$5 MP3 Album Deal: Chicago IX: Chicago’s Greatest Hits

Posted: 27 Jul 2012 08:48 PM PDT

Chicago's Greatest HIts

Chicago IX: Chicago's Greatest Hits, by the jazz-rock/light rock/pop/easy listening/brass heavy ensemble Chicago, is on sale for only $5 in MP3 format on Amazon right now.

Originally released in 1975, this greatest hits package covers the band's biggest singles and radio hits from the period of 1969-1975. Featuring the original lineup consisting of the triad of vocalists Robert Lamm (who also plays piano), Peter Cetera (who also plays bass), and the late, great Terry Kath (who played some pretty mean guitar and remains mercifully underrated to this day), this is a selection of 11 tracks that have stood the test of time as first stalwart AM radio hits and top 10 singles, which have firmly found a place as some of the all-time classic pop rock songs. The oddly named "25 or 6 to 4," "Saturday in the Park," "Beginnings," "Call on Me," "Make Me Smile," and the sappy yet played in probably every high school prom at some point in the early 1970s, "Colour My World," there isn't a clunker in the bunch for sure. It remains an excellent musical primer for those wanting to be introduced to this band who is still releasing albums and touring (in a slightly different incarnation currently) to this very day.

Watch Mary Poppins Defeat Lord Voldemort At The 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony

Lord Voldemort At The London 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony

We've already seen Queen Elizabeth II & James Bond Parachute Into The Olympics Opening Ceremony today, and soon after, Mary Poppins defeated several villains in British literature, like Harry Potter's Lord Voldemort.

During the "Bedtime Story" segment of Danny Boyle's 3-hour spectacular Opening Ceremony for the 2012 London Olympics, popular British literary baddies like Cruella De Vil (101 Dalmatians), Captain Hook (Peter Pan), the Child Catcher (Chitty Chitty Bang Bang), and the aforementioned He Who Must Not Be Named (although, oops, I did name him) invaded the dreams of sleeping boys and girls in hospital beds. Thankfully, the villains were ultimately defeated by Mary Poppins - actually, 30 of so of them, who come down on wires into Olympic Stadium, each holding the iconic Poppins umbrella.

Watch Queen Elizabeth II and James Bond Parachute Into The Olympics Opening Ceremony

Queen Elizabeth II made a spectacular entrance into Olympic Stadium at the Opening Ceremony for the London 2012 Olympics today when she parachuted out of a helicopter with James Bond.

No, not really, but yeah, kinda. You should watch for yourself in the video here below.

The Queen of England did star along with actor Daniel Craig as James Bond in a 3-minute film directed by Danny Boyle, who was the mastermind behind the Opening Ceremony for the 2012 Olympics. In the film, which is reportedly features the 86-year-old royal's first on-screen performance, James Bond meets Her Majesty at Buckingham Palace where the two boarded a helicopter headed for Olympic Stadium. On their journey, they passed by the city's popular landmarks, until finally hovering over the stadium, where they jump out wearing parachutes sporting the Union Jack [...]

$3 MP3 Album Deal: Guns N’ Roses ‘Appetite For Destruction’

Guns N' Roses Appetite For Destruction

This week, Guns N' Roses's Appetite For Destruction is on sale in MP3 format for only $2.99. The CD is currently $8.36.

This is the band's debut album, released in 1987, and it happens to be one of the greatest hard rock records of all time! You absolutely know the songs "Welcome To The Jungle" and "Sweet Child O' Mine" and possibly even "Paradise City," so there you go, justification that the three bucks is worth spending on this album - though, my word as a rock goddess should be enough. My favorites on this one (and watch out, I feel like naming all 12 songs): "Rocket Queen," "It's So Easy," "You're Crazy," "Out Ta Get Me," "Anything Goes" - all amazing. Seriously, own this.

Movie Review: The Watch

The Watch Poster

The Watch
Directed by Akiva Schaffer
Written by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg
Starring Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Jonah Hill, Richard Ayoade, Rosemarie DeWitt
20th Century Fox
Rated R | 98 Minutes
Release Date: July 27, 2012

Written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg and directed by Akiva Schaffer (Hot Rod), The Watch is a quasi-comedic, exceedingly raunchy remix of Ghostbusters, Men in Black, and Joe Cornish's Attack the Block.

In the small town of Glenview, Ohio, CostCo Manager Evan Trautwig (Ben Stiller) forms a neighborhood watch after a co-worker is violently murdered. Wearing a "No More Murders" t-shirt, Trautwig recruits Bob Finnerty (Vince Vaughn), an over-protective father who uses the watch as an excuse to spy on his teenage daughter's dating life.

