Disney In Depth: Disneyland Resort Ticket Prices Boom Posted: 14 Jun 2012 04:44 PM PDT Ka-ching. It's becoming increasingly more expensive to savor the magic of a Disney theme park, as a recent rise in ticket prices at the Disneyland Resort has struck many guests with frustration and anger. Although it is normal to witness changes each year, the most recent list of ticket prices shows quite significant upsurges. Here I'll focus on the fiscal value of what you're receiving for spending time at The Happiest Place on Earth. Say you want to go to either Disneyland or Disney California Adventure for just one day. If you're any adult, that will now cost you $87. Previously it was set at $80. Let's consider that you take said ticket to Disneyland on a day when the park is open for 16 hours, and you stayed the entire day there. You would be paying $5 an hour, mind you the park would likely contain heavy crowds. Now let's say you choose to "park hop" between both parks for that same day. For the past decade or so, the Park Hopper plans have been very popular, especially for those who might want to head to Disneyland during the morning and California Adventure in mid-afternoon when the original park feels packed. Well, that one-day park hopper ticket will now cost you a whopping $125, up from $105. Suddenly your money is not worth as much, as you would be spending $7.81 an hour over a 16-hour period. But really, who is in the park from opening to closing over such a long day? [...] |
Jet Li Brings Us A Wushu MMO With ‘Age of Wushu’ Posted: 14 Jun 2012 03:15 PM PDT Just being a badass doesn't really mean you know what's a good videogame, right? After all we've seen guys like Bruce Willis attach themselves to some sub par games in the past. Hopefully Jet Li can change all of that with this new game that he will be endorsing for the next two years. Age of Wushu is an interesting game regardless of whose name is on it. The game is already mega popular with more than 20 million players in China. Snail Games introduced an early build of the North American version last week at E3. A few things make the game unique, including the fact that characters aren't progressed through the game by setting up classes and levels. Instead, characters are customized by choosing one of eight martial arts school and working through the storyline based on that choice [...] |

Interview: Rock Musician and ‘Games Of Thrones’ Actor Wilko Johnson Posted: 14 Jun 2012 01:17 PM PDT It's always a unique event talking to Wilko Johnson. His accent and way with words is distinctly British and profoundly eccentric. The last time we spoke (you can read the interview HERE) the ex-Dr. Feelgood guitarist was about to start touring the UK with his solo band, had recently finished shooting Game of Thrones season one, and was secretly beavering away on his autobiography. Said autobiography, entitled Looking Back At Me, is out now and it is absolutely, expectedly brilliant. I caught up with the British bluesman to discuss his book, reading sagas in Old Icelandic, and what the future holds for his Game of Thrones character, Ser Ilyn Payne. Geeks of Doom: The first thing I want to ask you about is your autobiography. Are you happy with how that came out? Wilko Johnson: Well yes and although you call it my book, my autobiography, in fact Zoe Howe put this thing together. Although I am the subject of it, as you say, so a lot of it is me blathering on about various topics, but yes I'm very, very happy with what Zoe did with this material. Geeks of Doom: It's not a conventional autobiography, is it? [...] |
Emma Watson & Liev Schreiber Up For Roles In Darren Aronofsky’s ‘Noah’ Posted: 14 Jun 2012 12:15 PM PDT When Logan Lerman and Douglas Booth were cast in Darren Aronofsky's biblical epic, Noah, as Noah's (played by Russell Crowe) sons, we learned that Liam Neeson was no longer being considered for the role of the villain and also that there was a love interest role for Noah's older son, Shem (to be played by Lerman). Now we know who will be playing as his love interest and who might be Neeson's replacement. According to a report from Deadline, Harry Potter star Emma Watson is now in talks to play as the unnamed love interest for Shem. As for Neeson's replacement, X-Men Origins: Wolverine star Liev Schreiber is now being considered to fill the role. [...] |
