Peter Jackson Talks With Warner Bros. To Turn ‘The Hobbit’ Into A Trilogy Posted: 24 Jul 2012 07:03 PM PDT There has been some speculation recently on whether or not Peter Jackson's The Hobbit could be turned into a trilogy. The classic Tolkien tale is currently on track to be released as two features, but the filmmakers are spearheading to change that and if it does happen, Jackson and the rest of the team could head back to New Zealand next summer for two months of additional shooting. Talks of a possible trilogy started earlier this month during Comic-Con weekend, where the director had a panel for the first film, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. The idea of adding a third entry was still very much in the early stages, but the fact that Jackson gave such intricate details about the possibility of adding a third chapter to The Hobbit film franchise gave many the impression that this was no joke [...] |
Edgar Wright To Direct Sci-Fi Flick ‘Collider’; J.J. Abrams To Produce Posted: 24 Jul 2012 06:00 PM PDT Edgar Wright's next movie is the long-awaited third film in the Blood and Ice Cream trilogy, The World's End, with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. After that it was looking more and more like he would finally get to direct Ant-Man for Marvel, but now a new project has come into play. It's been reported that Wright is set to direct Collider for Paramount Pictures, and that he'll co-write the script with Mark Protosevich. On top of that, the movie will be produced by J.J. Abrams and his Bad Robot Productions. [...] |
Watch Now: ‘Star Trek’ Star Patrick Stewart Carries The Olympic Torch Posted: 24 Jul 2012 05:02 PM PDT Star Trek: The Next Generation star Sir Patrick Stewart, who happens to just be awesome in general, carried the Olympic Torch on July 23, 2012, through parts of Croydon, South London. Watch video here below of Stewart carrying the torch on Day 66 of the relay, as well as talking about his experience as a torchbearer. The 72-year-old actor, who also appears in the X-Men films as Professor Xavier, said that "nothing compared" to his experience as Olympic torchbearer and mentioned remembering the London Olympics that took place after World War II [...] |
‘The Dark Knight Rises’ Star Christian Bale Visits Aurora Shooting Victims Posted: 24 Jul 2012 03:14 PM PDT The Dark Knight Rises star Christian Bale is reportedly visiting the victims today of the Aurora movie theater shooting, according to The Denver Post. According to Warner Bros., "Mr. Bale is there as himself, not representing Warner Brothers." Twelve people were killed and 59 others wounded early Friday after a gunman opened fire during a midnight screening of Bale's latest film, The Dark Knight Rises, at an Aurora, CO, movie theater [...] |
‘The Jeffersons’ Actor Sherman Hemsley Dead At 74 Posted: 24 Jul 2012 02:08 PM PDT Sherman Hemsley, best remembered for his dimunitive in size but gargantuan in moxie TV character George Jefferson on The Jeffersons, died today in El Paso, Texas. It is unclear at this moment the cause of death, though initial reports are citing natural causes. Hemsley was 74 years old. Born on February 1, 1938, in Philadelphia, Hemsley acted in local summer theater before landing the role that made him famous, successful dry cleaning tycoon George Jefferson. First appearing in 1973 on the sitcom All in the Family as the African-American neighbors of controversial character Archie Bunker, the Jefferson family eventually got their own spin-off show in 1975 called The Jeffersons, which showed how they were "movin' on up" in life. The show went become one of TV's all-time greatest and most successful sitcoms [...] |
Comic Review: Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Season 9 #10 Posted: 24 Jul 2012 01:30 PM PDT Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Season 9 #10 Story by Andrew Chambliss and Scott Allie Pencils by Cliff Richards Ink by Andy Owens Colors by Michelle Madsen Cover by Phil Noto Alternate Cover by Georges Jeanty with Dexter Vines and Michelle Madsen Created by Joss Whedon Dark Horse Comics Release Date: June 13, 2012 Cover Price: $3.99 Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Season 9 is all about the big existential questions interspersed with some brief action scenes and lovey bits thrown in. Joss Whedon is still the producer and occasional writer of his original creation, so all of those elements seem just as entertaining and challenging as ever. The Apart (Of Me) storyline has been no exception with Buffy The Vampire Slayer: Season 9 #10 rounding up the arc in an orderly fashion. There are no big explosions or revelations, but with a more internalized plot like this one, that would have just been rather tacky. Not to worry, there is stuff actually happening. Buffy-Bot (body of robot, brain o' Buffy) and Buffy-Not (body of Buffy, brain o' Robot) get in a tussle with the latest big bad, the rough slayer Simone, Spike's "bug army" shows up, Detective Dowling is upset over the loss of his partner turned zompire Cheung, Buffy makes a decision about her coffee shop gig, Spike and Buffy make some progress in their relationship etc. All that is rather important, as it sets up the next wave of Buffydom tales in a very natural manner [...] |
