When we last heard about a casting for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, we had Garret Hedlund, Taylor Kitsch, and Armie Hammer all in the running for the role of Finnick Odair. But as the weeks progressed, it was revealed that Kitsch had taken himself out of the running and film producer Nina Jacobson said that neither Hammer nor Hedlund were in the running from the start. So while the actor claiming the role of Finnick Odair has yet to be revealed, we are learning of a new name that could possibly take another pivotal role in this sequel. According to Variety, Academy Award-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman has been offered the role of Plutarch Heavensbee. A bit of a spoiler for those who hasn't seen the movie or read the book follows, so turn back know if you don't want to know any more [...] |
Comic Review: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Color Classics #1 Posted: 12 Jun 2012 05:30 PM PDT Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Color Classics #1 Story and Art by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird Colors by Tom Smith's Scorpion Studios IDW Publishing Release Date: May 09, 2012 Cover Price: $3.99 All of my 80's childhood cartoon loyalties revolved around Jem and Rainbow Brite who respectively saved the day with holographic earrings and a fancy Color Belt. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were dudes who hung out in sewers and fought gun-toting gang members with weapons like katanas. Thus, they were off my radar until my TMNT fanboy roommate tried to get me to watch the old cartoons with him. To perhaps stall the inevitable, I agreed to review this comic. Rarely do I say this, but "he was right." Anthropomorphized and highly motivated turtles are pretty cool, and this issue is a great place to check out where the phenomenon began. A nostalgic gem, it certainly could not have been released at a better time. Fans are currently up in arms or at least reasonably concerned about Michael Bay's upcoming film version, which promises to turn the classic characters into Adult Alien UnMutant Turtles [...] |
Sony Pictures To Construct Big Screen Adaptation Of Tonka Trucks Posted: 12 Jun 2012 04:30 PM PDT It's apparent that there is no filmmaker that will leave a property stone unturned. Whether or not Battleship was a sign that studios should stop seeking out properties to just to turn a profit, it seems that Hasbro is the property to turn to for inspiration. The Transformers name gave way for three very successful films - from a box office standpoint - with a fourth coming in a few years. Battleship, however, proved to be a disastrous tank. So while Paramount has found success, Universal hasn't and Sony will dig up the former with an adaptation of Hasbro's large-scale construction toy line Tonka Trucks. According to Deadline, the film will be produced under the Happy Madison banner. This would be the second time that the production company and Sony have collaborated for a film. The two are currently working on another live-action adaptation of another Hasbro property, Candy Land [...] |
Comic Review: Gonzo: A Graphic Biography Of Hunter S. Thompson Posted: 12 Jun 2012 03:29 PM PDT Gonzo: A Graphic Biography Of Hunter S. Thompson Written by Will Bingley Illustrated by Anthony Hope-Smith Page Layout and Lettering by Andy Huckle Abrams Comic Arts Release Date: April 2012 Cover Price: $17.95 Abrams Comic Arts has released Gonzo: A Graphic Biography of Hunter S. Thompson and that word "graphic" certainly takes on many different definitions here when applied to the protagonist of this true-life comic novel. The public's perception of the late writer/journalist/self-made psychopath (by his own volition) is as varied and misunderstood as the man himself. Some of us only know Hunter S. Thompson as a modern day mid/late 20th century figure whose thirst and unbridled lust for all things excess is regarded as the stuff of filthy, unrelenting legend. Some of us only know him as Uncle Duke, the famous cartoon character who shook up the long-running comic strip Doonesbury when he first appeared in the mid 1970s in that strip, a character that Thompson had gone on record as hating. Some of us know him as simply a film character, portrayed by Johnny Depp in director Terry Gilliam's cult film adaptation of what seemed as unfilmable as William S. Burroughs' Naked Lunch, Thompson's arguably best known work, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. And there was also the recent attempt at a film adaptation of another Thompson work, last year's box office mess, The Rum Diary, again with Depp as its star [...] |
Watch The Trailer For UK Thrash Metal Doc ‘A History Of A Time To Come’ Posted: 12 Jun 2012 02:30 PM PDT Being A) British, B) a huge fan of thrash metal, and C) awesome (see A and B), I am hugely excited by this. A History Of A Time To Come – The Story Of UK Thrash, to give it its full title, will tell the story of those great thrash bands in the UK from the genre's inception and heyday in the 1980s to its exciting renaissance presently. Granted, not many thrash metal bands from this little island have achieved anywhere near the level of record sales, reverence, and general arse-lickery as those from the U.S. and other parts of Europe. But that does not mean we don't have talent, no sir. Watch the new trailer for the doc here below [...] |