Comic Review: Star Wars: Knight Errant, Volume Two – Deluge Posted: 14 Jun 2012 11:15 AM PDT Star Wars: Knight Errant, Volume Two- Deluge Written by John Jackson Miller Pencils by Ivan Rodriguez, Iban Coello, and David Daza Inks by Ivan Rodriguez, Sergio Abad Colors by Michael Atiyeh Cover Art by Joe Quinones Dark Horse Comics Release Date: June 13, 2012 Cover Price: $18.99 The Sith have a rich and tumultuous history within the framework of the Star Wars universe. From their beginnings on Korriban, to the rise of numerous Imperial threats against the Old Republic, to the Rule of Two that culminated in Palpatine's rise to power, and beyond to Darth Krayt's One Sith ascendency of the galaxy. Since Star Wars was released in 1977, Expanded Universe creative teams have enriched the tapestry of Sith history, and the current Knight Errant creates a new thread in this tapestry. Set 30-odd years before Darth Bane extinguishes the old misguided Sith and institutes the Rule Of Two, Knight Errant focuses on a time where the Sith Empire is nothing more than a large galactic territory shattered by the greed and quest for control among bickering Sith Lords. The ruling Sith impose authoritarian regimes upon the people who populate their worlds, rich with propaganda and continually destroying the wills of the populace [...] |
Francis Lawrence To Shoot Some Of ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ In IMAX Posted: 14 Jun 2012 10:19 AM PDT The popularity of IMAX is increasing, hopefully far enough to jump ahead of the popularity of 3D. Recently Lionsgate released The Hunger Games in Digital IMAX. For those that don't know, it was digitally retrofitted for the IMAX screen. But there are some films that are shot using IMAX cameras, something that Christopher Nolan is a huge proponent of. Now The Hunger Games: Catching Fire will be presented in its full IMAX glory. THR reports that Francis Lawrence will begin shooting the film this fall, with the intent on using IMAX cameras for certain scenes in the film. [...] |
Posted: 14 Jun 2012 09:00 AM PDT Bad Medicine #2 Written by Nunzio DeFilipps & Christina Weir Illustrated by Christopher Mitten Colored by Bill Crabtree Lettered by Douglas E. Sherwood Cover by Christopher Mitten Oni Press Release Date: June 13, 2012 Cover Price: $3.99 FINALLY!!! Someone does a comic based on the hit Bon Jovi song, Bad Medicine!!! Wait... what? OK, so it's NOT an adaptation of the song, BUT what Bad Medicine #2 IS is a very unique comic. And a very entertaining one, at that. Although I hate comparing comics to other things, writers Nunzio DeFilipps and Christina Weir are going to force me to. While this book goes above and beyond the call of duty to not be ANYTHING like what's on the stands today, I'm going to say that, for lack of a better term, it's CSI crossed with Twin Peaks with a dash of sci-fi thrown in. Again, this is NOTHING like anything that's out there today, and I think that's why I liked it so much. Very original and compelling [...] |
Prometheus: To Create, You Must Destroy… Posted: 14 Jun 2012 08:01 AM PDT DISCLAIMER: This feature contains specific plot details and spoilers regarding Sir Ridley Scott's latest film, Prometheus. By now you've no doubt dedicated hours to scouring the darkest corners of the internet in hopes of finding answers and explanations to the film's numerous questions and mysteries. This feature isn't an attempt to assuage geeks and enthusiasts who demand answers from their speculative science-fiction, but it will discuss the ending of the film so reader beware. But first, let's start with tonight's viewing: Ishirô Honda's 1962 film, King Kong Vs. Godzilla, starring Tadao Takashima, Kenji Sahara and Yû Fujiki. Mr. Tako (Ichirô Arishima), the chairman of a pharmaceutical company, learns the bizarre tomato-sized berries that grow on Farou Island are a miracle cure. The natives of the island worship a god called King Kong, a colossal ape whose size can be attributed to the berries. Tako leads a scientific expedition to the island to retrieve the berries and capture the monster. Meanwhile, a crew of American pilots discover Godzilla has escaped from the glacier that sealed his fate back in 1955. From there, King Kong escapes his captors and goes toe-to-toe with Japan's King of the Monsters in an epic battle royale that manages to throw a giant octopus creature in for good measure [...] |
‘The Lone Ranger’ Budget Inflates Back To $250 Million, Hits More Delays and Script Rewrites Posted: 14 Jun 2012 07:00 AM PDT If you have been following the progress of Gore Verbinski's adaptation of The Lone Ranger, you know of the difficulties it took for them to even get the cameras rolling. Pricey deals, a large budget, complications with the script, and big money already spent on John Carter (which didn't end well) and Oz: The Great and Powerful – all of these things were contributing factors that led to Disney's decision to halt the production of The Lone Ranger. At first The Lone Ranger was budgeted at $250 million, which is quite large considering the film is a western. [...] |
