$5 MP3 Album Deal: Playlist: The Very Best Of Electric Light Orchestra Posted: 16 Aug 2012 05:20 AM PDT This month, the Electric Light Orchestra compilation album Playlist: The Very Best Of Electric Light Orchestra is on sale for only $5 in MP3 format. This 15-song 2008 compilation brings together what I'd consider the essential hits from this working-class Birmingham rock combo led by frontman Jeff Lynne (who would later produce successful albums by The Traveling Wilburys, Brian Wilson, Tom Petty, and none other than The Beatles). ELO disrupted the drums/guitar/bass rock combo by introducing actual classical arrangements into their music. You can hear this predominantly on this best of album in songs like "Evil Woman," "Can't Get It Out Of My Head," "Do Ya," and "Livin' Thing." All the rock analysis aside, this is a great price for a must-have compilation, and if you don't currently have "Mr. Blue Sky" somewhere in your music collection, it's a travesty that must be corrected immediately. Browse all 1,000 albums on sale this month for only $5 each, as well as several albums on sale this week for only $2.99 each [...] |
Geek Gear: Back To The Future ‘This is Heavy’ Shirt Posted: 16 Aug 2012 04:50 AM PDT The $10 t-shirt deal of the day over at TeeFury today is a Back To The Future-themed shirt called "This is Heavy" by Putricide. The sale began at Teefury today, Thursday, August 16, 2012, at midnight EST, and will continue for 24 hours from then, and once it's over, it will not be sold on the site for $10 anymore, though it might continue into the next day for $13 (look for the After Hours bar at the top) [...] |
Posted: 15 Aug 2012 07:10 PM PDT Debris #1 Written by Kurtis J. Wiebe Art by Riley Rossmo Colors by Owen Gieni Letters by Ed Brisson Cover by Riley Rossmo Image Comics Release Date: July 25, 2012 Cover Price: $3.50 Riley Rossmo has seen the not too distant future and apparently, it's a mod, mod world. Everyone is running around in these minimalist Barbarella-type space age circa 1960's catsuit ensembles. Some even have capes like some fantasy Norwegian ski commercial and the entire village seems to favor tonal blue. The landscape is dystopian all right, but forgets Mad Max post urban warfare. These fabulous-looking people are in an arid desert planet being stalked by giant biomechanical animal-type creatures that look like medieval transformers called names like Umbras and Avios. Junk covers the landscape like a blanket (hence the title). Scraps of metal and whatever else is left are used in all sort of inventive ways contraption-wise. But, instead of looking like a junkyard, the colors by Owen Gieni add to the otherworldly quality of this mysterious landscape. Instead of shiny cyber metallic colors this is a world of dusty and dingy pastels that look worse for wear and keep themselves from looking too babyish. Color is its own character here, with even the umbras bleeding a vibrant shade of violet. Intrigued yet? [...] |
‘Looper’ International Trailer: Time Travel Assassinations Are Profitable Posted: 15 Aug 2012 06:08 PM PDT When the distant future collides with a future not too far from now, many things could happen. That idea hits home when Rian Johnson's time traveling thriller Looper hits theaters later this year. We've seen a couple of trailers before, and we got another trailer that focuses on the action of the film and the profitability of being a looper. In the trailer Joseph Gordon-Levitt's character explains how a criminal organization takes advantage of the illegal practice of time travel. By making use of time travel, this organization is able to send their targets back in time where agents called loopers are there to shoot, kill, and dispose. We also get to see how much these loopers earn for their kills and what they use their blood money for. Let's just say, they are living the high life. Things go swimmingly for Gordon-Levitt's character, until his next target is revealed to be his future-self. For obvious reasons, this situation makes it a lot harder to kill the target and understand why you must kill it [...] |
$5 MP3 Album Deal: Devo ‘Greatest Hits’ Posted: 15 Aug 2012 05:00 PM PDT As part of Amazon's monthly $5 MP3 album deals for August 2012, Devo's Greatest Hits is on sale for only $5. If you would like a physical copy of Devo's Greatest Hits, the CD is available for only $6.16. If you've never heard the song "Whip It," I'm afraid you might be dead (unless you've seen a Swiffer commercial recently). Devo - that funny band of robotic nerds in matching plastic hats and space suits - have been around since the late 1970s. The aforementioned best-known hit was released in 1980 on their third album, Freedom of Choice. Also on this Greatest Hits compilation are other priceless gems like "Girl U Want," "Jocko Homo," and their cover of the Rolling Stones' "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction." Devo's quirky new-wave sound holds up well decade after decade, making this $5 MP3 deal a sound investment in your future fun. Browse all 1,000 albums on sale this month for only $5 each, as well as several albums on sale this week for only $2.99 each [...] |
Universal Shifts Schedules For ’47 Ronin,’ ‘Kick-Ass 2,’ ‘Jurassic Park 3D’ Posted: 15 Aug 2012 04:15 PM PDT 2013 will bring us another year of incredible movies and Universal has announced a couple of release date changes for their upcoming titles: Identity Thief, Jurassic Park 3D, About Time, 47 Ronin, Kick-Ass 2, R.I.P.D.. Of course with every date change comes the question of the state of the movie itself. So while some of these release date shifts may come as a shock, others are not so surprising. Let's start of chronologically. Seth Gordon's comedy Identity Thief starring Jason Bateman and Melissa McCarthy will be released on February 8th, 2013. The Jurassic Park 3D release will open in theaters on Aprtil 5th, 2013, while Richard Curtis' romantic time-travel feature, About Time, starring Rachel MacAdams, has been set for a May 10, 2013 release [...] |
