Alison (Melissa George) and her friends Ed (Ed Speleers) and Rob (Alec Newman) along with marrieds Alex (Garry Sweeney) and Jenny (Kate Macgowan) have traveled to the Scottish Highlands for a relaxing vacation of peace, quiet, and a little intense mountain climbing. One day the group finds their vacation brought to a dead standstill when they discover a barely alive little girl named Anna (Holly Boyd) being held prisoner buried under the ground. They dig her out and decide to head for the nearest village to call for help, but en route they realize that they're being hunted by the forces that put Anna in the ground to begin with - notorious kidnappers Kidd (Sean Harris) and McRae (Stephen McCole). The criminals have taken the young girl who doesn't speak a word of English with the intention of holding her for ransom and are prepared to see their devious scheme to the end even if it means taking a few more lives than they originally intended. It's up to Alison and her friends to brave treacherous bluffs and raging rivers to get Anna to safety without losing their lives to Kidd and McRae, who have their own problems in the form of a resourceful mercenary (Eamonn Walker) and a company man (Karel Roden) who has been hired by Anna's mysterious father to bring her back at all costs [...]

J.J. Abrams’ ‘Star Trek 2′ Was Partially Shot On IMAX

Posted: 13 Jun 2012 06:00 PM PDT

Star Trek 2

In what should be exciting news for movie fans everywhere, we are learning that J.J. Abrams has shot some of Star Trek 2 in IMAX as well.

However, we shouldn't take the news as a complete surprise considering we've seen images on set where an IMAX camera is present. The film will still be converted into 3D, as well. We still don't know how much was shot using the IMAX format or how much of what was shot will make it into the theatrical cut, but knowing that Star Trek will be presented in a true IMAX format is comforting. [...]

‘House’ Star Hugh Laurie Heads To Jose Padilha’s ‘RoboCop’ Reboot

Posted: 13 Jun 2012 05:00 PM PDT

Hugh Laurie

Earlier this week we reported that Abbie Cornish and Samuel L. Jackson were joining the cast of Jose Padilha's Robocop reboot. But the film still lacked a force for Robocop to deal with. That has all changed.

Rather than spend time with a vacation after working on eight seasons of the Fox medical drama House, actor Hugh Laurie is quickly getting back to work. [...]

‘Django Unchained’ International Trailer Has New Dialogue and Footage

Posted: 13 Jun 2012 04:00 PM PDT

Django Unchained

Last week we brought you the exciting first trailer for Quentin Tarantino's spaghetti western film Django Unchained. But like most domestic trailers, the international trailer exceeds it in terms of quality. And that's what we are getting with the new trailer for the film. Check out the new international trailer below.

While there isn't that much new footage in this new trailer, the additions have more dialogue from Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Django (Jamie Foxx). Some of the footage that was seen in the first trailer is shown in this trailer, but from different angles. It really doesn't change my interest in the film, but I am wondering why they chose to present it this way [...]

MP3 Album Deal: Dee Snider ‘Dee Does Broadway’

Posted: 13 Jun 2012 03:00 PM PDT

Dee Snider Dee Does Broadway

Today's MP3 album deal of the day is Dee Snider's Dee Does Broadway for only $5.99.

The album has Snider performing 12 popular Broadways tunes, some of which contain guest appearances by the likes of Cyndi Lauper and Clay Aiken, as well as Broadway veterans like Bebe Neuwirth (best remembered for her role as Lilith on Cheers and Frasier). It's definitely not the kind of album you'd expect from the Twisted Sister frontman, especially something like a cover of "Mack The Knife," but it's a nice change of pace, plus he rocks the hell out of "The Ballad of Sweeney Todd." Speaking of "Mack The Knife," the MP3 album comes with a video for this song, as well as the digital booklet.

If you'd like a physical copy of Dee Does Broadway, the CD is available for $9.99 [...]

Comic Review: The Massive #1

The Massive #1

The Massive #1
Written by Brian Wood
Art by Kristian Donaldson
Color by Dave Stewart
Cover by Brian Wood, Kristian Donaldson
Dark Horse Comics
Release Date: June 13, 2012
Cover Price: $3.50

Brian Wood is no stranger to catastrophe. Well, more accurately his writing is no stranger to catastrophe. Collapse, whether it is political, social, financial, or personal, typically accompanies his work. His latest project, The Massive, has been long awaited and is now finally here. This time, Wood takes an entire planet on the verge of destruction and looks at it on a miniature scale. Instead of focusing on the endless outcomes that global breakdown could have on societies, Wood follows a small group of environmentalists searching for answers. The Massive #1 is Wood at his best. He is taking something infinitely beyond most people's comprehension and giving it a name. The Massive #1 is not a flawless comic for what it is, but it is perfect for what it will be [...]

