Throw up the metal horns and pay attention to your online streaming screen, people, because this week's Netflix review comes from Norway, the home of Vikings, pioneering Black Metal, and... TROLLS! The much discussed and highly reviewed film Trollhunter takes you into the domain of modernized fantasy, bringing the creatures from fairy tales and folklore into a modern setting, and providing them with a film platform in the manner that vampires and zombies have had for years. The principal selling factor of Trollhunter is its breathtaking visual effects, making it an amazing eye-candy experience.

Presented in "found-footage" format, Trollhunter shadows a group of film students creating a documentary examining mysterious bear deaths across the country. Their investigations lead them to a man known only as Hans, who turns out to be a long-time experienced trollhunter employed by a government who wants to keep the existence of trolls a secret [...]

$5 MP3 Album Deal: Michael Jackson ‘Off the Wall’

Posted: 15 Jun 2012 10:32 AM PDT

Michael Jackson Off the Wall

Today's MP3 album deal of the day is Michael Jackson's Off the Wall for only $4.99.

Off the Wall was released in 1979 after his successful childhood career with his brothers in The Jackson 5, as well as his turn as the Scarecrow in the film The Wiz. Off the Wall, which was the precursor to Jackson's mega-hit album Thriller, contains 10 songs, all worth owning for sure, but standouts are "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough," "Rock With You," the ballad "She's Out Of My Life" (jazz guitarist Larry Carlton performed on this one!), and the title track. Definitely, a must-own.

If you'd like a physical copy of Off the Wall, the CD, which contains extra songs and an interview, is available for $6.99 [...]

But first, the headlines... more leaked password woes at Last.fm, Twitter introduces branded pages for hashtags via their first television ad, and ICANN launches the 'great internet landgrab'! [...]

Check Out Samples From Hans Zimmer’s ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ Score

Posted: 15 Jun 2012 08:01 AM PDT

The Dark Knight Rises

A few days ago we got our first look at the cover art and track listing for the forthcoming release of Hans Zimmer's orchestral soundtrack to The Dark Knight Rises was released.

Today we have for you a selection of 30-second samples from each of the album's fifteen tracks. You can listen to them here below.

The chilling chant that serves as the theme for the film's villain Bane (Tom Hardy) is quite prevalent in several of these tracks, but in the final track "Rise" there is a subtle callback to a piece used to underscore the death of Bruce Wayne's (Christian Bale) parents in the early moments of Batman Begins. A hint of rumors to come true, perhaps? [...]

"Ain't lookin' for nothin' but a good time, and it don't get better than this." - Poison

Disclaimer: I am a 27-year-old man with an affinity for musical theatre and '80s glam rock. I am not ashamed to admit I have shed a tear or two during Glee or the occasional off-Broadway production of Rent. Musicals aren't for everyone, but for all the Drama Nerds, Band Geeks, and Glee Kids out there, this one's for you.

From director Adam Shankman (Hairspray) comes Warner Bros. Pictures' big screen adaptation of the Broadway musical Rock of Ages. The year is 1987. Movies like Fatal Attraction, Moonstruck, and Beverly Hills Cop II blow up the box office while Mötley Crüe, Def Leppard, and Bon Jovi play to sold-out stadiums across the country. In this alternate reality of 1987, however, rock god Stacee Jaxx (Tom Cruise) is responsible for every '80's anthem and power ballad - an amalgam of every legendary front man in rock'n'roll history.

Rock of Ages features Julianne Hough (Footloose, Burlesque) as Sherrie Christian, a small-town girl who leaves Tulsa, Oklahoma to follow her Hollywood dreams. There she meets rock'n'roller Drew Boley (Diego Boneta), a bartender at The Bourbon Room, one of Sunset Strip's hottest concert venues [...]