Joining them are Franklin (Jonah Hill), a high school dropout with emotional issues who signs up after being rejected by the police department, and Jamarcus (Richard Ayoade), an awkward, sex-crazed young man looking to live out an Asian housewife fantasy.

The neighborhood watch patrols the suburbs of Ohio and keeps the streets safe from rambunctious skateboarding teenagers while attempting to crack the case of the CostCo killer. As you've no doubt seen (ad nauseam) from the trailers, the culprit is a nasty extraterrestrial with a knack for skinning its victims (yes, like the Predator). Now, with their powers combined, the watch must stop this otherworldly foe before it tears the suburbs limb-from-limb [...]

Creator-Owned Heroes #2 cover

Creator-Owned Heroes #2
Written by Steve Niles, Jimmy Palmiotti, Justin Gray
Art by Phil Noto, Kevin Mellon
Letters by Bill Tortolini
Image Comics
Release Date: July 4, 2012
Cover Price: $3.99

Creator-Owned Heroes is Image's new monthly series that highlights the original content of established comic book talent. More than "just a comic," it's a feature-packed magazine that celebrates creative independence. How appropriate that the second issue was released on the 4th of July. You definitely get your money's worth; this book is loaded with content with two ongoing comic series, interviews, editorials, and how-to features.

The comic book portion, which makes up about two-thirds of the book, continues the Triggergirl and American Muscle series that kicked off last month. American Muscle is a post-apocalyptic, zombie-ish story where human immune systems have completely stopped functioning. The comic follows a small group of survivors and their search for a safe, permanent place to start a new life. In the last issue, they made their way to Los Angeles only to discover that it has become a zombie-riddled wasteland that's falling into the Pacific Ocean [...]

$3 MP3 Album Deal: ‘This Is Spinal Tap’ Soundtrack

Posted: 27 Jul 2012 10:19 AM PDT

This Is Spinal Tap album

This week, This Is Spinal Tap, the soundtrack to the film with music by Spinal Tap, is on sale in MP3 format for only $2.99. The CD is currently $11.99. Both contain 2 bonus tracks.

If you've seen the movie (it's one of my favorites of all time), then you know how awesome the songs are, even if they are done by a mock heavy metal band formed by SNL comedians. Songs like "Heavy Duty," "Hell Hole," and "Tonight I'm Gonna Rock You Tonight," are pure metal awesomeness. Just listening to tunes like "Stonehenge," "Sex Farm," and "Big Bottom" will bring a smile on your face, remembering the scenes from the movie.

I've had this soundtrack on cassette since it came out and the songs are still in heavy rotation on my iPod. I can't say enough of how friggin' amazing this album is, so for $3, please, get this album now!!!

In Honor Of The 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony: Chariots Of Mordor

Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers orc with torch

The Opening Ceremony for the London 2012 Olympics begins tonight, and from what we've heard, it will be quite the spectacle. Over the last 70 days, the Olympic Torch has been carried through 1,000 cities throughout the UK by 8,000 torchbearers, including some famous names like Doctor Who's Matt Smith, Harry Potter's Rupert Grint, Absolutely Fabulous stars Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley, and Star Trek's Patrick Stewart.

Today, the Torch makes its final journey to Olympic Stadium for the Opening Ceremony where its flame will light the Cauldron there, signifying the start of the Games. It's something I've always look forward to watching, although ever since 2002, I've never thought of it the same way. Thanks to this little movie called Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers, when I see the Torch Relay, I think of the orc with the torch. You know what I'm talking about - that lone Uruk-hai running with the torch to blow up the drain at the Battle of Helm's Deep. Yeah, he's the ultimate torchbearer!

I searched YouTube for the clip from the movie to show you what I mean and found something even better - a video of the scene in slow-motion set to the music of Chariots of Fire, called Chariots Of Mordor. Spot on! Watch it here below [...]

Written by Mike Mignola and Christopher Golden
Art by Ben Stenbeck
Colors by Dave Stewart
Letters by Clem Roberts
Dark Horse Comics
Release Date: June 20, 2012
Cover Price: $3.50

I'm a big fan of the first two Baltimore miniseries that Dark Horse has released and I'm just as much of a fan of the first issue of the next entry in the series, Baltimore: Dr. Leskovar's Remedy. This is just a two-parter between larger minis, and this issue gives a good look at what the series is all about.

The basic premise of Baltimore is that during World War I, a plague broke out that caused an outbreak of vampirism. The rise of these new vampires awoke some older vampires who had been sleeping for a long time. One of these older vampires attacks a certain Lord Baltimore and his family. However, Baltimore survives and swears vengeance against the vampire who ruined his life. Now, Baltimore travels Europe, seemingly always one step behind the target of his revenge [...]
