Comic Review: Battle Beasts #1 Posted: 28 Jul 2012 06:12 PM PDT Battle Beasts #1 Written by Bobby Gurnow Art by Valerio Schiti Colors by Claudia SGC Letters by Shawn Lee Covers by Dan Brereton, Ulises Farinas, and Valerio Schiti & Claudia SGC IDW Publishing Release Date: July 11, 2012 Cover Price: $3.99 A comic book based on a toy line from the 1980s. Hmm. Who would've ever thought. Well, in Battle Beasts #1, IDW goes above and beyond to make a really good COMIC, not just another licensed book. They got some great talent, who put together a really cool story based on these little toys. Writer Bobby Gurnow tells a great story about an alien race of...well..beast in a story LOADED with all sorts of fantastic axes, swords, shields, maces, and other weapons. A long anticipated "call" that they've been waiting for takes them to Earth, where all Hell breaks loose. Hey, YOU try going about your daily business with a giant grizzly bear in golden armor breathing down your neck! As much as I kid, this is a GREAT, fun, action-packed comic book. What could be just another "alien invasion" story turns out to be something a little bit smarter than 95% of them that I've read before, and it's much better choreographed than any movie of this type that I've seen. It's certainly worth your time of you have even the slightest interest in the sci-fi genre [...] |

‘Milk’ Scribe Hired To Pen Script For J.J. Abrams Disaster Film ‘Earthquake’ Posted: 28 Jul 2012 04:11 PM PDT This is a writer and directing pairing I never thought I see coming, but it's an exciting pairing nonetheless. Deadline has reported that Dustin Lance Black (Milk and J. Edgar) will be writing the script for the J.J. Abrams-directed and Bryan Burk-produced disaster flick Earthquake. Yes, another earthquake-themed film, but the idea that Black is on board to pen the script could tell us where Abrams wants to take Earthquake. Black isn't well known for writing for action films. He is, however, a great writer for character-driven plots. His award-winning script for Milk is just one shining example [...] |

Posted: 28 Jul 2012 11:42 AM PDT Revival #1 Written by Tim Seeley Art by Mike Norton Image Comics Release Date: July 11, 2012 Cover Price: $3.99 It's not many comics that literally take you to another place when you open them up to read them, but this, is definitely one of them. You quickly forget where you are in the "real world" and are transported to a small town in frosty Wisconsin, where everything is not as quiet and peaceful as it seems from a bird's eye view. Writer Tim Seeley really hits his "suspense" stride in the writing of this book. We know he can write horror, but this book solidifies that he can do more. WAY more. I really hate to compare comics to other media, but this book has a really great Twin Peaks vibe to it. There's the main mystery, but every place you go, every corner you turn, and every character you meet, more and more mystery and plot twists are revealed. By the end of the book, there are several plot threads that you're interested in. Seeley weaves all of these together flawlessly and naturally, making for a great read [...] |

Watch Now: ‘Silent Hill: Revelation’ Trailer Posted: 28 Jul 2012 08:04 AM PDT Silent Hill: Revelation is just one of those films that went quietly into production. It's been six years since the release of the first Silent Hill movie, and now we are getting a first look at its sequel. Check out the trailer below. Plagued by nightmares of events that occurred six years ago, Heather Mason (Adelaide Clemens) must go back to Silent Hill to save her father and discover who she truly is. It may sound a bit existential, but when combined with some horror elements, it might be some fun to watch. Characters from the first film like Christopher De Silva (Sean Bean), Dahlia Gillespie (Deborah Kara Unger), and Pyramid Head are all coming back, while actor Kit Harrington, who plays Jon Snow on TV's Game Of Thrones, has been added to the cast this time around. Like most video game adaptations, there will be nods to the video game franchise that only fans will be able to recognize. The film is primarily based on the Silent Hill 3 video game [...] |
