Comic Review: Kirby Genesis: Silver Star #6 Posted: 18 Jul 2012 06:00 PM PDT Kirby Genesis: Silver Star #6 Written by Kurt Busiek Pencils by Mike Hawthorne Inks by John Lucas Colors by Dan Jackson Letters by Richard Starkings and Comicraft Cover by Aleksi Briclot Dynamite Entertainment Release Date: June 27, 2012 Cover Price: $3.99 In Kirby Genesis: Silver Star #6 there's a LOT going on. Unfortunately, I didn't like much of it, to be honest. While it was a good effort, I found myself SO lost in this comic, that I almost gave up reading it. But for you, dear readers, I stuck with it. Writer Kurt Busiek had me SO confused with this issue I don't know where to start. This comic is ALL over the map, it seems there's more than a handful of Silver Stars and a number of his villains (who are also all the same person), that I really had a problem knowing just who was who and who I should be routing for. There's also a little girl, that I THINK turns into a love interest in the end, but I honestly don't know. I'm afraid this comic falls victim to some VERY confusing storytelling. A narrative or re-cap paragraph would've helped immensely here [...] |
Comic Review: Star Wars: Dark Times: Out Of The Wilderness #5 Posted: 18 Jul 2012 05:00 PM PDT Star Wars Dark Times: Out Of The Wilderness #5 Written by Randy Stradley Art by Douglas Wheatley Colors by Dan Jackson Cover Art by Pablo Correa Dark Horse Comics Release Date: April 25, 2012 Cover Price: $3.50 "Dass Jennir is walking into a trap..." This opening line from Star Wars Dark Times: Out Of The Wilderness #5 highlights what I enjoy so much about the Star Wars Dark Times series. Each issue begins, and ends, on such bleak terms. And just when you think that things are looking up, writer Randy Stradley sweeps hope away from under your feet. There are so many developments in the overall story of Dark Times that sometimes it's hard to keep track. But overall, the creative team behind the work of this Star Wars series has done a brilliant job at not only capturing the mood of the period, but highlighting exactly why Obi-Wan Kenobi refers to it as the "Dark Times." Batman 202: Intermediate Reading For The Caped Crusader Posted: 18 Jul 2012 04:00 PM PDT On Friday, The Dark Knight Rises, the latest and last Batman film in Christopher Nolan's epic trilogy, will finally be upon us. So, it's natural for loads of sites to provide you with "5 Batman Comics To Get You Pumped For The Dark Knight Rises!" But where we differ is, we're taking a more scholarly approach to these Batman comics. We've already talked about The Evolution Of Batman In Popular Culture and given you Batman 101: A Beginner's Guide To The Dark Knight, which gave you several great places to start reading Batman comics that aren't heavily drenched in continuity and are some of the more simple stories that The Dark Knight has to offer. With Batman 202: Intermediate Reading For The Caped Crusader, however, we're taking a look at some more books that offer a little bit more than just a basic starting point. These books are all great, but they're also a little more complicated than I would suggest just starting off. This list is here to provide you with the next step into becoming a Batman scholar, and requires a little more of the reader [...] |
Sam Raimi Will No Longer Direct ‘World Of Warcraft’ Movie Adaptation Posted: 18 Jul 2012 03:00 PM PDT With Oz: The Great and Powerful set for a March 2013 release, World of Warcraft fans hoped that director Sam Raimi would be moving on to direct an adaptation of the massively popular MMORPG. But in the two years since it was announced that Raimi would be directing the film, there has been no solid developments, and things weren't looking good for the adaptation. Now a new interview confirms every World of Warcraft player's worst fears: Raimi is not directing the big screen adaptation, a film that has been stuck in development hell for a very long time. Movie Review: Katy Perry: Part of Me 3D Posted: 18 Jul 2012 02:00 PM PDT Katy Perry: Part of Me 3D Directed by Dan Cutforth, Jane Lipsitz Starring Katy Perry, Glen Ballard, Shannon Woodward, Russell Brand, Adele, Rihanna, Lady Gaga MTV Films | Paramount Pictures Rated PG | 97 Minutes Release Date: July 5, 2012 All right, here's the thing - I know I'm not supposed to like Katy Perry. I'm not supposed to like Lady GaGa either, but I do. Let me put this in more simplistic, geek-relative terms: Katy Perry is to The Avengers as Lady GaGa is to The Dark Knight - both pop stars are awesome for completely different reasons. GaGa's got her Little Monsters and Perry's got her Katy Kats, and yes - it's creepy for a 27-year-old bearded straight man to consider himself part of either of those fan communities - but that doesn't mean I can't appreciate the artistry and pageantry of pop music. Sometimes, I just want a little good old fashioned frivolity, and that's the escape Perry's music provides. I'm not ashamed to admit it - I really like Katy Perry. I dig her whole vibe, from the silly, catchy-as-hell pop songs to her blue hair and "Sexy Willy Wonka" fashion sense. Say what you will about America's candy-coated pop starlet, but you can't deny her success. Her 2010 album Teenage Dream spawned five number one singles — "California Gurls," "Teenage Dream," "Firework," "E.T.," and "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)." [...] |
Steven Spielberg’s Abraham Lincoln Biopic Gets An Official Release Date Posted: 18 Jul 2012 01:00 PM PDT In an announcement met by the shocked response of absolutely no one, Steven Spielberg's Abraham Lincoln biopic, Lincoln has been given an official release date right smack dab in the middle of awards season. It's been announced that the movie will hit select theaters on November 9, 2012, before expanding nationally on November 16th. The move is an interesting one because it puts Lincoln in an face-to-face battle with the monster that is sure to be the grand finale in the Twilight franchise, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2. Check That: Jessica Biel Will Not Be In ‘The Wolverine’ Posted: 18 Jul 2012 10:00 AM PDT Usually when an actor enters into negotiations, it's reported as if said actor has already landed the role. The reason for this is that, on most occasions, the negotiations between the two parties are merely a formality. This is not one of those cases. It was recently reported that Jessica Biel had entered into negotiations to star alongside Hugh Jackman in his X-Men Origins: Wolverine sequel, The Wolverine. But now comes word that talks between Biel and 20th Century Fox have broken down, and the actress will not be appearing in the movie after all. [...] |

Following the news that Amanda Plummer would be joining the cast of the film as the silent but deadly Wiress, comes news that three major roles have been cast. It's being reported that Sam Claflin (Snow White and the Huntsman) is in talks to join the cast as Finnick Odair, Melissa Leo (Red State, The Fighter) has been approached to play as Mags, and Tony Shalboub (Monk, Galaxy Quest) could play Beetee. Could We See Edgar Wright’s ‘Ant-Man’ In 2014? Posted: 18 Jul 2012 08:00 AM PDT The Ant-Man excitement escalated when Edgar Wright made a surprise appearance at the San Diego Comic-Con. During his panel he presented the test footage he shot for the film and to absolutely no surprise to anyone, nearly everyone in attendance cheered. So what's next for the Marvel hero who could change his size in a matter of moments? Well, getting the movie into production after Wright completes his work on The World's End, of course. [...] |
