SDCC 2012: Marvel’s ‘Iron Man 3′: The Mandarin Confirmed; Footage Shows New Armor In Action Posted: 15 Jul 2012 12:01 AM PDT The last studio panel of Saturday's Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con began with a year-by-year video retrospective of Marvel's Hall H presence, including past panel footage. "You've been here," text on the screen read, "in this very room, helping us to assemble The Avengers." The video went on to thank the Comic-Con fans for making The Avengers the number one superhero movie of all time. Moderator Geoff Boucher (of the LA Times' Hero Complex blog) opened the panel up by introducing Marvel Studios' President of Production Kevin Feige, who announced the launch dates for future Marvel projects, including Guardians of the Galaxy. Then Feige brought director Edgar Wright onstage to talk about developments on the upcoming Ant Man [...] |
SDCC 2012: First Look At Marvel’s ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ Posted: 14 Jul 2012 09:00 PM PDT We've heard rumblings the last couple of weeks about a Guardians of the Galaxy movie as one of the next movies coming from Marvel Studios, but Saturday's Marvel Studios panel at SDCC gave us an official confirmation. The film will be released August 1st, 2014 and will feature the newest incarnation of the group. The team featured in the movie will be Starlord, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Drax the Destroyer, and Gamorra. [...] |
SDCC 2012: ‘Pacific Rim’ Panel Posted: 14 Jul 2012 08:22 PM PDT The Warner Brothers/Legendary Pictures panel at SDCC featured a whole bunch of movies and news, and the first movies up was the new film from Guillermo del Toro, Pacific Rim. The panel was extra special right from the start, when the curtains pulled back for a couple of extra screens. The extra screens in Hall H showed a lot of behind the scenes action from the film's production. The film is described as a "Giant Robot versus Giant Monster" film, and totally lives up to that description. This is a sci-fi epic that is going to get people excited once they see some footage. SDCC 2012: Edgar Wright Shows Off ‘Ant-Man’ Test Footage Posted: 14 Jul 2012 07:49 PM PDT Just another surprise came during Marvel's Iron Man 3 panel in Hall H today at the San Diego Comic-Con. Edgar Wright, director of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, Shaun of the Dead, and Hot Fuzz, showed up at the panel to show off test footage that he had just completed for Ant-Man. Wright has long been rumored to be working on an Ant-Man movie, just recently revealing that he was shooting a test reel, and that is just the project that he had to show off. Continue reading for a description of the footage. [...] |
Posted: 14 Jul 2012 07:03 PM PDT At the beginning of the Iron Man 3 panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2012, Marvel president Kevin Feige revealed the official titles, release dates, and logos for some of the Marvel Studios' upcoming titles. Feige revealed that the titles release dates for Thor 2 and Captain America 2 would be Thor: The Dark World, arriving in theaters on November 8, 2013, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which will be released on April 4, 2014. SDCC 2012: ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’ Panel and Photos Posted: 14 Jul 2012 06:32 PM PDT Director Peter Jackson revolutionized fantasy cinema with his epic adaptation of J. R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings trilogy, a monumental task, in spite of the author's insistence that it could never be filmed. Given the phenomenal success with which Jackson pulled that off, how well would he tackle Tolkien's earlier saga of Bilbo Baggins, The Hobbit? San Diego Comic-Con Hall H fans found out earlier today with the panel for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Moderator Chris Hardwick(The Nerdist podcast) kicked off the Warner Brothers/Legendary Pictures panel with a surprise, by pulling open curtains across the back of the hall to unveil projection screens double standard size, larger than I'd ever seen in Hall H history. [...] |
SDCC 2012: ‘Man Of Steel’ Panel Posted: 14 Jul 2012 05:13 PM PDT Everyone's favorite son from Krypton, Superman, is back in full force in next year's Man of Steel, which was showcased in a great session today which was part of the Warner Brothers panel in Hall H at San Diego's Comic-Con. The film, which is rebooting the storied franchise that arguably almost singlehandedly ushered in the success of comic book films to the silver screen, brings British actor Henry Cavill in to wear the famed tights this time around, following in the pressure filled red boots previously filled by Christopher Reeve, Brandon Routh, and even by Tom Welling as the young growing pained Kal-El on the television series Smallville. [...] |
SDCC 2012: ‘Silent Hill: Revelation’ Panel Posted: 14 Jul 2012 04:27 PM PDT One of the more under the radar movies to show up in Hall H at San Diego Comic Con had to be Silent Hill: Revelation 3D. It's not that the first movie was horrible, but I don't think anyone expected to see a sequel made. The Silent Hill panel gave attendees a chance to find out if they should get excited for the new movie not. The panel started off with two clips from the film. One featured the films heroine, Heather (Adelaide Clemens), facing off against a mannequin monster. The other clip featured Heather attempting to rescue Vincent (Game of Thrones star Kit Harrington) for a group of featureless nurses. [...] |
