$5 MP3 Album Deal: Pantera ‘The Best of Pantera’

Posted: 13 Aug 2012 07:10 PM PDT

Pantera - The Best of Pantera: Far Beyond the Great Southern Cowboys' Vulgar Hits!

This month Pantera's The Best of Pantera: Far Beyond the Great Southern Cowboys' Vulgar Hits! is available as part of Amazon's mammoth 1000 MP3s for $5 each deal.

It's hard to overstate Pantera's influence on the heavy metal landscape. Phil Anselmo's harsh, aggressive vocals bouncing on Dimebag Darrell's razor-sharp guitar licks all riding on bassist Rex Brown and drummer Vinnie Paul's impossibly heavy groove gave metal a much needed kick up the you-know-what. They originally began as a glam metal band (good luck finding those first four albums), but it was their work of the late '80s and early '90s that warrants your attention on The Best of Pantera: Far Beyond the Great Southern Cowboys' Vulgar Hits! including tracks such as "Cowboys From Hell," "Mouth For War," "5 Minutes Alone," and "Revolution Is My Name."

Browse all 1,000 albums on sale this month for only $5 each, as well as several albums on sale this week for only $2.99 each [...]

Alice Krige To Have Mysterious Role In ‘Thor: The Dark World’

Alice Krige Plays A Mysterious Role In Thor: The Dark World

To think that we are getting two movies from Marvel Studios again next year, and maybe three the year after, gives me the slight tingles. Iron Man 3 is on its way to completing its production, while Thor: The Dark World is scheduled to shoot sometime next month. The film has already cast Christopher Eccleston as Malekith The Accursed, the film's primary villain. Now it's time for director Alan Taylor to turn his attention to the supporting cast, and he is starting off in a pretty big way.

In what is sure to excite some Star Trek fans, Alice Krige has signed on for a mysterious role in Thor: The Dark World. The actress confirmed that she has a role in the film at the Star Trek convention this weekend in Las Vegas, but stopped short of saying who she would be playing. However, she did mention that her role would be relatively small and that she'd be wearing a fair amount of makeup that would make her unrecognizable to some. So it's probably safe to say that she won't be playing a human or any of the deities in Asgard [...]

Check Out The First Photo Of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone In ‘The Tomb’

The Tomb Header

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone are reuniting again for The Expendables 2, but if you're worried that you'll never get to see them share the same screen, then it's time to put that aside, because they'll be back for The Tomb. The film features Stallone as a man who designs heavily fortified prisons, only to be be wrongly put in one of his own. Schwarzenegger, a member of the prison, will help Stallone's character bail out. The Mikael Håfström-directed film also stars Jim Caviezel, Vincent D'Onofrio, Sam Neill, Vinnie Jones, Amy Ryan, and 50 Cent. So before you watch The Expendables 2 this weekend, be sure to check out the first photo from The Tomb. Click below to see a full version of the photo.

There's not a whole lot to get into about the photo itself, it is after all a teaser photo. Just Schwarzenegger and Stallone just hanging around in a prison. But the synopsis below gives some added anticipation to The Tomb, which does not have a release date at this time [...]

Nicolas Cage In For ‘The Expendables 3′; Eastwood, Snipes & Ford In Talks

Nicolas Cage Reportedly Cast For The Expendables 3

The Expendables 2 raised the bar by adding more classic action stars (Chuck Norris and Jean-Claude Van Damme) to the film series, and as the saying goes, nothing really beats the classics. So for The Expendables 3, fans shouldn't be surprised to see even more classic action superstars punch, kick, fight, and bomb their way through enemy forces.

Obviously with a sequel such as this one, the question of who would you like to see be added to the next installment will come up and producer Avi Lerner did throw out a couple of names that should excite fans of The Expendables franchise. Among the stars the producer mentioned were Nicolas Cage, Wesley Snipes, Harrison Ford, and Clint Eastwood. Quite a collection of names which should make for a very exciting sequel. In fact, Cage is reportedly signed on for the third film, while the other three are still in negotiations [...]

Comic Review: Gantz, Volume 23

Gantz Volume 23 Cover

Gantz, Volume 23
Written by Hiroya Oku
Art by Hiroya Oku
Dark Horse Comics
Release Date: June 20, 2012
Cover Price: $12.99

Gantz stands among my favorite anime series of all time. Having never read the manga, I assumed that I could take on the review of Gantz, Volume 23 and pick up the storyline with no issues. Rrrrright.