David Cronenberg’s ‘Eastern Promises’ Sequel Could Finally Happen Next Year Posted: 12 Jun 2012 01:30 PM PDT David Cronenberg has never shied from making films that explored the darkest recesses of humanity, from the horrors that our bodies can inflict upon us to the moral dilemmas that slowly devour our souls. He has made many great movies and even a few masterpieces. For years Cronenberg had never considered making a sequel to one of his films, but three years ago he first discussed the possibility of a follow-up to his 2007 London-set Russian underworld crime drama Eastern Promises. Another year passed and the subject came up again, but the director had been too busy working on his films A Dangerous Method and Cosmopolis to give the sequel his full attention. Now it looks like the Eastern Promises sequel is gearing up once more. Claude Brodesser-Akner at Vulture is reporting that Promises co-star Vincent Cassel is in negotiations to join the production, with Cronenberg back in the director's chair working from a screenplay by Steven Knight - the writer of the original - and Viggo Mortensen starring. There's still no word on whether or not Eastern Promises female lead Naomi Watts will be returning as well [...] |
Comic Review: Adventures Into The Unknown, Vol. 1 Posted: 12 Jun 2012 12:00 PM PDT Adventures Into The Unknown, Vol. 1 The Pre-Code Horror Anthology Written by Edvard Moritz, King Ward, Mac Elkan Art by Edvard Moritz, King Ward, Fred Guardineer, Al Feldstein, Leonard Starr, Al Ulmer, Paul Reinman Dark Horse Comics Release Date: June 6, 2012 Cover Price: $49.99 Adventures Into The Unknown, which debuted in 1948, was the first ongoing horror comic. EC Comics may have been the comics horror icon in the 50s, but this is where the craze began. American Comics Group published the comic for nearly twenty years before the declining interest in the genre finally affected the series. This Dark Horse release reprints the first four issues which span from October 1948 through April 1949. Each issue of Adventures Into The Unknown includes short tales such as The Werewolf Strikes, True Ghosts of History, The Cursed Pistol, and Giants of the Unknown. The stories feature classic monsters like vampires, werewolves, witches, and ghosts. Kind of sounds like an episode of True Blood -- mercifully without the fairies. Many of the stories follow a similar pattern: some tragedy occurred in a location in the centuries preceding the story; a happy, post-war couple moves into the location and the green-tinted, trapped, long-suffering spirit attacks [...] |
Check Out These New Stills and Poster From ‘Dredd’ Posted: 12 Jun 2012 10:30 AM PDT It's about time some promotional materials from the upcoming futuristic action-thriller Dredd started to emerge. Based on one of the U.K.'s most popular comic book characters, Judge Dredd - the iconic policeman of a post-apocalyptic world who doles out justice via the barrel of a gun - was last given the big screen treatment back in 1995 with Sylvester Stallone in the role. But the movie was a resounding and costly flop that rankled fans of the character and fans of decent action flicks alike. Myself, I happen to enjoy it only as long as I can pretend that Rob Schneider's annoying comedy sidekick is not really there. This year the good judge is getting a gritty reboot with Karl Urban (Star Trek) donning the helmet of Mega City One's greatest badass lawman and Pete Travis (Vantage Point) directing the movie from a screenplay by Alex Garland (28 Days Later). Now we have the first poster for Dredd as well as a pair of visually striking images from the film for your perusal. You can check them out here below [...] |
Remembering The Late Brad Delp, Lead Singer Of Boston, On His Birthday Posted: 12 Jun 2012 09:00 AM PDT Today is the birthday of Brad Delp, the late singer of the rock group Boston, who's acrobatic, high-pitched and almost banshee-style vocals helped propel that band to become one of America's biggest in 1976, charting a success that followed to the end of the decade, and ultimately becoming one of the most beloved bands of that era. Delp, who was born on June 12, 1951 in Massachusetts, started his musical career after excitedly watching The Beatles perform on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1964. He picked up the guitar soon after, and became obsessed with The Beatles, even being fortunate enough to have seen them perform live, locally in town during what was to become their final tour, in 1966. In the late 60s, Delp discovered an obscure band by the name of Orpheus, who's lead singer was a key influence on his vocal style, which became his trademark [...] |
‘The Dark Knight Rises’ Soundtrack Cover Art and Track Listing Posted: 12 Jun 2012 08:01 AM PDT Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy draws to a close next month with the much-anticipated release of The Dark Knight Rises. One of the most crucial and defining elements of the series has been the musical scores composed by Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard. For the score to The Dark Knight Rises Zimmer will be flying solo for the first time, but if you remember his stellar score to Nolan's 2010 mind-bending blockbuster Inception, you just might be perfectly fine with that. I'm anxious to hear what Zimmer has in store for Nolan's final journey to Gotham City. With the movie guaranteed to be a sweeping action epic with great intellectual and emotional themes running through its narrative, the noted composer will have a lot of musical ground to cover. Jett at Batman-On-Film has revealed the track listing for the upcoming release of the soundtrack, which is available for pre-order now, and posted the album cover art as well. You can check them both out here below [...] |
Geeks In Space: National Geographic Wants To Send YOUR Message To Space In Response To Wow! Signal Posted: 12 Jun 2012 07:00 AM PDT For those who don't know, the Wow! Signal (learn more here) is an extraterrestrial radio signal picked up by Ohio State University's Big Ear radio telescope on August 15, 1977. It lasted 72 seconds, and has never been heard again. Many believe it could have been a signal sent out by intelligent life somewhere far off in space, where others feel it could in fact simply be something from our own planet that found its way back. We'll likely never know the origins of the Wow! Signal, but National Geographic has decided to send out a response just in case there's an intelligent species somewhere out there beneath the pale moonlight (and beyond) to receive it. [...] |