SDCC 2012: Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Django Unchained’ Panel Posted: 14 Jul 2012 01:25 PM PDT Django Unchained, the sixth film from famed director-by-numbers with an original twist of classic cinema wunderkind Quentin Tarantino, opened the Saturday festivities in Hall H today at San Diego Comic-Con. Highly anticipated, the film, which is Tarantino's nod to the seminal spaghetti western genre which found its peak in the 1960s but containing the urban spice and flavor he's most known for injecting into his productions, opens in theaters nationwide this Christmas. A restless crowd awaited the panel, some of whom had waited outside since the wee hours of the morning. Finally at about 11:30AM, the lights went down to thunderous and ear splitting applause. There is no question that this production, not only among the large contingent of the proudly geeked out, comic booked, graphic novel ink running through their veins crowd, but also among millions of movie goers as well, is one of the most anticipated releases of the 2012 movie year [...] |
SDCC 2012: DreamWorks Animation Confirms ‘Kung Fu Panda 3,’ ‘Madagascar’ Spinoff Posted: 14 Jul 2012 12:00 PM PDT Fans of DreamWorks Animation's Kung Fu Panda and Madagascar franchises will be happy to learn that new features from both are now confirmed to be on the way. During their panel at San Diego Comic-Con, the studio's CCO, Bill Damaschke, confirmed that Kung Fu Panda 3 was indeed on the way, though it wasn't announced when we might see the trilogy-maker. The 2008 original made $631.7 million worldwide, while its sequel, Kung Fu Panda 2, made $665.6 million, making the decision to roll again quite easy. [...] |
Charlie Hunnam & Rinko Kikuchi Are Battle Ready In Two New Images From ‘Pacific Rim’ Posted: 14 Jul 2012 11:00 AM PDT One of the few films that's not a sequel or based on a recognizable superhero is Guillermo del Toro's "giant robots versus giant aliens" film Pacific Rim. Up to today we had only seen a photo of Idris Elba in a military uniform and a Comic-Con exclusive poster. But as we get closer to the movie's SDCC panel, we are slowly getting more teases. Two very cool images of Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy) and Rinko Kikuchi (The Brothers Bloom) suited up and ready for battle have been released, and you can check them out below. [...] |
SDCC 2012: ‘The Venture Brothers’ Panel Posted: 14 Jul 2012 10:00 AM PDT The Venture Brothers came to San Diego Comic-Con and spoke to a packed house filled with some of the best cosplayers in all of fandom. All the fans in the crowd waited with baited breath for the announcement of when season five would premiere. Their anticipation was paid off when show creators Jackson Publick and Doc Hammer told them that they would get a Halloween special for this year, with new episodes starting in early 2013. The crowd was then treated to an animatics preview of the upcoming season. The preview had plenty of laughs and included shots of Sgt. Hatred with bitch tits, Doc Venture and Billy Quizboy doing a ventriloquist act, and the promise that Brock Sampson will be in the whole season. [...] |
Video: Meet The New Cast Members Of ‘Game Of Thrones’ Season 3 Posted: 14 Jul 2012 09:00 AM PDT Many new faces will be joining the cast of HBO's hit series, Game of Thrones, for its third season (which makes me quite nervous for the well-being of the familiar faces of the show), including Diana Rigg (The Avengers [1961], The Great Muppet Caper), as Olenna Tyrell, the Queen of Thorns, Mackenzie Crook (Pirates of the Caribbean, The Office) as Orell, and Thomas Brodie-Sangster (Love Actually, Nanny McPhee) as Jojen Reed. During the panel for Game of Thrones at this year's San Diego Comic-Con, a video was shown to introduce the 14 new actors joining the cast, as well as who from George R.R. Martin's books they'll be playing. [...] |
Posted: 14 Jul 2012 08:00 AM PDT Earlier this year at WonderCon, I was lucky to cover director Rian Johnson's panel for Looper, as I had already been a huge fan of his previous work (Brick & The Brothers Bloom). At that time, little had been known about the project and Johnson introduced the intriguing time-travel concept, as well as the amazing makeup work that would transform actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt into a younger version of Bruce Willis. So what updates have transpired on the film since March, now that its release is imminent? Moderator Ralph Garman (of Kevin Smith's SModcast Podcast Network) began the San Diego Comic-Con panel by introducing director Johnson, and actors Emily Blunt and Gordon-Levitt. [...] |
Posted: 14 Jul 2012 07:00 AM PDT The Screen Gems/Sony Panel concluded the day's festivities today in Hall H at San Diego's Comic-Con with a panel for Elysium, a science fiction yarn set in the distant future in which two classes of individuals, the rich and the poor, dwell on a man-made space station named after the title. In classic David vs. Goliath sensibilities, one man, an ex-con, is forced take on a mission that not only will save his life, but takes on the hierarchy of the elite that, if able to topple them, could bring the two separated worlds of the "haves" and "have nots" back together as one.