What originally drew me into the Gantz franchise was its unflinching exploration of cowardice. When faced with a situation of saving a stranger from certain death, would you act the part of a selfless hero or would you be paralyzed with self-preservation? Gantz creator Hiroya Oku's primary goal seems to be making his audience uncomfortable with his visuals and haunting premise. Gantz is notoriously violent. Bodies are pierced, ripped, pulverized, and shredded in every method imaginable. The extremely graphic violence and nudity are just window dressing for the story's unique and disquieting themes of inaction, selfishness, and cowardice.

The series began with Kurono and Kato dying while saving a stranger who had fallen on a subway track. After death, they were transported to an apartment with several other people and a black sphere, called Gantz, in the middle. The sphere informed them that it owned them and forced them to play its game in which they had to kill a superpowered alien. If they survived the mission, they could return to normal life until the next mission. Gantz presented the group with weapons, equipment, and suits that significantly enhance their physical strength and abilities. At the end of the missions, Gantz scored each survivor's performance. If they accumulated 100 points, they could either permanently return to normal life or revive a deceased teammate [...]

Gearing Up For ‘Borderlands 2′ September Launch

Posted: 13 Aug 2012 11:58 AM PDT

Borderlands 2

If you are a gamer who didn't play Borderlands you either have terrible friends, or hate having insane amounts of fun. Borderlands was a weird mix of space western, comedy, and RPG, with loot drops akin to a Diablo-type game. There are four playable characters, each with a unique style of play. This all added up to one unexpectedly awesome game.

Since its release in late October of 2009, Borderlands has sold over 4.5 million copies, on PC, Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and the Mac. In this writer's humble opinion, it might be one of the single most fun experiences you can have on any of those platforms.

So now that you are up to speed on all the awesome, it's time to talk Borderlands 2. Its launch date is September 18, 2012, and instead of a sleeper hit in-the-making, Borderlands 2 is officially a must-watch game. Expect it to be big [...]

The Geeks Of Doom Round Up 18: Eric Calderone and Zero Dark Thirty

The Geeks Of Doom Round Up 18: Eric Calderone and Zero Dark Thirty

The eighteenth episode of The Geeks Of Doom Round Up is here, and this week, Andy plays an unreal heavy metal version of some Daft Punk tunes as played by Eric Calderone aka Erock. Meanwhile, Greg puts on his tin foil hat and rants about the new trailer for Zero Dark Thirty, the movie about the Bin Laden assassination, directed by Kathryn Bigelow, and starrng Jessica Chastain.

Later in the show, we take a look at the announcement that Galaxy Quest director Dean Parisot will be helming the third Bill & Ted movie; and also at the rumors surrounding Ben Affleck possibly being groomed by Warner Brothers to be the director for a Justice League movie [...]

Comic Review: Usagi Yojimbo, Vol. 26

Dark Horse Comics: Usagi Yojimbo, Vol. 26

Usagi Yojimbo, Vol. 26: Traitors of The Earth
Created Written and Illustrated by Stan Sakai
Introduction by Walter Simonson

Assistant Editor: Brendan Wright
Design & Digital Production: Cary Grazzini
Publisher: Mike Richardson
Dark Horse Comics
Release Date: June 27, 2012
Cover Price: $16.99

Well, that's it. Zombies have officially taken over. First that Walking Dead Stuff, then the Marvel Zombies. Before I knew it they were skulking about the bridge of the USS Enterprise and then that Blackest Night thing, but if they can make it all the way into the pages of Usagi Yojimbo then where else is there to go? Eightball?

Seriously, though, for better or for worse, in spite of the kick-ass cover, the living dead have not infected Stan Sakai's Talking-Animals/Feudal-Era-Japan, his samurai rabbit heroes' morals do not get tested when he has to decide to hack off the head of a bitten loved one; in fact, it takes up a relatively small portion of this volume. As anyone who's been following this book for years will tell you, anything goes here. Usagi Yojimbo Volume 26 has zombies, hidden fortresses, assassination plots, dudes getting stabbed to death, water spirits, former allys seeking vengece, and an evil wizard that reminded me of a Skeksie from the Dark Crystal. So, yeah, it's not just 'Usagi Fights The Zombies' here. But, by the way, it is there. And it's awesome [...]