Movie Review: The Pact

The Pact

The Pact DIRECTOR: Nicholas McCarthy

IFC Midnight
RELEASE DATE: July 6, 2012 (limited); On VOD now

Ghost stories, tales of the things that go bump in the night, and supernatural thrillers in general will always be popular. They won't always be good, but they will always attract eager eyes seeking a thrill.

The trick is doing things right, above all other things, but it's also important to offer your own fresh and unique style. People love to be scared, and a big part of that is properly using your viewers' own brains against them. [...]

Comic Review: Flash Gordon: Zeitgeist #5

Flash Gordon Zeitgeist 5

Letters by Slamet Mujiono
Covers by Alex Ross, Paul Renaud & Francesco Francavilla
Dynamite Entertainment
Release Date: June 13, 2012
Cover Price: $3.99

Flash Gordon Zeitgeist #5 is a big-budget action movie contained within a single issue comic book. Honestly, this book is one of THE most action-packed comics out there right now, and if you're not reading it, you're really missing out. Another FANTASTIC issue by Eric Trautmann. Now, I know in my reviews that I've given almost sole credit for the writing on this book to him, but that's only because I have no clue as to what degree Alex Ross was involved in the plot. Either way, it totally works and I'm not going to look a gift horse in the mouth.

This issue takes place both on Mongo and on Earth, and as I said before, this really reminds me of a big budget sci-fi movie in comic form. You can HEAR the dialogue coming out of the characters' mouths. You can SEE the action, explosions, and other worldly adventures in your mind. This, is truly a great comic for anyone who wants to escape reality for 15 minutes. Without going into spoilers, there's some pretty important things that take place in this issue and a moment that we all knew was coming, yet Trautmann still manages to shock us with it when it happens [...]

Disney Gets Creepy With ‘Stuff of Legend’ Adaptation

Posted: 13 Jun 2012 11:00 AM PDT

The Stuff of Legend

Disney will be tapping into a child's inner most fear about closets and the dark. The studio has just signed a deal to adapt Stuff Of Legend, a graphic novel written by Mike Raicht and Brian Smith and illustrated by Charles Paul Wilson III. Stuff of Legend has a few themes that are similar to that of Toy Story and The Chronicles of Narnia.

According to Deadline, Disney is looking to make the film a live-action CGI hybrid, much like the work on Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland. TV director Pete Candeland will direct using a script penned by Abduction's Shawn Christensen. According to the report, the two have been working on the pitch and visual presentation for close to a year [...]

Comic Review: KISS #1

IDW Publishing: KISS #1

KISS #1 Written by Chris Ryall

Letters by Shawn Lee
"She" Lyrics by Harold Fraiser, Roget Roaime, and Shannon Jones
Covers by Nick Runge, Jamal Igle, & Michael Gaydos
IDW Publishing
Release Date: June 13, 2012
Cover Price: $3.99

Did anyone really want another KISS #1? Yes, yes, we did. So here comes IDW to the rescue. The last couple KISS series have left bad tastes in fans' mouths: The Image Comics KISS: The Psycho Circus and then the Kiss4K by...some company that went out of business. So, here comes IDW's new KISS title and I think everyone's expectation are not overly high, but luckily for us, this book turned out to be an awesome surprise!

Writer Chris Ryall has done what no other writer before him has done: turned out one hell of an entertaining KISS book with a story that is fresh and a completely original concept. He's really captured the personas of what the members of KISS are on stage. There's a fantastic narrative that runs through out the book, that's really amazing. More importantly, this is a story that MAKES SENSE. It's not just "KISS trying to get to the concert venue before it's too late" (which would be a GREAT idea for a KISS kid's comic), it's a story of good vs evil. Well, kinda-good vs evil. OK, it's a story of KISS vs. evil [...]

Henry Hill, Real Life Subject For The Film ‘Goodfellas’, Dies At 69

Posted: 13 Jun 2012 09:30 AM PDT

Ray Liotta and Henry Hill

Henry Hill, the former underworld mobster who became an anti-folk hero when he was immortalized in the film Goodfellas, died in Los Angeles yesterday after a long illness at the age of 69, reports TMZ.

Hill, who was born in Brooklyn, NY, and was an associate for the Lucchese crime syndicate, had been accused throughout that "career" of a litany of Mafia-related offenses, including extortion, theft, kidnapping, assault, and drug dealing. He got out of that dangerous existence by testifying against his former cohorts in the mob, leading to lengthy prison sentences for them and a place in the Witness Protection Program for him. As a result, it forced him to live in rural existences deep in the midwest of America [...]