Posted: 15 Aug 2012 03:30 PM PDT Idolized #1 Written by David Schwartz Pencils by Micah Gunnell Colors by David Curiel Letters by Josh Reed Editor Vincent Hernandez Cover by Arthur Adams, Michael Schwartz and Joe Benitez Aspen Comics Release Date: August 8, 2012 Cover Price: $3.99 I'll be the first to admit, I didn't think that Aspen Comics would stick around long after the unfortunate passing of founder Michael Turner. But, they've done a good job keeping the fire burning and I was actually surprised at how much I liked Idolized #1!!! Writer David Schwartz does a FANTASTIC job writing this comic! I'm guessing that he watches a lot of reality TV, because to me, the dialogue, premise, and execution of the issue was almost perfect. And he knows how to combine it perfectly with the superhero genre. From start to finish this is a great comic. It's a perfect blend of reality and super heroics and a really fun read. It's got a great shock ending, that I honestly didn't see coming. There's an origin that takes up about a quarter of the book, and that's a little standard, but it read well and was entertaining. This book was a VERY pleasant surprise [...] |
‘Raiders Of The Lost Ark’ IMAX Trailer; AMC Theaters Hosting Indiana Jones Movie Marathon Posted: 15 Aug 2012 02:39 PM PDT To celebrate the Blu-ray release of the original three Indiana Jones films, Paramount Studios is releasing Raiders of the Lost Ark in IMAX theaters. Now to make the film's massive theatrical conversion official, we are getting a trailer for the IMAX release, as well as a nifty hand-drawn poster to celebrate the IMAX release. Check both of them out below [...] |
Posted: 15 Aug 2012 01:33 PM PDT Darksiders II Xbox 360 l PS3 l PC DEVELOPER: Vigil Games PUBLISHER: THQ RELEASE DATE: August 14, 2012 I have the great pleasure of offering a unique perspective on a video game for a select group of potential players. Usually when I review a game it's one that I'm familiar with and one that I've been anticipating for multiple years. In the case of Darksiders II, I went in almost completely blind. I never played the original Darksiders. I did play its demo when it was made available and was thoroughly neutral; I didn't hate it or anything, but had no intentions of playing the full game, either. Because of this, I had absolutely no knowledge whatsoever of Darksiders II, allowing me a chance to offer an opinion to those who never played the first but are thinking about checking out the sequel. ‘The Walking Dead’ May Get A Film Adaptation Posted: 15 Aug 2012 12:00 PM PDT When everybody gets captivated by a TV show, it's almost a certainty that they will be begging for a big screen adaptation of it. It's happened many times before and it's happening once more with The Walking Dead. The popularity of the hit AMC drama continues to grow and now that the show is going into its third season, fans want to see that happen. Bloody Disgusting is reporting that there are talks (and I use that word very lightly) of a film happening. The site reports that talks of a film adaptation are clearly "non-business conversations," which means that it's a long ways away from happening. Even if there is a feature film adaptation, there is the matter of finishing the television drama properly without making it look like the film was made to earn some extra cash. The Walking Dead has no end in sight, and with no scheduled end date, it's hard to tell when serious talks of adapting the show into a film would begin [...] |
‘Raiders Of The Lost Ark’ Restored For Short 70mm IMAX Theatrical Run Posted: 15 Aug 2012 11:00 AM PDT It's rare to see a classic film get re-released in major theater chains. But many studios are now commemorating the anniversary of the successful titles in their library by polishing the sound and picture quality and giving them a short theatrical release. Now with the upcoming release of the original three Indiana Jones movies on Blu-Ray this September, Paramount will be releasing Raiders of the Lost Ark in IMAX theaters from September 7 to the 13. ScreenCrush was the first to discover the news of the film's re-release in IMAX, but Paramount refused to comment on the subject. Still, ticketing sites like Fandango are already posting the film on their schedules for IMAX screens everywhere. Yes this includes the traditional 70mm IMAX screen as well as those fake ones as well. Considering that the film was never shot with 70mm cameras in the first place, this shouldn't bother the IMAX purists [...] |
Kristen Stewart Axed From ‘Snow White And The Huntsman’ Sequel; Huntsman To Get Spinoff Posted: 15 Aug 2012 10:00 AM PDT Kristen Stewart has been in the news for other reasons than promoting Snow White and the Huntsman and now her actions may be the reason Universal has decided not to bring the actress back for their planned sequel for Snow White and the Huntsman. Universal now plans to take their ideas for a Snow White and The Huntsman sequel and turn it into a spin-off focusing on just the Huntsman, played by Chris Hemsworth, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The trade reports that Rupert Sanders will most likely come back to direct the new film, but that Stewart has been dropped. Also, the film won't use the script that David Koepp wrote and that the writer is "being settled out of his rich contract." All this means that Universal is back to square one with the Snow White and the Huntsman sequel [...] |

Fox Request For Extension On Daredevil Property Denied; Rights Will Return To Marvel Posted: 15 Aug 2012 08:01 AM PDT After being the center of the superhero news for the better part of the past few weeks, it looks like we are at the final lap of the controlling film rights to Daredevil. Even though Fox loved the vision that director Joe Carnahan laid out, it wasn't enough for them to get the film into production before the October 10th deadline, which means that they are letting the deal expire and the rights will revert back to Marvel. Variety reports that Fox had turned in an extension request to keep the character, only to see that request be denied. Yesterday, Carnahan recently tweeted that he didn't expect to get the film into production any time soon and that his dreams of bringing his vision of Daredevil to life were pretty much dead. Last night, the director posted sizzle reel he created to pitch his vision of Daredevil to Fox [...] |
