‘Super’ and ‘Slither’ Director James Gunn In Talks For Marvel’s ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ Posted: 18 Aug 2012 03:00 PM PDT Among all of the reboots and sequels involving superhero properties being made these days, Marvel recently announced a brand new title based on the comic series Guardians of the Galaxy (with Ant Man also expected to be made official soon). Not wasting any time, Marvel Studios seem to have found their director of choice for the project, James Gunn. According to sources, Gunn has entered into negotiations to helm the movie, which is currently set for release on August 1, 2014. [...] |
Posted: 18 Aug 2012 01:28 PM PDT Back in June we told you about a very cool experiment National Geographic was doing along with the Arecibo Observatory, where they wanted to send your messages via Twitter out to space in response to The Wow! Signal on its 35th anniversary. As of August 15th, the exact anniversary of first receiving the signal, all messages---including over 20,000 tweets and a few videos from celebrities---were officially beamed out to space for whatever intelligent lifeforms that may be out there to hopefully one day pick up on. What The… Ariel From ‘The Little Mermaid’ Used To Sell Plastic Surgery In Venezuela Posted: 18 Aug 2012 11:36 AM PDT A strange advertisement has been found for a Venezuelan plastic surgery office using Ariel from the beloved Walt Disney animated hit, The Little Mermaid. The company, called Clinica Dempere, shows Ariel with a (much slimmer) Ursula, then swimming off to the surgery table before showing off her lovely new legs, as well as other new...assets. You can check out the ad below and share your thoughts. |
Crowdfunding Round-up: August 2012 Posted: 18 Aug 2012 08:01 AM PDT We're all geeks here. And really, what would we have to geek about if creative types didn't pour their souls into their work? These guys and gals take enormous and, sometimes, unappreciated risks to put their products into our Cheeto-salted mitts. One of the largest hurdles that indie creators face is finding the funds or the commercial interest to publish their works. Crowdfunding, one of the most inspiring uses of social media, seeks to mitigate independent publishing risks and costs. Sites such as Kickstarter and IndieGoGo give fans an opportunity to have a stake in up-and-coming projects. On crowdfunding sites you can find countless comics, movies, documentaries, and games with their creators just asking for a shot at getting idea off the ground. Typically, for a few bucks more than you might have paid otherwise, you get a copy of the product and the satisfaction of knowing that you are helping somebody get their foot in the door. The project owners set a pledge goal with various levels of giving. The more money you pledge, the more loot you get in return for a successful campaign. I've seen pledge rewards such as signed copies, a spot in the acknowledgements, custom sketches, production comic pages, and even including you as a character in the story [...] |
$4 MP3 Album Deal: All Over The World: The Very Best Of ELO Posted: 18 Aug 2012 06:30 AM PDT Earlier this week, our own Mr. Babyman heaped a lot of praise on the ELO compilation Playlist: The Very Best Of Electric Light Orchestra, which is on sale in MP3 format for only $5 through the end of the month. Now, Amazon is offering up another Electric Light Orchestra collection, All Over The World: The Very Best Of ELO, for only $3.99 through this weekend. A lot of the songs are duplicated on both albums, but today's deal has 20 tracks, including some of the selections from the Xanadu soundtrack (which I've been obsessed with since childhood, and therefore highly recommend, yes, seriously). Perhaps you think you don't know ELO, but once you hear this stuff, you'll recognize it: "Evil Woman," "Don't Bring Me Down," "Turn To Stone," "Strange Magic" - you know it. Browse all 1,000 albums on sale this month for only $5 each, as well as several albums on sale this week for only $2.99 each [...] |