Christopher Nolan’s Heartfelt Farewell Letter To His Epic Batman Trilogy Posted: 24 Jul 2012 12:37 PM PDT This past weekend, audiences came in droves to see Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises, the final epic conclusion of The Dark Knight Trilogy. Having helmed three Batman films for the better part of seven years, Nolan has brought us a hero that we could relate too, but one that's grounded as well. Now, the filmmaker is sending a message to those who have been following his journey as a director of this grand trilogy. Nolan admits his hesitation to coming back to doing any of the sequels for Batman Begins even admitting that second sequels are rarely ever any good. But the director was willing to take the risk and helmed two more Batman films - The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises - which together have gone on to be one of the most successful film trilogies in history. Here's the full letter, you can find it in The Art and Making of The Dark Knight Trilogy book, which was released this week [...] |
Dean Devlin Offers Status Update On ‘Independence Day’ Sequel Posted: 24 Jul 2012 11:45 AM PDT If you stayed at home and watched TV during the 4th of July, there's no doubt that you probably came across Roland Emmerich's holiday sci-fi actioner Independence Day. Rumors of a sequel have always lingered but any news to update us on the subject has been scarce. While Dean Devlin (Flyboys, The Patriot) and Emmerich have been working on a script for the sequel for some time, they haven't been officially greenlight for production. So while anxious fans await the day the sequel begins filming, Delvin spoke to The Hollywood Reporter to address the status of the film and how long it would take to get the Independence Day sequel into production [...] |
Comic Review: The Bionic Man #10 Posted: 24 Jul 2012 11:00 AM PDT Bionic Man #10 Based on a story by Kevin Smith Script by Kevin Smith with Phil Hester Pencils by Jonathan Lau Colors by Ivan Nunes Letters by Simon Bowland Covers by Alex Ross & Jonathan Lau Dynamite Entertainment Release Date: July 11, 2012 Cover Price: $3.99 Bionic Man #10 is the epic conclusion to the first arc of the series!! And believe me, it sure lives up to the hype. Ten issues building up to this one and you are NOT gonna be disappointed at all. Writers Kevin Smith and Phil Hester bring everything full circle in this issue. Steve Austin faces off against the enemy he was destined to ever since issue one. While I won't go into spoilers, it's one hell of a knock-down drag-out fight. I really wish that this HAD been made into a movie, because seeing it on the big screen would be simply breathtaking. Like I said, Smith and Hester manage to bring everything full circle, and I mean EVERYTHING. At the end of the issue, all the storylines have been resolved, and they set up a new, surprising, status quo for Colonel Steve Austin. They send the book off in a brand new direction that should be, frankly, awesome. It's been one heck of a ride getting to this point, but I can only see this book getting better now that the origin story is done and out of the way [...] |
$3 MP3 Album Deal: Megadeth ‘Rust In Peace’ Posted: 24 Jul 2012 10:17 AM PDT This week, Megadeth's Rust In Peace is on sale in MP3 format for only $2.99. The 1990 album is, in my opinion, is Megadeth's best (beating out Peace Sells by a very thin margin), and contains some of their most popular songs, like "Holy Wars...The Punishment Due," and "Hanger 18," along with some of my favorites from the band, "Take No Prisoners," "Tornado Of Souls," and "Rust In Peace...Polaris." This album is sooooo damn good, please, do yourself a favor and cough up the three bucks, it's so worth it. Rust In Peace is also available on CD, and as a live concert DVD and Blu-ray. Browse all 100 albums on sale this month for only $5 each, as well as several albums on sale this week for only $2.99 [...] |
Russell Crowe Making His Directorial Debut With Biopic Of Comedian Bill Hicks Posted: 24 Jul 2012 08:18 AM PDT Bill Hicks was one of the greatest comedians who ever lived, but he was a lot more than that. Hicks was a writer, musician, philosopher, and an all-knowing soothsayer whose work on and off the stage remains even more relevant now than it did when he died from pancreatic cancer at the young age of 32 in February 1994. Hicks was fearless in his approach to finding humor in the topics that most people found too serious to be taken lightly: drugs, abortion, organized religion, the government, and war. If you listened to his classic bit about the first Iraq War in the early 90's (which Bill dubbed "the Persian Gulf Distraction"), you could swear he was talking about the recent Iraq War, right down to the name of the President... Bush. Hicks never desired to become a television or movie star like many of his peers in the stand-up world, preferring to hone his material on the stages of comedy clubs around the world and write novels and screenplays that were never realized. Bill Hicks may be gone from this mortal realm but his legacy will endure for generations to come, and Oscar-winning actor Russell Crowe is preparing to do his part [...] |
‘Despicable Me’ Minions To Get Their Own Spinoff Movie Posted: 24 Jul 2012 07:00 AM PDT After the success of Despicable Me, a sequel was an easy choice to make (watch the teaser trailer right here), which is currently set for release in July of next year. One of the most popular things about the movies is easily the Minions, those strangely loveable little Twinkie-shaped henchmen. Now comes word that those same little yellow creatures are, in fact, so popular, that they will now be getting their very own spinoff movie. [...] |
